I've owned it since they sent them out from their kickstarter. 4 or 5 years by now? I lived out of it for 9 months during covid being "stuck" in Thailand during 2020. No complaints about it. Its held up with issues with zippers, not even many scratches. The little leather logo got wet a few times but its still fine. I had like 7 pairs of short and 7 button up shirts, 1 pair of long pants, 1 pair of shoes, 1 pair of flip flops, 7 pairs of boxer briefs and 7 under shirts (Thailand is hot) when I was traveling around I would wear the pants and shoes and have the flip flops packed. I use the large packing cube and small packing cube. I think my biggest complaint is the adjustable straps getting unraveled. But not a big issue at all.

That's so ironic that people will state you overpack, yet I am sure you have less in total items than all of them! Thanks for the great review Maggi :)

The Peak Design 45 L has been my go-to travel luggage for the past 2 years. It and a briefcase that converts into a backpack from Aer check all the boxes for my travel needs for any multi day travel.

Hi Maggi - thanks for this review! I have the Peak Designs toiletry bag and it's perfect for me. I might have been tempted by this 45L travel bag, but now know that as a very narrow shouldered woman it may not fit me at all. I have the Tortuga backpack but find that a little heavy. I look forward to seeing what other bags you test and which ones you like. Happy travels!

Thanks for such an in-depth review! My partner has travelled with this bag for years and it works well for him, but it doesn't work for me, largely because of the things you mentioned here. Bags are such personal choices and while it's a bummer this one isn't your perfect bag, at least we all got a very thorough review out of it!
@MaggiFuchs5 ай бұрын
It‘s true, it‘s so different for everyone - that‘s why I tried to just share my perspective on what worked / didn‘t work for me instead of the „the best bag ever“ approach. 😂 And I can totally understand why it works well for your partner. :)

This is probably the best video I've seen on this bag. Finally, we have the thoughts of someone who actually used this bag (you, "in real life") instead of the usual Home Shopping Network or 2-week trial review videos we see out there. I agree with all your points laid out here. Speaking as a guy, I wouldn't consider the curvature of the straps but now that you mention it, that should have been considered by the manufacturer. For sure, 35L looks like a great, flexible bag size but ultimately all the extra unused features are just dead weight. Honestly, this bag looks like more photographers bag being re-sold as a general purpose bag :) Just one rando's opinion. All the best. Hope you're both doing well.

Last year I got my backpack. As I am not a reviewer, that gets free stuff, I researched a lot. On the internet search videos like this are the most helpful - you said what the bag was, showed the insides and told us how you used it, so we could compare it to our own bagpack usage. I went to a store multiple times to test different types (male/unisex, female) of a promising candidate and even got out the winterjacket in summer. It was a lot of work, but I am very sadisfied to have found *my* backpack. It will stay with me for many years. I hope everyone finds their perfect bag one day. Don't be afraid to test them in person, if you can!

You can very easy remove laptop compartment from backpack - the divider is usually sew in after backpack is made, so just rip the stitches and it should come out very easy. I did that with my Patagonia backpack so it gained a little bit of capacity and it suits my needs better.

Hi and many thanks for your helpful videos. As others have mentioned, yours is a unique situation that allows you to share in-depth reviews and commentaries which we rarely see from other presenters. If you did indeed appreciate many of the features of this bag, I suggest you look at and try Peak Design's 30L backpack. It can shrink to 27L and expand to 33L, and offers most of the same iconic details as the larger pack. It doesn't have as many pockets, and the main compartment works well for me - more of an "empty" section into which all my cubes and pouches fit easily. It is lighter weight than the 45L and the straps are somewhat differently oriented. I'm your size and they are perfect for me. No extra unused space makes for a lighter and more comfortable carry, and the "missing" 2L aren't important. The pack fits the smallest baggage slots on various public trans services across Europe and Asia, and is light enough that I can keep it on my lap or lock it to a seat or post near me if I don't trust the under bus luggage hold. Best wishes to you and your husband: safe and healthy travels!

Maggie, I had the same trouble with the Peak Design (though I agree it is a lovely bag). I think you might enjoy the Able Carry Max, the Evergoods CTB 26 (the 35 might be a bit big), the Osprey Daylite (the updated version) or the Patagonia mini MLC. I also love the Pakt One Duffel 35 L, but it is just that, a duffel, and may not be great for walking around cities etc. Best of luck in your quest!

