Unfortunately most people cannot afford the treatments and, like myself, have struggled their whole lives with depression, anxiety and add. A few wins and then losses. Up and down. Struggling to maintain even getting by. Loss of jobs and struggling businesses and finances. Difficult some days to accomplish basic things. And the predatory world doesn't seem to care at all. Today is a hard day. Overwhelmed is the word.

Just pointing out, people still joke about it though. It's hurtful and invalidating. It's as bad as saying, "I'm a retard" or "that's so gay". Why would people think it's ok to say, "I'm so ADD?" when they're not. I mean, I've even called people out on it and they say no, they don't have it.

I cried several times during this video... especially when he said his patient said "so it isnt my fault?" ..... I just recently found out i have add, but I had no idea there were so many.... I definitely felt like I am somewhere between classic and anxious add. I love learning about my brain and like he said.... it just kills me inside knowing how much I struggled and beat myself and cried as a child over these things that could've been fixed.. makes me wonder how much smarter I would've been now had I known. Because I had a horrible time in school. Just hurts my heart.

O.o O.o Plant-based is loaded with protein. Many of the record-breaking atheltes are plant-based/vegan. The longest living tribes are plant-based, and over 50% of their calories are carbs (latest science shows our brains developed from carbs, not carbs). Most of the Greek Gladiators were plant-based. Lol. Soil is getting worse and worse in most areas of the world these days for nutrients in food. Lol. At least he understands plant-based foods are powerful, as most people seem to hate much, if any, veggies, but it's sad to see that he makes the distinction. He's also against soy. The China Study is the largest study, and it shows people are plant-based. Inflammation helps create cancer, and soy fights cancer off. Soy has all the protein needed (but we need multiple sources of food anyways). Meat is inflammatory. The highest rates of osteoporosis are of milk drinkers. Drinking from cows is a relatively new thing in society. To drink milk when you're not a cow, and not even a baby. A lot of cancer, diabetes from saturated fat (the highest source is from dairy), etc. Our intestinal tract is longer than carnivores/omnivores. We have no fangs. No night vision, unlike true meat eaters. Cooking meat makes it carcinogenic in the air, and people are still very unhealthy from it. The mass world hunger, and mass deforestation it causes to feed these animals that are r*ped into the world, and tortured. Plant-based milk sells far better in several areas of the world. Vegan mockups are better in tastes, textures, nutrition, sustainability, ethics, and pricing. So, a handful of what he says is wrong. Plus, Big Pharma isn't so good, so I'll disagree with that, too. However, great stuff for the rest of the stuff.

Every teacher needs to see this video. For 5 years, I worked in a Elem. Catholic School and the students had to fit the cookie cutter. Boys are sometimes naturally antsy in their seats. It doesn't mean they need a drug. To watch this video and to see the different types of ADD, not one medication fits all. I cried when Dr. Amen discussed Brianne. It wasn't her fault and then she soared. As a father, it must have been hard to watch, but you were in the right field to help her. The story about the couple was fascinating. Their child must have been finally able to breathe and relax at home. The diet at the Salvation Army and the connection to the prison rate. These are all miracles. Thank you for sharing this video.

Such a wonderful presentation. My 9 year old daughter is now on medication for ADD, and my husband and I had not been fans of the idea of medication. We trusted in her Paediatrician's advice and expertise in this area, and our daughter's academic and other gains are outstanding. From last years literacy testing at 65% unmedicated, this year she achieved 99%. Her focus and attention has improved significantly, and all work tasks are being completed. She's happier and hasn't lost her appetite. Infact she's thriving! Her school can't believe the difference. 5mg of Ritalin for 4 hours of effect saw improvements, but 20mg slow release over 8 hours has been the game changer. She now loves learning and is doing great.

This is not a serious issue, it is ADD and ADHD, they have no diagnosis in labs and hospitals like physical diseases. You can diagnose yourself by measuring your symptoms with the symptoms criteria of ADHD and ADD, they're all 18 in total. You can have some of them and measure your issue's severity.

