Imagine an actual bach enthusiast who knows nothing about PDQ coming across this video and being utterly confused

Fabulous! PDQ Bach is sooo underrated! Peter's music to Silent Running is a must-hear/must-see!

With the great man passing, I'm sadden to know this existed and I never heard/saw it! Please, dear internet stranger, can you explain this or offer a link??

@@jimt2349 Here is the link to the Silent Running soundtrack. I think it is so beautiful. and never got the praise it deserves. Doing comedy in music, as in standup, is also an underrated accomplishment: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIWpd6B-bZqsa6M

I have seen the Lasso D'Amore used in serious compositions. Jerry Goldsmith for instance used it in his scoring of Star Trek II the Wrath of Khan.

Ah yes, the Lasso d'Amore. I once saw the great Professor himself in a live performance of this, um, work.

I saw the Professor play it at El Camino College in Torrance, CA. He was upset because he had to use a plastic one.

Always better when you can play on period instruments, of course

In the original piece, the squeaky bell in the last movement was an airhorn. I guess they couldn't do that without hurting people's ears, but I did think it was funnier

There were some unforced errors, but his handling of the Lasso D'Amore was flawless, and sounded even better than Professor Pete's. Glad I watched.

How does one even do that? That looks so insanely difficult.

Oh yes! That was excellent! Years ago, I accompanied a friend who played the lasso part. I was originally supposed to play the lasso while she played piano, but I couldn't hit the high notes and she could. It was a blast!

I keep thinking that the key the lasso d'amore variation is played in depends on the pitch of the lasso d'amore. I curiously searched for sound hoses, but it doesn't seem like anybody sells them with any indication of pitch or even whether they are explicitly cut to certain pitches on the piano. How do they get hoses such as the one used here set to certain pitches of determining what length to cut is difficult?
