Why?
@billmorrigan386
@billmorrigan386 2 ай бұрын
@@DieTabbi Because of the brand name and especially the price tag. People care only about price tags. I wouldn't buy or use 15x magnification binoculars for terrestrial observations. It's gonna shake too much. The ones with image stabs are of course fine even at 20x, e.g. Canon. More than 50mm lenses are not needed for terrestrial viewing either. *Large lens binoculars are needed only for astronomy,* they also have to have an optimal exit pupil (around 7mm) size which means the lowest magnifications possible. Of course if the night is not dark enough or there's too much "light pollution"(almost everywhere nowadays), nothing is gonna help. Best binos for astronomy are 7x50, 12x70 and 10x70. They are needed for DSOs (deep sky objects like galaxies, nebulae, star clusters). Planets can be watched even from the city with a lot of light pollution. All you need is a sturdy tripod with fine adjustments (for tracking the planet manually) and a telescope with like 100x and at least 80mm lens but such a telescope is almost useless when it comes to DSOs, although buying a 40mm eyepiece (it will give the lowest magnification possible and the largest exit pupil to collect most of the light) remedies the situation a little bit. Especially useless for DSOs are the most expensive Cassagrains -- just too much magnification which results in a very small exit pupil. Disclaimer: Nikon binos are excellent as well as cameras. I myself use Nikon cameras and love them but I'm not brand loyal. I use binos mainly for astronomy. For terrestrial purposes 7x40 or 10x40 is enough. Of course a pair of binoculars with a stab and high magnification is worth it IMO if you need it but the field of view will be much, much smaller.

@@billmorrigan386 is it possible to handhold 12x binos for plane spotting?
@billmorrigan386
@billmorrigan386 12 күн бұрын
@@Kpaojd Yes, of course. That said, shake is above average at x12. It also depends on how steady you can hold binoculars. Longer (bigger) ones are easier to hold steady if you hold them close to the objective lens and lean the eyepieces against your eyes. However some people find it uncomfortable or difficult to hold heavier binoculars. I have the 12x70 Celestron and it's pretty steady when I hold them the way I just described. I guess I can even get away with 15x70 but it's gonna be a lot of shake anyway. You should try different magnifications by visiting some store. It's even possible to use x20 but the shake is very strong and horrible. Yet, you will still be able to see an airplane with very shaky/jerky viewing. So the question is how much shake we can tolerate. I say x15 is the upper limit but for a quick glance x20 may also work. So I don't recommend magnifications above x15 while x12 is relatively nice but it's all relative. Small shake is only at around x7 but that's not much of magnification. I also don't recommend zoom binoculars because the field of view (FOV) is terrible on them. Even zoomed out, they usually have 1.5-2 times smaller FOVs vs non-zoom binoculars. Yet, airplanes or helicopters are very small targets that don't require large FOVs. So a pairs of zoom binoculars might be a good option for watching flying planes. I would not recommend going past x20 though. Say, 8-20x50 or 8-20x40 would be nice. It means you can change magnification from x8 to x20. While they are superb for plane-spotting, FOVs are terrible on zoom binoculars. It means for most other purposes they will suck. People just buy them because their specs look cool: you can have any magnification you like. Folks forget or don't know that FOVs will suck on such binoculars. The ideal solution is stabilized optics like on Canon binoculars. The latter means the price will be 5-10 times higher. I'm afraid you won't see a lot of detail on flying planes with x12. Overall, x12 binoculars are an excellent choice for terrestrial viewing.
@billmorrigan386
@billmorrigan386 12 күн бұрын
@@DieTabbi Personally for plane-spotting I would buy something like a Celestron 15x70 or even 15-35x70 for a quick glance at a plane at much higher magnifications. That's because I can hold a much longer/bigger binocular steadier and because large magnifications are needed for flying planes while FOV doesn't matter. A good choice would also be 15x50 or 16x40 or something like that because 12x40 or 12x50 will yield less appealing viewing of planes/helicopters. Also note that non-zoom binoculars produce more detailed viewing. Also larger lens binoculars produce more detailed viewing (more resolution). For example, the 15-35x70 has such huge lenses that you won't loose any resolution. The only problem will be shake and loss of FOV due to excessive magnification and zoom respectively.

Nikon shot seems to be taken at a different time. Look at the lower floor of the house complex on the right. There seems to be something white covering the bottom of the windows, that isn't visible in all three of the other shots. If so, maybe those stairs to the left of the building, which people are pointing out, were illuminated from a different angle due to the different time of day, and/or more direct sunshine.
@billmorrigan386
@billmorrigan386 11 күн бұрын
You are spot on. Good point. Celestrons were used when the stairs were darker and the camera smudged them. Celestrons are not that bad. Actually the Celestron 15x70 would have outresolved slightly all 15x50 competitors (even $1000 binos) if the test had been fair. At 2:37 I can clearly see the stairs even on the 10x50. So stairs have different illumination for sure to justify the price of the Nikon and Vanguard. It's just people blow it all out of proportion. I mean if something is not $1000, it's a piece of sh..t. That's why it's even been shot on the iPhone. Some people do it even on purpose. However I did like this video and I gave it a like. It's common practice in ads to belittle or exaggerate slightly. I have no problem with it. I even expect it from all advertisements. This channel (like a shop) shows various equipment and brands and that's a huge plus. I hate it when somebody just respects Rolex, iPhone, Leica and Vinyl LP records. It's not just crazy. It's snobbish and it's utterly moronic!

well, if not a straight line, it was still longer than 6,5 km, use trigonometry to find that out

Greetings, I have a question for friends who are experienced in this field. As an amateur, I enjoy watching nature and the sky. To start, I was torn between Nikon Aculon 10x50 vs 12x50. Which one would you recommend and under what conditions?

Can't see any Fujinon binoculars in the comparison. Could you add them for a better understanding of the best ones?
