Same exact experience 8 months (excluding the banging with the clip). My zipper issue is in the exact same spot and I'm worried it's about to give. That being said, best bag I have ever owned.

I've used this bag with a Dell XPS 15 for about a year now and the problem you point out about the zipper on the laptop-compartement is real. The zipper on my bag broke loose from the fabric in that exact point recently. On the positive side, Peak Designs lifetime warranty is equally real and they're shipping a new bag to me. Hopefully they will have improved this point in the newer bags.

Ole Andreas Flaaten Jonsgård I had this exact problem until it broke the zipper chain lose preventing me from closing it. thinking about getting one of these bags. love the design. good to hear it holds up. had no idea that it comes with a lifetime warranty.... awesome. one suggestion on the camera banging while you have both bag and camera, which I assume is on a neck strap, on you at the same time while moving. get a sling strap like the blackrapid which has a movable lock that locks the position of the camera until you need to take a shot with easy to lock/unlock knob. it won't move while walking/moving around once you lock it down on your side. great design. might be a solution for you if you haven't tried yet... I know this vid is 2 years old now... lol. take care!

The zippers are my biggest issues, both with the original Messenger and the Sling. The Sling's main zipper broke, and it is thus useless now. It broke at the corner where it turns. For the Messenger, which I wasn't using much until recently, after my Sling broke. The back zipper is starting to bend when I am carrying the back, without anything in there, and seems like it will break very soon. The falling over is another problem. Will make a video someday.

Great video, glad to see the bag is holding up well with constant use. Mine has had moderate use, mostly stuffing it full when travelling. have found that between where the top support bar (handle renforcement) ends and the edge of the bag it has tended to brunch/ pull up with use, makes getting the zip closed fully a bit tricky and also latched as the angle of the flap changes and doesn't line up.
@amdenis6 жыл бұрын
I have had mine for about 2 years of heavy use and over-stuffing, including a 12.9 iPad Pro and a MacBook Pro in that back pocket area.. After a few hundred days of use and traveling, and only recently did the back zipper break- just where he noted. So, i need to send it in sometime to get that fixed.

I also have the EDM 15", and I just bought the 20L Backpack and the Sling, and none of them can stand up if you put them on the floor. All of them just fall down to the front. So, I don't think it is a problem with your bag or your gear distribution in the bag. It is a fault in the design of the bags. The bottom of the bags is not square, but it is tilted to the front, so the bags can't stand up... As you say, it is annoying for such a expensive bags...

There is a bit of confusion about warranty, I think. Warranty occurs when there is a default in the material or the built, it is not there to cover heavy use. Well that's the way it is in France, don't know about US, but ...

You’re right. However, from the comments I’ve been getting here, the zipper seems to be a very common issue. That leads me to believe it is indeed a design/manufacturing fault and Peak Design should honor it. I’m sure they would.

Yes, mine falls over too. Every single day. I think it's to do with the quite narrow base in combination with the protruding front. Not sure how they could've fixed this without extending the base - which would potentially made it look ugly.
@MrPhotographerDude7 жыл бұрын
Did you forget to talk about the rear pocket or the laptop compartment? The orange pouch on the inside of that has velcro and mine already came undone. So far that has been my only complaint about the bag and it is annoying that it falls over all the time.
@DCuerpoJr7 жыл бұрын
I have the exact same bag. I normally lug around my 15" MBP, Fuji X-Pro 2 with the 23mm f1.4, 56mm f1.2 and 10-24mm f4 on a daily basis to the office and to a photo shoot (though I normally offload the MBP since I don't need to edit the photos until I get back to the office). Overall, I love the bag, but my primary complaints are: It tips over way too easily and the shoulder strap creeps loose every time I walk around with the bag over my shoulder. Luckily, the second hook adjustment holds the strap at the approximate length I need it to be.
@DarrenKrusi7 жыл бұрын

Excellent video. You're getting around the bag, and the stuff you're covering is relevant. I've found that when putting the bag down, folding the hatch behind it, would make it stable on flat ground so it doesn't tip over. It'll expose your equipment tho, so not recommendable in bad weather :-P I love my Everyday Messenger to death. I got the large variant, and it was perfect for my Nikon D750, 24-120mm, 50mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8 and 16-35mm f/4. It was a tight fit, but it worked, and having the D750 hanging with Capture outside the bag was no problem at all. Now I have a Fujifilm X-Pro2, and the bag is kinda too big. But that just mean I got room for more personal stuff. A bit of critique: You're looking away from the camera a bit too much, while you are explaining your point. It's a bit distracting along with the focus and DOF changing around. All in all a very nice video which got me following :-) (Oh.. And what brand is that hoodie?)

