Peace: Overcoming Anxiety - Timothy Keller [Sermon]

Tim Keller sermons via Gospel in Life: A lot of us are cast down because we don't expect the attacks on our peace and joy that are inevitable. Much of the depression we experience is depression over our depression. We're sad that we're sad. We're surprised that we're surprised. We're upset that we're upset. Part of being upset is the anger, the guilt, and the frustration we experience as we say, "It's not supposed to be like this!" The Bible takes a positive but realistic view toward facing and overcoming the very real adversaries to inner peace.

21:04 “Lord whatever you do in response to this request is good. If I ask you for something which is in the wrong time and you don’t give it to me, I thank you for that. … if you give me the opposite of what I’m asking, I’m not gonna force joy, but I know that you are God who Knows what he is doing and I thank you for ordering things for my life. “

This is such an important sermon especially for American Christians. Because of the ultra individualistic culture that is America, people are taught to rely on themselves more than the group(accountability) so there are a lot of anxious and depressed people in America. God did not design us to be alone and individualistic.

Salvation is a covenant He will never let you go He made a lasting covenant with you. But because you have a free will you can willing break your covenant. Read Hebrews 6. Those who were in a covenant and broke it. You can also backslide and die without repentance. Christians can also decide not to forgive it is impossible for God to forgive you if you don't forgive. Paul in Scriptures warn us all the time to run the raise to overcome not to loose your Salvation. The letters to the churches in Revelation He warned the 'church' that they are falling away from Him. Don't ever sit back on your Salvation and misinterprete Grace. .

If you want me to work on the translation of your work into Spanish, Dr. Keller, it would be my pleasure. I never dreamed I’d find a Presbyterian minister in New York City with many conservative principles. I wish my son and daughter in law had found you while they lived there. My sister in law has a degree in journalism from El Salvador but lives in Spain and has done manual labor while there. She would, I think, happily polish my Spanish even though she does not speak or understand English. She lives in Vic, Catalonia, and goes to a church called Su Mejor Vida but they call her pastora. All four of her children are Christians born and raised in El Salvador.

Me and one of my brothers in Christ have both been dealing with some serious anxiety and this sermon has shown us both how to look at the BLESSER instead of the blessing. It was amazing to hear Tim Keller preach about how some churches orientate themselves against the World, the Flesh or the Devil but fail to group them all together. I'm happy to say I received a peice of wisdom that I feel will help me understand my community and fellow christians altogether as well as understand how I'm being prosecuted moment by moment in order to defend myself properly. Recently I've felt I have had the symptoms of sin in me, but in my self-reflections could not, for the life of me, find the roots of the problems. Truly, this was a great teaching and I feel one more step closer to saturating my life with the fruit of the spirit!
