Back Kickstarter No. 13 now: www.kickstarte...
Peak Design was born in the outdoors. Our first product and the star of Kickstarter No. 1, Capture, was dreamt up during a hike and created to keep cameras accessible and safe while exploring. Since then, we've created a whole slew of products to support photography and outdoor recreation, but never a true outdoor photography bag - until now.
Enter the Outdoor Line by Peak Design.
Our most technologically advanced line yet, the Outdoor Line features rugged construction, brilliant comfort, and seamless integration with our Camera Cubes and Packing Tools. Lightweight enough for any trek and protective enough to hold your most precious gear, the backpacks and slings comprising the Outdoor Line are the most thoughtfully designed outdoor bags on the planet.
Back the Kickstarter now to get up to 25% off the Outdoor bag of your choice, and we'll see you out there.

@cristibaluta
@cristibaluta 28 күн бұрын
@@JMurph2015 what do you mean it does not have padding? I thought the straps had more padding than necessary. I'd say the weight is in the middle, you are probably comparing with ultralight gear, which means ultrathin as well
@JMurph2015
@JMurph2015 28 күн бұрын
@@cristibaluta the new PD does not have padding for camera gear inside. You still need a camera cube with these bags. Therefore, it will be even heavier than the quoted 4.5lbs. My 65L Osprey with complicated harness, padding on straps and all, still comes in right around 4lbs. You'd need a camera cube for that bag too, but it's starting at 1/2 lb lighter and is 20L bigger.
@cristibaluta
@cristibaluta 28 күн бұрын
@@JMurph2015 I'm looking at Atmos and it's 4.6lb. I don't see so much padding, the back is mesh. It is also very thin material as i was expecting. PD it is made for outdoor but they still wanted to keep some photography stuff, i think the weight is alright

Last week I was on a photo shoot at the Aiguille du Midi, Europe's highest cable car. I thought that with everything I'd brought along (camera, lenses, filters, tripod, action camera, warm clothes, water bottle, hydration, food, ...) my Peak Design EveryDay Backpack 20L bag was a bit "tight". And then I saw this bag, a Peak Design bag I'd never seen anywhere. I remained very intrigued until today. I had discovered the new Outdoor Line backpack before it was announced. This is exactly the bag I would have needed that day. And Peak Design makes it…

Why not include the hip belt with the 25L as well? I know for some people it may be unnecessary to have for a relatively small backpack, but for the rest of us it's definitely wanted. And at that asking price, it should definitely come standard with it. I'm sure many of us concur!

@@cristibaluta I don't quite get what you mean by that? I know that it's included in the 45L version because it's much more needed but what I'm saying is that at that price point, it should come standard on the 25L as well. That's because a number of us would definitely use it frequently even on the 25L on certain occasions or specific needs/use case. And for those who don't use it as often or don't want it, just remove it or stow it away at the back.

This shows people climbing in these bags, using a bag like this for mountaineering/climbing compared to an alpine bag adds a ton of weight & alot of that weight not where you want it for those purposes. I like the PD slinigs & bags but I feel they really built these for the people that dont leave the groomed trail. I guess that is probably the majority of people that would buy these over an alpine/hiking/climbing bag though.

Yeah this looks like amateur hour frankly. They said the shoulder straps "distribute weight over a far greater area" when the shoulder straps are not supposed to have weight on them in the first place 🤣. Then they follow up that dumb statement with another about it being the most customizable harness they've ever tested when it is **clearly** less adjustable than any serious hiking or backpacking bag (infinitely adjustable chest length adjustment, memory foam hip belts, hip belt tension straps, better positioned load lifter straps, infinitely adjustable sternum straps, and the list goes on). I'm really disappointed because I was hoping PD would take a page from real, serious backpacks and make a great outdoor option.

Looking forward to seeing this new line. Reviews of pre production items seem generally favorable but (and a big but) I have yet to see any reviews by serious wildlife and bird photographers. The unique nature of that photography and use of long lenses means reviews done to date are somewhat lacking in specifics I see as important to my style of photography. One negative I am sad to see is the lack of a water bottle pouch on the 7l sling. I often live to use a sling for batteries, extra sd cards, a small lens (in case) my keys and maybe a cliff bar or apple. The camera and ling lens on a strap system. But not having a way to carry water limits the time out I will have with this setup. For example I am just back from two weeks of shorebird and seal (the mammal not the singer!! Lol) photography. I went out one morning thinking it would be a one hour walk along the beach. Next thing I know three hours have passed and along with being a bit hungry I really would like a bit of water. But because I have just the camera and long lens and a few items in my 6l Peak Design sling I didn't have a place for water. .... in looking at reviews of the pre production slings I wonder why a water bottle pouch similar to what is available on the two packs wasn't added to the bottom of the sling?? Anyway just a thought for a future update. Peak Design thanks for finally designing something for the non urban photography crowd!

