PEAK Atlas LCR45 LCR Inductance Meter Review.

This is a review of a cool little meter I bought a short while ago. Several viewers have inquired about it, so I thought I would do a short video about it, and a follow up on the Kaiweets multimeter I reviewed a while ago. Both have been great tools and make testing and component selection easier!
One thing I forgot to add, it measure low ohm resistors and low resistance circuits very accurately too!
I did want to add a correction a viewer noted, this model doesn't measure capacitor ESR, it will measure the inductance and a couple of other things about them. You can read more here before you buy: www.peakelec.c...

Re discharging capacitors. Earlier this year I got some JCCON brand caps from Ali for a power supply board. After testing the finished board, it sat there for around a month before I started doing something with it. I placed it on my bench top next to a metal key chain and at some point, I pushed it against the key chain and got a massive spark as it shorted out. Aside from the scare, I thought they must be pretty decent caps to hold a charge that long.

I got the Peak Atlas "Duo" (DCA Pro+LCR45) with the plastic case, I never use them yet but those UK made tools have great reviews and good supports.

I use a DER DE-5000 LCR meter and find it really good.

Good meters from China are great for hobbyists because of their low cost & they generally are accurate. Industry uses Fluke to make batch calibration & certification easier as they are standardized in industrial usage. I have a Kaiweets KM601 that generally work well at home. Once in awhile it does not boot properly & I just have to restart it. It is very accurate, but this is the kind of meter that you should not measure high voltage with. The circuit board layout & protection is better on the Fluke, but most homeowners do not measure high voltage. My workplace uses Fluke, but while knowing the limitations, a good meter from China is OK for home.

Nice review but I don’t think this one measures ESR for that you’d need the Peak ESR70 which I use. I have a couple of Peak meters and they aren’t cheap but are accurate and work well (unlike the Chinese junk meters I had before).

I stand corrected. You are right this one doesn't measure ESR. It does measure impedance, admittance and mag/phase of caps.

It is not wise to short out capacitors to discharge them,it could cause some damage.I use a 8ohm 5 watt resistor to discharge.
