Peacemakers: Horrors of War is a thematic board game in which you co-operate and attempt to bring peace. In the game, you are an adventurer seeking to stop conflicts between a colorful cast of animalfolk nations, who all have grievances with one another.
Like Spirit Island, this game packs a punch larger than just a typical board game and is deeper than it first appears as you try to quench the fires of war and the spirits behind them. Can you calm down the opposing forces enough but without the casualties along the way that would also derail your end objective in the first place? Because in this game, the ends do not justify the means.
Warning: it’s really good. But is it really good for you? Let’s talk.
All six scenarios in the game are designed to provide a different challenge each time you play. Peacemakers: Horrors of War can be played with up to four players or solo, and you can play the scenarios in any order with different players no matter which scenario you choose.
Peacemakers: Horrors of War is an evolution of Dawn of Peacemakers, which was released in 2018. Some of the changes in this design include:
• Stronger emphasis on theme, allowing you to fully become a force for peace.
• Characters with unique strengths which bring a new dimension to the gameplay.
• Faster set-up as well as the ability to play with different groups.
• Streamlined rules that are easier to learn, teach, and remember, without sacrificing any gameplay depth.
• Individual scenarios instead of a campaign, which provides more flexibility and varied experiences.

Thank you for the gameplay and review, Chris! I really appreciate it. 😊 Some goofs below. None of them should be too distracting to new viewers and you still give a really good idea on how the game plays.🙂 - 4:48, 15:37 - The tower (the motivation icon) simply gives 1 motivation if someone is on it (already accounted in the starting motivation), **not** 1 each round. The motivation is lost if the side has no longer units on the tower. It's not a constant +/- but rather a one time passive one. - 5:59 - During setup (and each refresh at the end of the adventurer phase), players get a **total** 4 cards divided equally among themselves, **not** 4 each. - 11:48 - Strategic Retreat can only be played on **nearby** units, ie. units you share the space with. - 12:12, 20:30 - The cards are drawn facedown and divided equally with all players without looking at them. This means you usually need to work harder and co-operate in order to get the right cards to right players. - 14:47 - The attack priority goes clockwise, starting with the space in front of the attacker. Here the archer would attack the macaw in front of it. Doesn't matter because both had 3 defence from your Encouraging Words card. - 19:15 - The order concerned about the circle macaws so the bottommost one (with a star shaped insignia) should not have moved forward. - 21:51, 22:04, 25:46 - Survey action (the eye) requires a **nearby** unit. You were not nearby (on the same space) to the army you surveyed. - 23:46 - Only the star macaws should have attacked as stated on the order card. - 24:14 - Only the circle ocelot should have moved as stated on the order card.

never heard of a board game that would be like.. this. sounds cool. 🧐 backing it. it aint.. expensive. its less than $100.

Thanks Chris for this Video! What do you think about the Complexity and the weight if the Game? The original Peacemakers had 2.93/5 on BGG and Spirit Island has 4.06/5, so a big gap here, where would you rate it’s weight?

Easy of rules? Much easier than SI, maybe like between 3-3.5

Thanks for the in-depth review. Very helpful. The game sounds solid, but only 6 scenarios? I’m concerned about replayability. So a pass for me.

You can think of this more like a more traditional game, like Pandemic, Ticket to Ride, or similar without any sort of campaign, but having the added benefit of being able to choose from 6 unique scenarios each time you play. It's not supposed to be a campaign game, but rather a game you can get to the table again and again with the same and different group of players. 😊 We have designed the game with high replay value in mind. Each scenario has built-in variety from the initial shuffling of the army order decks and the resource deck. This makes it so the situations during the game are always different as well as your available resources which you must use to resolve them. That being said, each scenario also includes one shared challenge (don't let anyone die!) and two unique challenges, which really make you look at the scenarios in a new light.