I love and own lots of PD stuff. Not many ppl like roll-tops, but I do. Those new bags might look a bit weird at first sight, but the design grows on me 🙂They are both nice, but also a bit overcomplicated. My main gripe is with the roll-top section though - when fully loaded, the cinch closure does not go over the top, so zero protection from the rain, just a magnets? PD could be easily inspired by the likes of Wandrd here. This oversight mostly renders extended roll-top section a moot point here. Or you have to use some rain cover.

Please redesign the hip belts. Ive learned over years of backpacking that the only style of hip belt that doesnt hurt my hip bones are the ones with V-style buckle straps. See z packs or some of the heavier osprey packs. They're so much more comfortable for anyone with prominent hip bones (and neutral for other folks). I can't buy a weight-carrying pack thst doesnt have a hip belt thst has this kind of distribution. I think the 25L day pack is fine with a straight single-belt style, but the 45L should really have 2 pieces of webbing per side like zpacks. Also, 45L seems a little small for backpacking. Would love to see 55 or 65.

You seemed to have figured it out and you have a great team of people behind your products & company. Along with the ability to maintain your image as a fun, caring company. Made for you.

Oh I love this. I'm a sucker for good outdoor gear. But going kickstarter? With the size, Peak Design has, is really getting ridiculous. Crowdfunding is not for large companies.
@gloxton
@gloxton Ай бұрын
They started on Kickstarter (still have my original Capture Clip) and now use it to build hype and communicate with their base. In the past they've changed/added things because of feedback from backers (before the stuff went into production). That's pretty incredible. They care about their products and their customers and Kickstarter is the best way to engage with them. The bags are always going to be made because they set low goals (this has already got 5 times the required goal). Kickstarter is a great tool for them and us and it would be a shame if Peak Design leave it.
@peakdesignvideo

We get where you're coming from, but being completely privately owned, a launch of this scale would be a very difficult investment for us without crowdfunding. We do punch above our weight class in terms of market presence, but we're still a rather small company with fewer than 100 corporate employees, and we're determined to avoid outside investment. This allows us to make the products we want to make how we want to make them, without answering to a board of investors. It also makes this a much more pleasant place to work. In addition, Kickstarter is one of the best ways to connect with our community, which only becomes more important as we grow. It gives us a great forum to easily field and answer questions from customers publicly, and provide new products at a solid discount to backers, which we always love doing.

You can do this with a small camera cube on top of a smedium or medium (depending on the bag) if you'd like as well. So smedium or medium accessed through the back, small sitting on top of that to be accessed from the top. May not work for your needs but wanted to suggest it!

I have a couple of questions regarding the 25L Outdoor Backpack: 1. According to your kickstarter page, the smedium camera cube would fit perfectly, but there have been reviews saying that the medium cube would also fit, may I ask is that possible? 2. What is the brand/model of the water bladder that is used for demonstration on the 25L version? 3. Is the version being shown a final? It seems to me that the Ultra Cinch Loop tends to dangle around, and worse, would catch tree branches during hiking, would PD do anything to improve it before the backpack is shipped? 4. According to the reviews, the Ultra Cinch Loop system allows access to both the main compartment, as well as a deep pocket in front of it. Under heavy/mild rain, will water accummulate inside the deep pocket as it gets caught via the opening at the top? Many thanks Peak Design for the beautiful design btw.

I wish I could try this in person, but just going off the various video reviews, my initial reaction is unfortunately one of disappointment. I had long hoped that there could be a collab to combine PD's organizational and design skills with Osprey's load carry and back panel breathability (some aspects of which I believe are still under patent protection), but ever since Osprey sold out to Helen of Troy I've been really hoping Peak Design could take on the challenge solo of a benefits corp bringing a proper backpacking bag for photographers to the market. Without a contoured tensioned mesh back panel, and with that pivoting hip belt connection point, this is not that bag unfortunately. I'm skeptical of the top closure (the drawstring seems fiddly and like it would get caught on something on the trail). I suppose the market for these bags may be larger than the bag I've been hoping for, so I can at least understand the business decision to start the outdoor line with these bags, but nonetheless, I'm still a bit disappointed in the design here.

What kind of weight can the 2L sling bag take? Think I could use that as a lens swapping tool? And with the 45L bag, as the zip for the back access probably is not covered by the rainfly, what stops sustained wet conditions from getting in through the zips? If anything could the rainfly end up channeling water towards the uncovered rear access panel?

Sorry but the number of self-owns in describing the backpack harnesses was really cringe worthy. There are extremely good reasons that backpacking bags have more-or-less converged on similar harness designs to each other. I wish PD had just done a collab with one of the major outdoor backpack companies, they know what they're doing.

I'm a big fan of PD products and I own a bunch of them and I can't believe what ugly backpack they just created. I'm not too fond of the roll top, it's strings everywhere and has almost no zippers. Also, the g hooks on the back look like they will tear apart after 1-2 years of use if the backpack is heavier. I can see countless different ways to make a great backpack with all the PD clever stuff and yet you didn't do it.

Both backpacks are just a few inches thick without anything in them. For example, I've got my 45L tucked behind my bicycle gravity rack against the wall right now very easily. Just keep in mind that the 45L does have the internal frame so it shouldn't be folded, and the 25L does still have some structure to it even though it doesn't have the frame.