This video showed up in perfect timing and is possibly the best and most empowering video I've ever watched on the subject. I'm about to embark on the Keto diet with intermittent fasting and now know what foods to buy to cover my fat and protein intake - and knowing the difference between the different Omega 3's is incredibly helpful too. I have inattentive ADD, am over focused through C-PTSD and also have a high number of autistic traits. I've also began putting on weight after following a vegan diet which was filled with the wrong types of carbs and my body has become totally inflamed. I am hypersensitive to medications and went completely mental on SSRIs - twice. Losing my mind was possibly the scariest thing that ever happened to me - I didn't think I was ever coming back and so I'm very reluctant to take Ritalin or Adderol or anything else synthetic. It's such a relief to know what I need to do to get my life back on track. I'm 51. It's never too late. To anyone out there who has struggled their entire life, felt useless, misunderstood and like you're spinning your wheels and burying yourself deeper every time, I hear you. We've got this. It's not our fault.

I basically ate pasta, potatoes, and drank Mt. Dew for two decades. Never really at meat, even as a child, and was a vegetarian for 10 years. I NEEDED carbs. Would feel "out of sorts" and then would eat some mashed potatoes or rice and would feel better. Last year I stopped carbs and most sugars. I only ate almond butter, eggs, and a protein shake with blueberries and yogurt. One piece of whole grain toast everyday with a few dried apricots. I drank lots of water. EXERCISED every day. About 15 minutes of intense cardio a day. After 3 weeks of this I started taking St. John's Wort. On the third day of this it was like a switch had been turned. For the first time in my life I felt like nothing else was controlling me. I would pick up something and throw it away that had been sitting there for months. But with no effort or struggle to do so. I would get in my car and didn't feel COMPELLED to turn on crappy radio music or smoke a cigarette to focus my racing mind. I didn't fantasize or daydream anymore, well not obsessively. I didn't get lightheaded anymore. I slept 7 hours every night without waking up. My house was clean but with a sense of permanency and not that it will be trashed again in a couple of weeks and my mind buried underneath the rubble. I felt normal, clear, and light for the first time in my entire life. I WAS IN CONTROL. Previous to that for 40 years it was a struggle everyday. Everything had to end up in crisis because I couldn't deal with it whether it was a trashed house, utilities being turned off, being in debt, etc. etc. During this "normal" phase though it wasn't about me anymore. It was about things outside of myself and I was interacting with the world. I felt connected. If this had never happened I would not realize how screwed up I am. Throughout the day I would notice all the little things about the way I used to be and then it spanned out to my entire life. To being a little kid and not being able to sleep because my thoughts were racing. To my bedroom being trashed and all through my life my houses and apartments looking the same trashed way. Even this new awareness was not overwhelming or upsetting. It was literally like everything that was wrong with me was gone. No anxiety, no weighted feeling of just being me. Dealing with more than one person at a time wasn't overwhelming. Within days of this feeling "normal" I started planning a road trip and then actually did it. Sounds like no big deal but considering I hadn't traveled in over ten years and was just disappearing as a person in my house in solitude it was HUGE. It didn't feel like something artificial had been added. I felt like me just without all of the tics and flaws. So I had figured out the source of my problem and then cured it, so I thought. Then I guess I didn't replenish all of my vitamins and supplements. I went back to soda. Stopped the St. John's Wort. I went back to opiate pills and then a few months later I'm back in the struggle. Like a switch. I am trying to get back. I tried St. John's Wort again but it caused anxiety, I think maybe because I was still on the opiates. Obviously I didn't cure all of my symptoms and relapsed. I will figure it out though. Now I am nearly definitely sure it's ADD. At the time my "cure" was a complete accident. I was trying to deal with aging both in appearance and health, that's it. Turned out the supplements for that were also very beneficial for my brain. I read that St. John's Wort deals mainly with dopamine and noroepinephrine. Years ago I took Wellbutrin to quit smoking. After 7 days I quit and it was like I had never smoked. All my compulsions were gone. I didn't drink soda or eat crap. But I didn't have the money to pay for it as a non-prescription so I was only on it for a month and then eventually went back to smoking and the fog and the struggle. I believe Wellbutrin also deals with those two neurotransmitters. Can't be a coincidence that I felt so very different on both St. John's Wort and Wellbutrin, but in both cases I had cleared my body of carbs and drugs. I wonder though if I was just dealing with symptoms or comorbidity and without dealing with the ADD I just slipped back. But I swear that month where I cut out all of the sugars and THEN got on St. John's Wort it was like a switch turned on (or off). I was completely new. Never felt like it before or since. It lasted for about a month. But a month is pretty much the duration for me to stick with anything really. I have immediate problems with concentration but also have tried many new things but only stay with them for a month. When I was younger it lasted quite a bit longer but I would never "finish". Unfinished college. Unfinished learning to play the piano. Unfinished portraits in my drawing pad. Unfinished crossbow making. Unfinished books. A giant mountain of unachieved goals and the weight of the guilt bearing down on my thoughts. Anyway, it's both good and bad that I've learned so much about my issues lately. Good because I can "focus" on specifics. Bad because I worry and get a little scared that I won't be able to fix it. Now that I know what it feels like to be free it can get very upsetting thinking I will never get back to it. So now all my issues seem magnified. Things seem so dire. I think, just get up and exercise or just go back on that diet but I can't connect to the actions of doing it. I'm sitting there knowing what will dramatically help me, possibly save me, but separation is there. The knowing and the doing completely severed. It's like a membrane between me and life that I can't penetrate, sort of like in a dream where you swing as hard as you can but the punch won't connect. It's VERY frustrating and for me very shameful.

