Rose is my local resort and the Chutes are indeed a treasure. We waited years for them to officially open. Prior to that if you got caught in there you’d lose your pass. And it’s very steep terrain. When you drive by in the summer it’s kind of mind boggling that there are ski runs on terrain like that.

Mt Rose is my local mountain and I finally did my first Chutes this weekend on the last day of the season! Nightmare , Beehive and Hornet's Nest. Snow was soft and awesome though a Slurpee toward the bottom. Now I can't wait to get back up there next year. Great video!

Nice video of the Chutes. I grew up in Mass and skied all over New England as a kid, I moved out West about 40 years ago. Haven't been back East to ski since!! For the last 20 years I've been in Reno, I live about 20 minutes from Rose and it's my home mountain but I also ski a lot at Squaw, Alpine and Mammoth too. This season the Chutes have been sick, we've got over 650 inches of snow at Rose. You better not drink too many brews in Timbers waiting for the Chutes to open on a pow day once all the bombing is done. Definitely want to bring your A game. This year the Chutes are really filled in with all the snow we've received, I'm skiing lines I've never been able to ski before. If you can catch a rope snap on a powder day and get first tracks in the Chutes there's nothing better. Today was day 105 at Rose this season!!

What passes do you get? I just started a couple seasons ago and am looking to move out west in the next couple years, and am looking at Reno area. As of now I get the epic pass with the cheap military discount. But that obviously doesn’t cover all the Tahoe resorts.
@bjbhehir Жыл бұрын
@@ggNotSuree i get a Rose pass and an ikon pass every year. The ikon pass gives you Squaw and Alpine which are both about an hour away from Reno, both are amazing mountains! You also get Mammoth on the ikon which is 3 hours away. Good luck and you won't regret moving to Tahoe, it's great year round!

The second year the Chutes were open at Mt Rose, I skied Cutthroat and Lowball and called it good.

From vermont, researching for fun potential places to move out west. Not gonna lie - I feel like I could manage those double blacks! Ive done double blacks here where there isnt even room to turn my board sideways, trees are so tight and the single lane of passage is coated in ice.. I hope when I am ready to move out west my skills will let me go just about anywhere! Been eyeing reno as a possible landing spot. Anyways, great video, thanks for sharing.

These are certainly steep-but if you've hit the hardest lines in New England, they won't be anything you're not familiar with!

did you move to reno? what do you think?

Yea you move yet? I’m looking at the Reno area too personally, within the next couple years. Hopefully buy a home. (May need a roommate :p)

I think you'll be good here. Very steep, but the snow is much better than back East.

Video looking down always seems to struggle to give you true perspective on the steepness. Looking back up the mountain provides a better idea. 5:26

We are hoping to get there this season if possible!

@@PeakRankings I love Bear Valley! I grew up there and was a ski instructor there in Highschool and College. Highly recommend the Grizzly Bowl and lower mountain if you get the chance, they are often closed however. Most classic Run is probably The Face and also dont skip the Cornice above porridge bowl! Expert Runs to look out for are West Ridge and Uptight, the double black on the western side of the bowl and Hari-Kari on the eastern. Both are amazing in the right conditions. Everything on the village side is a random grab bag of unskiable cliffs and crazy spring slush skiing. For the best glade skiing go on the back side and check out everything off of Coral ridge, depending on the time of year the snow can get real deep and the trees are absolutely huge, unlike anything in Colorado etc. Only thing to watch out for is crusty snow or classic Sierra Cement. It's always a risk given lower elevation and warmer climate.

Honestly, none of these chutes look as bad as Supreme Bowl at Alta. I am taking into consideration video making things look less steep, as El Cap looks about as steep as a video of the steepest run there. Anyways could you do a mountain review of Beaver Mountain? You already did a video on it but that was 4 years ago :/
@PeakRankings3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback! To be frank, Beaver Mountain (if you are referring to the Utah one) is a more regional mountain and not a priority for this season. But we will try to add it in future winter!

Beaver isn’t worth the drive. And yes supreme bowl is pretty bad right now.
@kiramuro2 жыл бұрын
Charge and Yellowjacket are both pretty steep. They are definitely steeper than anything at Alta albeit the difference is not that much (maybe a few degrees). Only other place that I skied which I felt as as consistently steep are certain areas on top of Blackcomb, Mammoth and the steep gullies at Abasin
@MaxGreenSkiFilms2 жыл бұрын
@@kiramuro Yellowjacket is 43 degrees. Alta has steeper.
@kiramuro2 жыл бұрын
@@MaxGreenSkiFilms you'll have to refresh my memory. I don't remember anything i skied at Alta close to the 45 deg range (which charge is around), unless you want to count some stuff off of baldy.