Hey David, what are your thoughts about the Lowepro Passport Sling III?
@DavidVogt7 жыл бұрын
I've had good experiences with Lowepro bags in the past, though not this particular bag. I think the main factor here would be the ability to carry a laptop. The Everyday Messenger 15 can hold a 15" MacBook, and the Passport Sling definitely can't do that. Other than that, the price is certainly much more attractive.
@NPC00107 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think it can only carry a small laptop or a tablet from what I've seen of it. I also like it's expand-ability feature where you unzip the back so you can put more stuff in. Hmmm, thanks for your input, David.

Hi, I enjoyed your video and it had many informative things. I just wanted to comment and please don't think I am being impolite. On something like a bag that has a "Lifetime Warranty" The warranty is on manufacturing faults and not wear and tear. If you use a bag every single day for carrying heavy things and after 4 years of daily use the bottom gets scuffed from putting it down onto gravel and rocks, or the zipper breaks because your 15in laptop makes it kink in the corner. It is not Peak Designs fault and you should not want them to give you a new bag for that reason. It is like returning the tire on your car after 100.000 miles because it has no tread left. People who demand new products when the old one is worn up spoil warranties for everyone else. Peak designs will either go broke or start giving short warranties if people abuse the warranty!
@DavidVogt7 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, thanks for your comment. I agree with you to an extent. However, this bag is "designed" to be used with a 15" MacBook, so if putting my MacBook in the bag causes the zipper to break, I absolutely believe their warranty should cover it, whether it's a manufacturing fault or a design fault. Of course a bag will get scuffed after daily use. :) I have no problems with scuffs, but a broken zipper from normal use is definitely not acceptable in my opinion. It also seems that others are seeing this problem with the zipper as well, so we will see how it goes!

If im looking for a very good college bag do I look for another bag?
@chrissmith27727 жыл бұрын
Well, one of my only slight issues with the bag is that when you have an a4 book in it you can only put one divider right down one end. That setup works great though, but I would prefer if the bag had a slim pocket/divider in the main compartment for notebooks and papers to slide in - like the small pocket on the inside for phones. With that said, its pretty great though I'm sure there are other bags out there that would work better for school in terms of carrying notebooks and the like. But none of them would be nearly as versatile as this one. If you already have an everyday use bag of a similar carrying capacity that you like than I'd advise you to look more specifically at things targeted to college students. If you dont have another bag then this one is brilliantly versatile and will serve you well

You need to understand that a "lifetime Warranty" is in reference to the "lifetime" of the bag not your lifetime. So if the bag has an expected lifetime of 3 years, for example, the company has no obligation to honour any warranties after that.

I would expect a $250 bag to last much, much longer than 3 years.

The problem I see is that here it's particularly crucial that $2000+ lenses don't just spill out of the bag and go rolling down the hill. Obviously the slim design makes this a challenge, and there is no perfect camera bag, this one being included. Not a huge problem, but the biggest one I could find. :)

Agreed... That's what I meant about bags of this type, that being the "messenger" bag. They're mostly made for being slung over your shoulder and sort of "tossed" at a table/couch/bed etc... But I see your point since they're targeting this to photogs who may possess expensive gear...

Good job on this review, keep up the great work and my bag is in the same condition as yours as i also backed PD in all of their Kickstarter campaigns! :)

BAG FALLING OVER You've stimulated my most annoying trait which is to immediately start to invent something. I'll let you take the initiative since you're more the right age, and are so annoyed. PLEASE FIGURE OUT AN OUTRIGGER SYSTEM that attaches by thru-hardware onto any such bag, and folds into the bottom - looks like a giant sneaker sole and secretly turns in the middle to a nice balanced outrigger. So you kill two annoying birds with one Kickstarter campaign. If this were 1950-something you could recycle tire treads. But this is the age of the 3D printer! Should be a fun fab.

If I were you I would rather expect to hear you were carrying too large laptop than anything about fixing it;) hope that doesn’t happen:)

15” retina MacBook Pro, exactly the same computer PD used to advertise the bag.

I see. It's odd it is misshapen like this after just a year, considering the price of this backpack.

I totally agree. I do see that PD has a version 2 for sale now with slight improvements - hopefully they made improvements in that regard. :)

I was considering PD backpack for quite some time, but I just can't accept this open shell construction, I would fear some of my gear might get scratched or a lens would fall out of it when I open the backpack. I went for the Errant backpack, also a Kickstarter project. Hope I made a good choice :D

You should pay for the broken zipper if it happens. Your fault

Please elaborate how it’s my fault. PD says it’s designed for a 15” MacBook, which is exactly what I put in it. As a side note, I’ve heard from others who are having this issue as well.