Dear T. Higgman I sense your frustration and the ever present wondering of when and where the answers & solutions for your health will ever become reality. I understand that this is a tough place to live at. When you have experienced the change, lived the improvements, and known the ‘light switch’ turning on inside, which was ‘supposed’ to have stayed on, but it eventually went dim again, and now you just can’t seem to find your way back to it again….. I know. I walk a similar path. Not necessarily the same health issues, but there have been decades of health struggles including foggy brain, the regular companion of tiredness, years of unfinished projects and being disorganized, because I either lost focus, lost motivation, lost inspiration or just plain got exhausted & could never seem to find the time and place to begin some of the projects again. I have not discounted that ADD could be a part of the package of my health challenges, but our health issues are often more complex than just one thing. My husband & I have 5 children who now range in age from 28 down to 16, so there were many years where my days and nights were filled with caring for them….but there was always, always the tiredness, even as a teen. My family doctor would run a battery of tests, only to find out that my health was actually incredible, according to the bloodwork, and nothing was apparently wrong! Good, yes…but frustrating as I desperately wanted answers and wanted to be normal & have normal energy levels which I knew that other moms had. Over the years I have also been battling ongoing (what I believe to be) systemic candidiasis, which affects energy levels and results in a foggy brain, amongst other things. I have changed my diet to try to be as healthy as possible, but can never seem to get back to the energy levels and mental clarity which I believe are possible. There is one time that stands out to me for great mental clarity, and that was after a week of a bad case of stomach flu…fever & vomiting, only liquids stayed down. By the end of the week, although I was very weak, and had slept a lot, my mental clarity was better than I had ever experienced. I could think a thought through to completion!! Not that I recommend that method!! My dr. has suggested anti-depressants over the years, him thinking my tiredness was depression....But I know that is not the answer. When I get out for daily walks or hikes, (year round, but I especially have to force myself to go in winter), my energy levels improve, mental clarity increases for a few hours, and my ‘batteries get charged’ so to speak, but they don’t stay charged for long enough! Because of these health challenges, I have, out of desperation, done a lot of reading & learning, hoping & praying about health issues. Many times I have asked the question ‘Why?’ ‘Why can’t I seem to get permanently better, to the place of increased energy, (which for most people is simply the normal energy level!), clear, focussed mind and the ability to be organized & complete what I begin?’ I used to linger too long in the thoughts of ‘What if I am always like this?…’ and have felt quite despondent in the past and even felt stupid, because when I read, I cannot remember much of what I read…UNLESS it is a subject I am really interested in. But I have lately realized that God has given me brief moments of what ‘normal’ can look like again. He has given me a taste of what my future can be when I find the right solutions, and these are to give me hope to persevere, and not to cause despair. It is my hope & prayer that you will not give up your search for the new and improved healthy version of you…and ….That you will do what it takes to get back there….Get adequate rest. (more important than we realize)….Get regular exercise….Learn to eat as healthy as you can within your budget…Perhaps try a gluten free, dairy free diet & see if you have food allergies or intolerances which REALLY affect our minds & energy levels..Learn all you can, and learn what supplements you may need & try them…also..within your budget! Don’t lose heart, take baby steps & do the next thing that you know you need to do to work towards a healthier version of you….while loving & accepting yourself as you are today. Wishing you well & praying for success and restored health for you!

