"Peach Plum Pear" by Joanna Newsom (cover by vivian)

I love this song and I've always wanted to play it. I finally printed out the sheet music and learned it. Although the vocals are a little out of my range (I'm singing falsetto on a lot of this), I like this key a lot for this particular song. So try not to laugh too hard at my falsetto singing, lol! This is probably one of the hardest songs I'd ever had to play paired with vocals on keyboard due to the syncopations... a lot of skills from eurhytmics came in handy for this. :) I kept thinking, "how the hell does Joanna DO this?!" as I was learning it, lol!
I have heard plenty of interpretations of this song, but here is my take on it. I believe this is about a more shy, introverted girl getting attention from a guy who she thought would never notice her. While she is excited about this, she is also taken aback and worries about his intentions. Since she is introverted and very much an observer/analyzer, she realizes that she could very much be taken advantage of, and she reads many of the signs that could indicate this. However, being the hopeless romantic she is, she decides to trust him. Honestly, I think what happens is that she ends up letting him take control of her situation by pressuring her to have sex with him... and she gives in, trusting that he really loves her. But after he gets what he wants, he stops "caring" about her (even though he never really did to begin with). Even though she knew this was a possibility all along, she is still equally disappointed since she had put her faith into his interest in her, hoping he was truly interested in her as a person and romantic partner, not just a sexual interest... she hoped she was different from all the other girls he probably slept with. But she wasn't.

"..laugh too hard" at your singing? how? Even though you maybe pushed a bit on the accelerator :) I think this is graciously beautiful and the vocals are definitely 'less childish' than the original (that someone could find somehow.. questionable :D in fact this is not my favourite song by miss Newsom to be honest). In conclusion an impeccable performance!! Thumbs up!
