@manifestgtr
@manifestgtr 4 ай бұрын
These rainbow beads are where it’s at for attractor/searching patterns. I orient them in specific ways depending on what I’m trying to accomplish…a baitfish imitation might get dark on the top, light in the bottom. I like to keep the amber/orange on top for thin mints simply because it looks awesome and inspires confidence (which is 50% of the battle). A rainbow bead adds a perfect accent to something like a hare’s ear or a black woolly bugger. It’s obviously not going to work for every situation (sometimes they want a more subtle nymph or a straight black bugger), but it’s good to have a few of them kicking around when you know you’re gonna be scouting.

Sometimes I find that if you bend the front of lead wire parallel to the shank it will fit up under the bead to help keep it in place. Or if there is a slot in the bead, you can pull the thread into the slot and then wrap it (it will spin the bead) inside the bead and creating a thread stop; when the bead stops spinning easily, you can move the thread out onto the shank and then do the lead wire per usual.

That is exactly what I do now (assuming I'm thinking the same thing you described). @@WhiteDogTrailCompany no, hold the end of the dubbing noodle between your finger n thumb pinching it with the thread and wind it on. The dubbing noodle will twist around the thread getting tighter with each wrap. It won’t get loose on your thread. Kind a like wrapping a piece of chenille .

I’m really enjoying your channel and hope it goes from strength to strength. I’m looking forward to tying some of these nymphs to try out on my local river. One question: do you have a tip for identifying the flies you have tied that are heavier/ lighter when they are in your box? Or are you just super organised?
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 2 жыл бұрын
Ah... good question! I do keep my fly box fairly organized. I use rows in my fly box for certain flies and put my heavier flies toward the top and lighter flies toward the bottom. I have 12 flies in a row. It is easy to tell when I use different size beads but if I use the same size bead and varying levels of lead I'll actually pinch the fly to see how much lead I can feel in it if I don't know exactly.

Great video your content is amazing. I cannot explain how much you have helped me as a beginner fly fisher/euro nympher/fly tyier. How often do you change flies when you are out euro nymphimg?
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany Жыл бұрын
Thank you and I'm glad you're learning a lot! If I'm catching fish I'm probably not changing. Most of the time I change it's because I'm figuring out the right weight of flies for the water or I'm not getting bit on one or both flies. Once I dial in on flies that are working well I'll stick with them.

Thanks for sharing your video on the ice dub nymph. However please do a video explaining the length of euro nymph leaders. With details of where the fly line extends in your rod or on the real during euro nymphing. Does fly line hang out the end of the rod or does it stay on the real while nymphing. I have heard both?? Some say your fly line never leaves the real and some say it extends slightly out of your last guide. And however it is could you explain the length of the leader. Thank you

Hi Todd... Have you seen my Euro Nymphing Series? I go through it in detail. At the end of Volume 1 I go through using a fly line versus a mono rig and in Volume 2 I go into detail on my Euro Nymphing Leader Setup and Micro Leaders. Here is the play list of the Euro Nymphing Series: kzbin.info/aero/PLuLwf7ym7i7bre38GWqk0pXZggydq3Z5m Here is the short version. If you use a fly line specific to Euro Nymphing then you typically have some line out of the tip of the fly rod or maybe in the guides of the rod depending on how far away you're fishing (length of the cast). Many people do not want to buy a Euro Nymphing fly line... so they us a mono rig. If you're using a mono rig that can be attached to a normal fly line and you never want a normal fly line off the reel when Euro Nymphing... it is too heavy and causes many problems. I would watch Volumes 1 and 2 to start and that will really help you! Then watch the rest of the series as there is a ton of great information that will help you be successful!

@@WhiteDogTrailCompany Hi there. Thanks for getting back to me. Yes I have went through the whole entire series. However I just did not quite understand where the Fly line ends and where the mono takes over. I wasn’t sure if the fly line should extend out past the tip of the rod or should stay fully on the real while nymphing. I think after watching several videos?? The Fly line should always stay on the real and everything going through your guides should be mono until you reach your actual leader with the Sighter. When I think about it it seems that would give you the most sensitivity and the least amount of sag or slack line between the Rod and the Fly’s. Thank you again for getting back and if I’m on the right track please let me know. I appreciate all of your videos.

Great video - can we use peacock herl instead of dubbing?
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 3 жыл бұрын
Sure! That's the beauty of fly tying! You can do anything you want! 🙂 Peacock Herl is a little delicate so if you use it be sure to use some sort of ribbing and counter wrap it (opposite direction as the Herl) so that it helps reinforce the Herl and you have less chance of the fly completely unraveling on you... If you use Peacock Herl and don't wrap something afterwards it will definitely unravel on you eventually and probably after one fish.

I would avoid pheasant tail as tailing material. It breaks off too easily. Even when I tie pheasant tail-bodied flies where a tailing from the body material would be simple, I tie in wood duck flank. It better matches the natural and survives more fish.

Do you ever use slotted beads ?
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 2 жыл бұрын
Yes.. I've tried them but honestly because I use lead in my flies the countersunk beads work really well when you push the lead up into the bead. So I've never really found a need for the slotted beads for the way I tie my flies. I do have some but almost never use them.

Absolutely! The great thing about nymphing is that you don't have to figure out what is hatching and match it. If your fly resembles nymphs that live in those waters they'll work year round!

How is that nymph different than a frenchie?
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 2 жыл бұрын
To be honest... a lot of euro flies tend to be similar in nature. Change some materials or colors and you end up with a different fly. I actually stopped tying the frenchie for the most part and tie these instead. A frenchie is a pheasant tail body with a small dubbed hot spot. A frenchie will likley have a thinner body and less flash than this fly. Because this fly is dubbed for the whole body it tends to be a bit "buggier" and will provide more flash because of the material. The frenchie, tied with the same bead as this, may sink a little better because of the narrower and less buggy body. In the end they both work :)