Wow, this described me so much. I “fall in love” with a topic and I will obsess with it for awhile… months or a few years… and then suddenly, the obsession will wind down and I will have no interest. I discovered I have to ride the wave and learn as much as I can and be productive while I’m in the obsessive phase. Then I will usually have another topic that gets my fascination, and I try to learn as much as I can about that. Usually I will come back to something again after a break of a few years. When I am in between obsessions, it is very depressing not to be interested in something.

I wish that we could all get brain scans to check the type of ADD, but so many insurance companies would probably not cover it. I have dealt with depression & anxiety all of my life, in addition to being very talkative, sensitive with a short attention span & a feeling of being stuck & ruminating about past failures. I suspected that I had ADD & was finally diagnosed with ADHD in my 50's. I tried medication for ADHD, but it made my heart race. Now I know that we're all not meant for medication. I've dealt with my issues by over eating & gaining a lot of weight. Also, in recent years, clutter at home has piled up. Dr. Amen's videos & shows on PBS give me hope that diet, supplements & exercise can help reduce symptoms.

I left education after that year, I came back the following year and lasted a month (different school) took an office job for 8 months, went back to education and lasted one month (another different school), now I’m at another office job for three months and in the process of getting diagnosed. I love teaching. I can’t stand office jobs they’re so boring and I feel so lifeless. But with teaching, I get so overwhelmed so quickly which makes me quit and I did twice very impulsively with no job lined up. Very selfishly only thinking of myself and not the kids I left behind who needed me. Next year I’m determined to go back to my very first school!!!(which was the most supportive, there just hasn’t been a vacancy) Hopefully with I can pursue my career

@@ReligionAndMaterialismDebunked you can keep all your plant based nonsense. I’ve watched what it actually does to people when they become anemic and their hair is falling out from the lack of vital nutrients. Perhaps it’s time to take a gander at the hoax papers and see how easy it is to pass a bullshit study off to journals and have parrots act as if they’re facts. One study proves nothing anymore. Especially not with how every little thing is bought and agenda driven. Pro trans transition studies being a wonderful example of what goes plainly against known psychology. When you have adults facing six figure medical bills, even with insurance, it’s not hard to see why those “studies” exist. If anyone believes that humans are meant to only eat plants after eons of surviving on both plants and animals, you’re more than likely only helping the virtue signalers who want to make everyone else miserable. There’s a huge difference in eating processed meat and actual natural meat. Processed meat is where 99.9% of issues come from, aside from food borne illnesses.

:3 But at least he starts people off on natural supplements first before any Big Pharma stuff. Big Pharma is often loaded with bad bodily health effects, most bipolar people in the UK say they prefer being off lithium, several school shootings are tied to black-labelled so-called antidepressants (last year so-called antidepressants were debunked by peer-reviewed scientific studies, and on top of that, Big Pharma never even had studies to back their drugs up, apparently), financial costs, etc.

