useful review - seems like you do a bit (or a lot) of photography - would be good to get your thoughts on it from a photographer's perspective if that's you. Also, for photography, it seems weird to always have to run the pack in the expanded mode as it doesn't look quite right aesthetically with the expansion part unzipped. Thoughts?

You’re the first person to give a proper review of this pack in regards to size, figment etc. The way you described it as being contoured to be slimmer is accurate. Everyone else makes it sound like it’s the 45L that’s been shrunk when in reality, it’s just been slimmed slightly in a few key areas.

@@GoingAwesomePlaces you nailed it. I have just about all the bags from peak and been using the 45L as my go to camera bag since it came out. Just picked up the 30L and yeah, sucks the camera cubes are too tall for it without expanding from that low profile that made me buy it so I picked up a Nomatic large camera cube to use instead. Measures at 5.5” in height so it fits nicely without having to sacrifice the slimness of the 30L.

This video is incredibly helpful. I love that you compare it not only to the 45L Travel Bag but also the 30L Everyday Bag (which I already own). Made me realize that for me the 45L makes way more sense to complement what I already own.

I like this bag, it’s perfect for my travel needs and sometimes going to the office with my large HP Probook (15,9“) and other work nic nacs. I like the side access on other PD backpacks for daily carry, but for this case I only need 15 or 20 liters. The Everyday Backpack is for me not weatherproof enough, I prefer the Backpack Zip. Thanks, I was looking at the 30L because I am short and after seeing the comparison you made, I am sticking with my 45L. I use the 45L as my cary-on travel bag at 35L with compression snaps that makes it 30L. I value the front pockets of the 45L that is lost in the 30L.

Great video, I didn't even know the smaller one had this many things missing. I wanted the 30L because I don't think I need as big a backpack as the 45L, but when I saw it in the store I realised you can't put the camera cube in it without using the expansion zip. No side access is the biggest dealbreaker here though. I wonder if they'll make a slightly smaller set of camera cubes for smaller cameras.

Great review, the best one around I think! One thing that would solve my mine gripe with 30L would be slightly less tall packing cube (so we can use backpack in compact mode) - I wonder if other companies make something that would fit this backpack… Also, if the laptop compartment had external access then they could move the main zip to the outer side and then it would give us access to those small zip locked pockets inside. All over strange choices that I'm sure will be solved in v2.

I feel like the 30L is a good alternative to the Everyday Backpack. I really like the full opening design of the travel backpack rather than the side only access of the Everyday Backpack. If I didn’t already own a 30L Everyday because I got it long before the Travel Backpack existed, I would’ve gotten the Travel. The Everyday looks a little nicer, and the side access is convenient when you have smaller cameras, but for larger gear it’s a little annoying. Especially since after getting warrantied to the V2, the side access flaps don’t fold all the way back anymore.

I have the 45L Travel and the 30L Everyday Zip. The lack of side access is a deal breaker for me. I have travelled with the 45L and used it as a daypack. But I find that it was way too big and heavy for me for that purpose. I'm only 5'2" so it looks ridiculous on me as a daypack. I think I'll skip this version and will use my everyday zip for daypack while traveling and use a normal suitcase when I go on longer trips. I carry a lot of tech and their storages to the office every day. Do you think the 45L is too big for edc or will the 30L suffice? I read that the 45L can compress to a tighter form in 30L so that seems like a better longterm investment for both travel and work?
@GoingAwesomePlaces Жыл бұрын
Yeah you’re right, the 45L can compress it down with those button snaps. Having used both for work trips where I carried a lot of camera gear, I do still like that the 45L has the flexibility to carry a big load so it makes it good for the travel scenario while also being decent for an EDC. I will say though that the 45L can appear to be quite large on the back depending on your size so as an EDC it can appear bigger than a backpack that’s slimmer and more sleek. That said, if you do carry a lot of stuff on the daily, it could be a good balance of things.

Thanks for watching! Yeah, I know the travel backpacks has always been a bit too large for some. The camera cubes themselves are quite ridged and add some weight so it might be too much for your uses. Food for thought though the 30L Everyday Backpack is 2.11kg with dividers, and the 30L Travel Backpack is 1.44kg (no camera cube weight included though). Even the 20L Everyday Backpack is 2.01kg with dividers BUT....camera slots are all built in and it's a slimmer fit so that might be better for you in terms of a city exploration bag.

BTW, what is 5.11/5.5 in cm?
@GoingAwesomePlaces3 жыл бұрын
Hey Sacher! If they're earbuds you'll have no issues but if you have full-sized cans, unless they're relatively thin and can fold in, you won't be able to put them in unfortunately and that's where I really struggled with the 45L vs the 30L. While I didn't always fully maximize the front compartment, it still had its uses for smaller "accessories" like that. For your question about partial back opening, I'd say you're pretty safe with about half an opening. That said, it really depends on how much weight you have on the front pocket because if there's something heavy, it could inadvertently pull the full backpack down. I've tested wearing the backpack on my front and just trying to access things from the top of the main compartment and you can definitely open it up a bit just to grab something at the top but I have to be careful.

That’s a good question. I’ve actually been a bit lazy with a bunch of those dirt marks on the bag and needs a better wipe. The bag’s been on a lot of ground over the years and those marks you see aren’t scratches but mainly dirt marks. Warm soapy water will clean that off. I’ve had my backpack for about 4-5 years now??

Hey! great video. Do you know if a kindle/ipad mini would fit in that front quick access pocket? Thanks!
@GoingAwesomePlaces2 жыл бұрын
Hey, if you mean the 45L backpack, that would be a no. It's not deep enough for a kindle/mini. For the 30L, I just did a quick measurement for you and with a ruler, I'm seeing just over 6.5 inches. The iPad mini is 5.3 inches wide so that should work (depending on case/sleeve you have in it + other things you pack in that front pocket).

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Yes, the 30L. Looks like it might be a good travel contender for me then! Oh my poor wallet.

The 30L Travel Backpack is 27-33L, not 35L.

You’re right! I got the wrong info before the release but made sure I addressed it in the descriptions. Thanks for the bump on this.

Carrying that much stuff, are you finding you are developing back problems?
@GoingAwesomePlaces2 жыл бұрын
Great question! I think if I were to put that much weight on my shoulders consistently, it'd affect me physically but luckily it's been mostly in shorter spurts and interchanging with Peak Design's Slings for day-use has been really handy! With the 45L, I always combined it with either the 5L or 6L Sling.

I was expecting so much more about this new 30L model. 45L is definitely better. The only thing that pisses me off is how bulky 45L looks like (in 40L way, expanded is awful) and doesn’t keep stand by itself, which is also quite annoying.

You won't add tripod in side pocket when backpack is full. Same with tech pouch etc. Do tests with full pouches, full backpack.

Can't really travel with the 30L everyday. I would never travel only with the everyday since access is super limited . You can travel with the travel bag though 🙂 i know that sounds funny but it's true.

So less features, less pockets, no hipstrap, less volume, less comfortable shoulder straps… the 45l need so little to be perfect, but they created this joke instead
