Peak Design Sling 3L V2 vs 5L V1. New vs Old. Big Brother vs little brother.I share what I think got BETTER and WORSE on the V2 slings. It's actually not a clear answer. I'm a fan of Peak and have owned both bags. This review is critical, and must say....I'm keeping both.

@@beautifuldisasternails Nice! Umm, im not too familiar with many hip packs that have a water bottle holder, but I would look at the Patagonia 5L waist pack. great review. i wish they had the 5L with the new strap and make the 5 a 6L by being longer rather than deeper. this allows putting longer lenses in while mounted on the camera (like 100-400+tele). Idk why they think everyone carries a drone 3 small lenses and an ipad. Most people I see carry a long, a short and maybe a medium lens, no drone, and maybe an ipad. If they were to carry a drone they get a 10L or a backpack, or they do not bring the camera. Also, still trying to figure out why there are capture straps on the side. they look cool but seem unuseable. Agree on all your comments on the issues with the 3L "v2" as well.
@EDG
@EDG 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure, I love the bag even if my review doesn't sound like it. But agree that the sizing is a bit weird that makea it kind of limiting.its too short to carry 2 lenses vertical, buy also too tall to carry 1 lens vertical. So you would think longer is better so it could fit a camera with lens attached on its side

@@EDG I rewatched the video (yeah..) and it occurred to me most changes were made to reduce production costs. I hope they reverse that trend in the V3. I've also tried a V1 10L since and it's pretty good, I suspect, it's better than the V2 10L. The interior is also higher quality with better pockets in the top bag. It's just like you said, they're all good bags - but - they aim for being above the rest and the price tag follows that, so, I'd like if they actually kept trying to be above the rest :) Hopefully they did watch your video

@@EDG You are welcome, and good question about a V3 line. I have picked up a collection of Peak Design bags, all used and in near new to as new condition, so I like them, obviously. However, I am a dedicated Micro Four Thirds shooter and I find their bags to generally be a bit too small or a bit too big for my gear. MFT bodies are smaller then just about any FF mirrorless body, and the lenses are about half the size. I've written to them asking that they develop a line of bags sized for MFT, but I don't really expect them to do that. What I would like is some new dividers which would allow more variations on interior origination.

I think you are totally right. For me it was not a question between 5l and 3l but to upgrade my 5l to a 6l. And nearly all you've said matches for this as well. I think the new slings have some cool features, like 2 zippers, a better handling for the strap (similar to the Slide Lite) etc. and so I ordered a 6l some days ago. I was really surprised because it looks so bulky and huge in comparison to my 5l. Not really compact any more. It's the height! I'd need it just a tiny bit wider - like if they could make my 5l just an 5.5l or so, but without touching the height, so I could pack three lenses next to each other. But more height won't help me here. I think I will send it back and keep my good old 5l. Maybe I'll get one of the Range Pouches for more flexibility in case I want to take a 3rd lens with me. Hoping for some better designed v3 slings cause I'm a big fan of PD with a sh$t load of their stuff in my closet. Thanks for your insights and have a nice one! Cheers from Germany! 🖖

I had the 5L in the past, then sold it when I cleared out a bunch of camera gear to re-organise my set up, now I'm looking for another bag and considering getting the V2. I loved the V1 5L, but I felt the strap padding was insubstantial and awkwardly placed. I'm considering a 6L over a 3L because I feel I need the extra room for bigger lenses (Fuji XT4 w/ 16-80 and then either a smaller prime or the 80mm macro, if I take the 55-140 I take a backpack). I also agree with Peak Design making great products but they are SO expensive for what they are, but this is the price we pay for photography bags that a) look dope and b) are designed with photographers in mind

James Walker yep totally understand. I’d second the 6L, I I think the 3L is just too small and leads to the annoyances I mentioned . I’ve never had a problem with Peaks price because they do make incredible products. It’s just their tendency to over design sometimes.

@@EDG I think when you look at their prices in comparison to non-photography products, they really are ridiculous. Good comparison. Peak Design favors design over function. You get the feeling that their team doesn't actually use the products. Their stuff is so over designed that the actual usable interior space i often strangled. The stretchy inside pockets are cool but come at the cost of huge seams and welts. If you put a lens in one of these you usually can't get anything else in back or front of it. Whereas in traditional camera bags the velcro compartments don't impinge. You really need to take your actual load to test these bags-if it works it works. I would have appreciated actual load outs from you for 3L and 5L to see how much difference the sizes matter in use. I was planning to buy all sizes. If I want to carry Canon M-50 with one small attached lens and my usual EDC carry: 4 card wallet, small notebook iPhone power bank-keychain, knife, mini flashlight-will 3L work? Thanks (BTW I feel PD straps in general, shoulder padding suck. Compare with say Manfrotto-who don''t mess around and focus on utilitarian CAMERA CARRY.
@EDG
@EDG 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lawurence, always excited to receive comments like yours and get into the details. I completely agree with you first point. Peak's stuff is great, but tends to be heavy and over-designed at times. Im familiar with the size of the M50, and no, I don't think it will comfortably fit everything you described. Notice I said comfortably. Depending on the size of your notebook and power bank, and if you detach the lens it MAAAYBE could fit, but everything would b e piled on top of the camera since the mini flasligk and power bank probably won't fit in the other pockets. So it would be a very terrible carry experience most likely. Yea, PD's straps are ok, but aren't really Utilitarian! Thanks, let me know if you have other questions, love the discussion.