28 years old married with a 15 month old daughter. Just discovering I have ADD as my life and marriage has began to suffer as life gets busier. Had always heard of it of course but never believed it was me. Didn’t really believe in it personally through all the bad stigma it’s gotten. However desperate for help as an obvious type 1 classic add I began to seek out help and am just being diagnosed. Took a mild stimulant reluctantly and I can’t even begin to describe the excitement. It has been absolutely mind blowing and life altering. I wanted to hug my psychiatrist whom I was reluctant to see I now think I may owe the upturn in my life to. I wish I would’ve seaked help sooner. My life would not have progressively suffered in the way it has over the past few years. Not to mention High school would have been easier. Moral of the story I believe wholeheartedly ADD is real and after you hear someone describe the previous 20 years of your life to you down to a T you will too. I would love to get a scan like this.

It's a disability that can ruin peoples lives and needs to be taken seriously. Statements like this make it harder to get it taken seriously. If it's a power then why should there be treatments, medicine etc approved by the governments? Or why should people take it seriously and be considerate with mistakes and lower performance if it's actually a power? Mental health is misunderstood and disregarded enough already. What's your evidence for this statement? I haven't seen any yet, but a ton about the great harm. I also don't see how being brave would relate. If that's the case I can probably stop looking into it for myself. I haven't read anything about ADD resulting in any particularly good personality features. In fact it might be associated with low Conscientious Inhibition and high Negative Emotionality (source: Adult ADHD and emerging models of maladaptive personality: a meta-analytic review - BMC Psychiatry - 2021)

My oldest son was my 1st education on ADHD. As I fought (yes, I'm wired this way) w the physchiatrist n physcologist about his brain. The physcologist took into account, then tested. Results "pull your son out of public school n send him to a school who will challenge him at his level, he's a genius". Ah-HA! Then I argued he most certainly didn't have the H in that diagnosis. I made up this quote "if my son were anymore chilled out or relaxed he'd be in a comma"! He laughed then asked me to explain. Me: No behavior problems, no fixations on anything, no worries about school, no bouncing off the walls, in fact he's often found in his room reading 6 years ahead of classmates n basically the same in math. He's fascinated w cultures, history, manual of how things go together and often reads 10/12 adult non fiction books at the sametime bc he'll tell you he does get board, takes breaks but always finishes the books. He's an adult w a double PhD in philosophy n religious studies. A very expensive n worthless degree but I get him, inquiring mind. Today he codes and programs for GE.

That lasted a few months bc he to experienced bad really bad side effects. He just graduated from LSU engineering department a month ago. I believe there are different brains. The best video ever seen during my big question about my son ADD . Why the Neuro list does not do the SPectr to my kid to see his brain . Instead he answer to all my questions was your son has a neurotransmitter unbalance. So medication is the solution . He don’t explained which type of ADD my son has or even the correct diet . Since then I struggle among doctors to find the right Meds to my son . Until I will become his own psicólogo 👨‍⚕️ Thanks 🙏 Amén

In 1964, I was 11 yrs old in the 6th grade when my reading comprehension suddenly plummeted. Suddenly, I had to re-read what I’d just read, sometimes several times, to know and understand what I’d just read. I went from As and Bs to Bs and Cs in 7th grade. I had to really study to succeed in school. Back then, learning disabilities weren’t diagnosed. There was the “normal” group and the “slow” group. I definitely wasn’t “slow” enough to be in the slow group. Later, I’d be fired from two jobs for disorganization and procrastination. I’d earned an MBA, but still struggled despite an IQ of 132. At the age of 55, I self-diagnosed with ADD- Inattentive. And yes, I’ve had a Dr. prescribe Lexipro, which I didn’t take. Thank you for this, Dr.