I also like simple bags, pockets and accessories are dead weight. My current fav is 28L backpack and I'm on the lookout for a 35L because I also want wiggle room. But I also have a separate purse, so maybe it's best I dont increase my space allowance. I look forward to more bag reviews!

I quite enjoy my PD travel bag, but your points are some of the same aspects I have come to feel as well. I think you would really love the Evergoods Civic Travel Bag. Personally I like the larger version, but they have a 35L version.

Nice review! And I want to sign up for the newsletter, but don’t want to win the bag 😂. I am still looking too. I wish Osprey Arcane duffel came in 20+6 L and had the nice breathable back the Daylite 26+6 has. (But I do not typically carry a PC or camera equipment.) I do really like the quality of Osprey bags & I love the sleeker designs of the Arcane & the Daylite 26+6 unexpanded. So - looking forward to more reviews & general Maggi fun in front of the camera 🥰👍🏻✨!

I spent a good six months researching bags and purchased this exact bag. Hard agree on your sentiments. Love so many things about it but it’s just not comfortable to carry. I’ll probably sell it.

I was seriously considering this bag last year, but ended up going with a Tom Bihn Technonaut, and have zero regrets. We’re the same height, I have the 45, but I’m guessing you only need the 30. But I do also love my peak design packing cubes and wash pouch.

I love your review of a bag I have considered. I just spent a week living out of my new Osprey Women’s 40L travel pack. It could be a duffel or a backpack. I loved it’s versatility and simplicity. It’s not heavy when empty, and 40 liters is plenty of room. The straps are designed for women’s bodies. 👍 It’s my new favorite bag.
@MNP2085 ай бұрын
Can the Osprey be squished down to a personal item size? Also, are you using the Fairview or Tempest?
@heatherhutton5455 ай бұрын
@@MNP208 it’s the Fairview. It can’t be squished due to it’s lightweight frame on the back side. That frame makes it possible for it to be a comfortable carry when it’s fully packed.

Maybe try the 30L Peak Design Travel backpack. It's the "little brother" to the 45L & the clamshell opens all the way to the bottom. There are still pockets & organizational areas though, so if they really bother you it may not work.

I love your review. I recently just got mine in the mail and did some testing around the house with the backpack loaded up about half. The straps are pretty uncomfortable. I’m wondering does anyone know if these straps will get more comfortable over time as they were in or if they’re uncomfortable now they’ll be uncomfortable later.

I feel like they broke in a little bit while using it, but for me personally, they were never really comfortable because for me they were not a good match for my body type.

Wonderful review! Were there any issues with size in the 35L state, with overhead bins on budget airlines? Like prop planes? Thanks!
@MaggiFuchs5 ай бұрын
No, I didn‘t run into any problems. I was not on a prop plane, but on a small plane from Air Nostrum (regional plane in Spain). They forced people at the get to check most carry-on bags and just keep the personal items. I was allowed to keep my bag and it fit in the rather small overhead compartment without problems.

Doest it have a holder for tripod at the bottom? Because if we keep the tripod in that side pocket, the balancing will be a big issue while walking long distances.

There are those straps that you can attach to the front, but I don’t remeber if ther are loops to attach them at the bottom as well… 🤔

Does the Graeyl water taste good? Thinking about buying one
@MaggiFuchs5 ай бұрын
I am very spoilt with the quality of my water, so as soon as it tastes like chlorine or something, I have a hard time drinking it. The Grayl has a charcoal filter inside that filters out wierd flavors. It‘s doing a good job in my opinion.

I was wondering how you would go with such a heavy weighted bag, and now I know. As an Australian who lives with 7kg weight limit allowances here, but also throughout nearby countries like New Zealand and Asia as well, this bag has never been a consideration. It has always seemed to me as top quality but over-engineered… which adds weight.

This is carry-on but not personal item size?
@MaggiFuchs5 ай бұрын
If not extended, I had no problems as a carry-on, but it is definitely too big for a personal item.
@hyperpedro28685 ай бұрын
Seems a great bag but 2,05 kg... It is way too much. You can forget packing within the limit of 7kg. Osprey is good at making light quality carry on bags.
@megand1754 ай бұрын
Yes, way too heavy for me to consider when 7kg is the max carry on weight.