I own the 5L and the new 3L and 6L bags. Personally i like the 3L for smaller camera’s like the A6600. The 5L and 6L are very similar and can fit an A7 serie with an additional lens. The 6L is too big imo but well build like the 3L is, the 6L has alot of wasted space, this is why the 5L has a better smoother design, while is it more compact than the 6L , it holds the same amount of equipment. So why i own all three the bags, the 3L is used by my wife and i use the 6L duo the broken zipper on the 5L, which is the biggest flaw on the v1. That all being said, i got the 6L on warranty for free from PD, customer service is just great. The 6L is still a great bag, i just prefer the 5L thats all.

Thanks for the comment. I’m with ya there. In my heart, the 5L is my pick as well. The looks, the size is all perfect for me. Yea I also had a a6000 and Fuji xt30 in the 3L for its size. But dang, sucks about the broken zipper . Do you know if there was an option to get another 5L via warranty?

Stupid comparison. 5l is closer to 6l(hate the name, because the bags don't have or take x amount of liters). Your problems are design choices that you don't like, some of aren't even present with other colours. Saying a whole line of bags is worse because you don't like specific part of that bag out of some 9 bags, is stupid. If you'd compared it to the 6l, you'd be left with different zipper pulls as a negative. The 6l is better than 5l, 3l is smaller and have very different use than the bigger bags.
@EDG
@EDG 4 жыл бұрын
Did you even watch the video or own any of these bags? Probably not, so let me breakdown your comment: "Your problems are design choices that you don't like, some of aren't even present with other colours." I mention both design choices and functional choices. I'm not claiming all features are on all bags, but most are. Also, the video title and picture specify what I'm comparing. And in the first 20 seconds, I say I'm comparing them because they're similar price. "Saying a whole line of bags is worse because you don't like specific part of that bag out of some 9 bags, is stupid." Where do you get 9 bags from? I count 5 (5lV1, 10LV1, 3lV2, 6lV2, 10lV2). If you're 9 cunt refers to other V2, line bags (backpacks, totes, etc) then that's dumb. Why would I speak to the ENTIRE V2 line in my video which is titled "Everyday Sling 3L, 5L Comparison". Again, the video title and picture specify what I'm comparing. "If you'd compared it to the 6L you'd be left with different zipper pulls as a negative. " -- Not true, I'd also have uglier front pocket, mismatching strap materials, mesh side walls, bigger base, more features, ambidextrous support, plastic piece along opening, handle placement.......and zipper pulls. So basically everything mentioned in the video. "The 6l is better than 5l, 3l is smaller and have very different use than the bigger bags." -- The 6L is better ...in your opinion. Yes, the 3L is smaller than the 5L, that's the only true statement you had in your entire comment.
@odys3803
@odys3803 4 жыл бұрын
@@EDG "is V2 worth the upgrade" is portion of your video title. 9 something bags, referring V2 Sling bags only. Uglier front pocket, that's your opinion not a design flaw. Mismatching strap material, I have the grey 6l, the strap is same as the bag. And unfortunately yes, I did watch the video. It's edited nicely, in general, but when you do a review, it should be objective not subjective. 2 years old BMW 7 is about the price of a brand M5, trying to find out if you should buy the newer one based on that, is stupid.
@EDG
@EDG 4 жыл бұрын
@@odys3803 The V2 is within the context of slings in the first part of the title. "Peak Design Everyday Sling 3L, 5L Comparison - Is Peak Design Everyday Sling V2 Worth the Upgrade?" That title is just redundant. I did include alot of opinion as it's a personal review. I hear you on the objective part, but that's my problem with most reviews nowadays. To stay truly objective, it would boil down to comparing spec sheets, which anyone can do on Peak's websites. I'm happy when people disagree with my opinion, because at least they're thinking about the product critically. Strongly Disagree on this last point though. It's a brand's responsibility to convince a buyer to upgrade from previous models, to justify the higher price. How many people do you know with old iPhones, or even old BMW 7s for that matter. Those people decided the upgrade/price wasn't worth it for the features given. By your logic, every person should be running around with the newest slings, newest phones, and newest cars, because there's NO WAY an older product could be adequate.
@odys3803
@odys3803 4 жыл бұрын
@@EDG Title isn´t redundant unless it´s a clickbait. You can stay objective when comparing two products, maybe sum up your subjective opinion at the end or beginning, don´t spread it to the whole video. By my logic you should compare things in the same class or as close as possible. If you own an old BMW 7 and looking for something similar, don't compare it to something with half the size and very, very different features.
@EDG
@EDG 4 жыл бұрын
@@odys3803 I wouldn't say the 3L features versus 6L features are very very different. They're pretty similar. It's more of a feature comparison between the V1 versus V2 line. I mean V1 peak design everyday sling vs V2 peak design everyday sling...to be clear.
