This ending is way different from what happens in the light novel. If I remember correctly, the other 3 heroes are shamed for their lack of skill during the spirit tortoise battle and the public loses faith in them. This makes it so the other 3 heroes run away and go into hiding. This leading to the beginning of all of their separate redemption arcs. I wonder how will they do the redemption arcs now with the way this season just ended?

I doubt after the shit show of s2 that we’ll see a s3. It was rushed for what I can see as no real reason , degraded animation quality over s1 and the pacing was all over the place. I don’t know how well received it was In Japan but if the sales are bad s3 won’t see the light of day.

I can understand why they changed the part in the Light Novel of Naofumi wanting Malty and the king executed but I don't understand why they changed what happened to the three heroes. In the Light Novel, those 3 heroes ended up being hated by everyone thanks to them trying to defeat the Spirit Tortoise especially when Ren got his whole party killed.

@@jon4661 then spoilers... . . ..... . . . . After fighting the phoenix, naofumi is kinda depressed after loss of Atla, which she was basically anti-rapthalia. They come to Faubrey, country where seven star heroes reside to ask who interfered in a battle, causing death of atla. On the meeting with the king, there's no king but some asshole called... Shit i do not remember. Naofumi party alongside queen and trash (trash is part of Faubrey family) are being ambushed, naofumi "loses" his shield, raphtalia gets captured and queen dies from aftermath. That begins redemption arc of Trash as wisest king of wisdom and staff hero.

The more I think about season 2, the more annoyed I get, as they cut out far too much stuff and seemed like they rushed it. Makes me want to learn animations to recreate season 2 myself properly. I've already made Naofumi and Raphtalia for games like VRchat, so it would be another good excuse to make the other characters.

The sad part is that I really like this series but with the amount of inconsistent adherence to their source material I feel like it won’t hold on much longer. I could see a season 3 coming out but beyond that unless they really pull shit together well I’m not sure how it will go. Just like season 1 they removed a lot of material but significantly less than the amount that was ignored here. Most animes that survive for a long time appear to last because of adherence to the source material with slight changes made to improve for the viewership of a larger audience. But a lot of animes simply pass by due to declining viewership, declining budget options within the studio, or hundreds of other possible conclusions. But seeing as this season is struggling to really grasp a consistent audience and audience interest I wouldn’t be surprised if the anime is turned down for future seasons or adaptions.

The whole season was trash. They took something good and tried to get a quick return on it. This is what happens when you change voice actors and have another studio do the bad animation. The old saying is "With haste makes waste" The anime ended after season one in my eyes. RIP Shield Hero.
