Yes, Loveland totally sucks, please don't go there! (definitely not a local that loves the lack of crowds....)
@holymeto998111 ай бұрын
Oh yeah, it's far too overrated. I did the mistake of visiting it once. When I was on the slopes, I had trouble telling if I was doing a cross country skiing trip or an alpine skiing trip.

One of my best skiing memories comes from Loveland. On a not-too-snowy snow day, the clouds were low, and the full mountain was open. Coming off the lift at the top, there was nothing but a sea of cloud below, with only the tallest peaks poking through. Totally removed from the rest of society that's just right at the base. It was such an awesome view that I don't think I'll ever forget.

I grew up skiing at Loveland. As an adult who can go to any I-70 resort i choose, I still prefer Loveland. The terrain is diverse, the views on the divide are awesome, and the local vibe is nice.

The food here is the best. The lifts are slow but gives you time to catch your breath, if you can. I went on a windy-ish day and still had fun. The snow was falling and I didn't go to the top-top but chair 8 was a blast. I liked this resort more than A basin.

I worked there almost 30 years ago while in college. Love that place, doesn't look like too much has changed really, except the lift between the two lodges. great video, my only gripe...it's not a resort. As you mentioned, there's no lodging or "base village." It's just a good, old run of the mill ski area. Which is all one needs most of the time.
@robnevitt759311 ай бұрын
Unless you require Vail like ammenities, Loveland is a fantastic place to ski except on windy days. Loveland has the best early season snow on the Front Range. Chair 8 has outstanding terrain when the snow is good.

When I first moved to Colorado in 2019 and before I joined the mega-pass train the year after, I got season passes at Loveland. Overall, it’s a decent “working class” ski area, but the ancient lift system is my main gripe. It just doesn’t stand up to the resorts around it based on that.
@Gratitude75310 ай бұрын

I got kicked out of high school *twice* because I was always riding Loveland instead of going to class. I will always begrudge them for the way they placed lift 9, though. That area was essentially a big, natural terrain park. The best collection of good side hits, big and small, I've ever experienced on any mountain anywhere. So many epic sessions went down in that zone, and they put lift infrastructure on literally almost every single feature. Straight wrecked it. People were universally gutted by the loss of that terrain. Switched to A-Basin the following season, and eventually to Copper after that, and only rode Loveland 1-2 times ever again.

I skied Loveland last year for the first time. It's greatest advantage is convenience. While I had a great time on the hill, it felt like I was at Boreal on the top of Donner Summit in that I was spending more time in line and on the lift than I was actually skiing.

Totally disagree on the lift placement and infrastructure critiques. Warming huts and restrooms are placed wonderfully for those not wanting to lose a second of their day but need to warm up or pee. I’ve never been wanting for any feature or comfort. The lifts are placed based on prevailing winds so they can run in all but the most extreme weather. This is a feature. Go ahead and see how many above timberline lifts winter park or keystone have rolling on a storm day…compared to Loveland
@pewpewpandas92039 ай бұрын
True! I was there last year during a particularly rough day (super high winds, very low vis) and the only lifts they had running were 2 and (checks notes) 4! Which literally brings you up to the top of the mountain (although not all the way to the top of the ridge line). The place is great! (Also slow lifts are definitely made up for in the lack of lift lines at all times of the day)

I would not recommend Loveland for a destination skier. It serves a very specific purpose for Denver area skiers because it's easy to get to and offers very diverse terrain. It's not a resort but a rather funky, wild and old-school ski area. It's often windy plus there is very little grooming. I say this as a long-time Loveland season pass holder. Also, never take "The Face" down from chair 8 to the tunnel under I-70 to return to the base if you want to preserve your skis/boards.

Ah yes, Loveland(and every other Summit County ski area). Wake up at 4:30 in the morning to get stuck in traffic. Get to Loveland at 8:30 am, Ski for 5 hours. Realize I-70 is closed. You now never want to ski again. Finally, by midnight your back home and by the next weekend you want to do it again. Just go somewhere else that isn't Summit County, 6 hours of your day will be in traffic 😢