Incredible. Our psych care is so broken right now. I met with a psychiatrist for about 40 minutes over zoom for my initial appt and answered some basic questions about my lack of concentration/focus. I guess that was sufficient enough to go ahead and prescribe a schedule 1 drug to stimulate a brain that she never even got a look at. Now we get on a 5 minute phone call each month so she can send in another script

I was diagnosed with add when I was young and since then I've tried different medications and pills and nothing seemed to help me. I procrastinated everything, I was always unmotivated and extremely lazy to the point where it took a toll on my physical health. In the last year or two alone I've gone from 230 to 280 pounds. I'm 21 and still living at home with my dad, not because I don't make enough money to move out but because I used to manage my money very poorly and totally disregarded bills. My cousin recently started taking vyvanse to treat add and suggested I try it to see if it has any affects on me and I figured I may as well try it and see how it affects me. After taking a 40mg pill of vyvanse it was like a fog had been cleared from my brain. I was suddenly motivated and energetic about everything. I've become much more social and self confident. My whole life socializing was a hard thing for me because I would always have too many thoughts running through my head that I'd get lost and unable to focus. It's also helped my physical health. I'm losing weight, my skin is much more clear and healthier looking, I eat much healthier now and cook much more. I'm overall happy with myself and comfortable with who I am as a person and my life is going to turn around dramatically because of vyvanse. I don't believe in miracles but this has been the closest thing to it. I feel as if my life has been saved.

But when I eat protein and fresh fruits and vegetables, I feel great. My brain works perfectly and so does my body. Im not allergic to wheat but I can see it should be extremely limited in my diet.

Sad when all these past events and circumstances start to click. Never having my homework in or just plain forgetting it, always asking for a lend of a pen, forget about assignments, saying things that were inappropriate or unsuitable, understanding a topic and a week later forgetting it again, low grades. Now its not being able to stick out a course I intended to do, procrastination, forgetting things for work, forgetting names, unable to multitask. This has all amounted to chronic anxiety and depression, even suicidal thoughts. Ive found loneliness and failing relationships to be a theme of my life - cant stand chitchat and humdrum dialogue, I would consider myself sensitive with a lot of depth and analysis on big topics. My friends find me too intimate and personal in topics, too curious about things, yet Im joking and playful a lot of the time too. Rote/academic/prescriptive learning was always a challenge. Ppl are often shocked by my choice of work considering my age and perceived intelligence which brings up self-esteem. My ex's often found me heavy going as I hate small talk and prefer things with depth, unfortunately truth being a priority of mine, my relationships therefor didnt last very long. Ever since I was young it always stunned me how kids/adults seemed content in just working, what I would consider, a soul destroying job 9 hours a day. They seemed ok with just doing the same god damn shit over and over every day and ADD sufferers loath routine and 'dry' types of work. We are outliers and a very select few seem to be able to really leverage this issue to their favour artistically but most seem to have pretty big issues with this. I also suffer of delayed sleep phase disorder which means I cant work jobs that start at a normal morning time and cant only start work later in the day. I believe ADD is only a bunch of side effects of a more core health issue. Im left handed, have a small head, skinny (cant gain weight), poop every 3rd/4th day or just irregular, excellent artist and musician, strange taste in women, I have an accent that doesnt really resemble my area, always had weird tastes in movies and music. Seems Im a hard case of 'strong neurodivergency'. As for heritability my mother is in fact worse than I am, head like a siv, forgets shes in traffic, forgets to go at green light, keys, projects, money, the house (which could be consider a shed!), plans, all one fucking mess. Shame one cant pick and mix ones genetic selection.

They (we) cannot afford multiple sessions (especially to weed out the careless docs that aren't as thorough as this guy) or the time off from their jobs or the expensive imaging or the drugs. I feel like you have to be pretty well off to get better....

I agree with the term ADD instead of ADHD, because what about the ADMHD, and the ADEHD, and the ADSD? All traits you have if you have ADD, but the question, what is your primary and what is your secondary. Usually the third and four are manageable. (Mental, Physical, Emotional, and Spontaneous)
