Fun fact: Mosley was an unabashed Nazi who tried to established their movement on English soil. Thankfully, it didn't take. We had similar moments in the States before World War II. I wonder if anyone feels an uncomfortable connection between their message and the one being played out today on the world political stage. We really need to remember about the importance of history and why we have to be careful not to repeat the ugliest, evil parts of it. 😔
@NPA10015 ай бұрын
Yeah I don’t think the bits where Mosley used the phrase “it will be Britain First” and spoke about “false news” were a coincidence

It's changed now though. The conflict between Communism and Fascism has morphed into Globalisation against the desire to return to the sovereign Nation State. It's liable to be a long fight.

That McCavern went from "Someday Arthur" to "Someday Mr. Shelby" was a subtle giveaway that he was probably at least a little bit intimidated by Arthur's madness. Great acting by Paul Anderson. If looks could kill, this was it.

You do know Mosley is an historical figure , he was a full blown Facist and had his Black Shirts as Hitler had his brown shirts. His party never gained any seats in parliament but was growing until the rise of Hitler in Germany put the British public right off fascists. I won’t say more to spoil the story but you seem to be missing a few points that British people will be very aware of.

It always makes me laugh when I hear Mosley mention Liverpool in this episode - when he did go there to try and stir up some support, he ended up taking a cobble stone to the head during his speech. I don't think he ever went back after that. We don't like fascists in Liverpool.

“Dude sounds like a Nazi” now you’re getting it lol. Think about the time period we are in right now, how he mentioned Mussolini, the way he briefly did the Nazi pose during his speech and the way he spoke during it, and the obvious point the repetitive mentioning of Jewish people. The scary thing is that Oswald Mosley was a real person, if you have the time I recommend looking up that bit of history it really provides a lot of context for his character and the situation Tommy is in right now💯

In my opinion the most interesting in this hole thing is that Mosley was actually a real person, a real founder of a real fascist party in Britain The only big reason why he failed was because of the start of the war by Germany Otherwise Britain’s, Italy, Spain and Germany, would probably become fascist countries for a very long time A horrible scenario, just like the war Hey and yes I understand that knowledge of history is not the strong side of the most, but fascism is the foundation for national socialism- nazis…
@StuSaville5 ай бұрын
There was literally zero chance of Britain becoming fascist. Moseley's British Union of Fascists failed to secure any seats in parliament and even at their peak the best they could manage was to win a few local council elections. If it weren't for Moseley's antics proving to be such entertaining fodder for the British tabloids they would have been completely irrelevant as a political party.

Oswald Mosely is actually a fascinating char in real life (remember the context of the times before outright judging him, he was something of a populist and probably racist but a lot of it was driven by riding the waves). Unlike Hitler who was radicalised in the army and ofc didn't go on to be such a nice guy. Mosely had a crazy life, ppl he met, life he led. His son is Max Mosely who you would have heard of if you follow Formula one. (simplistic summary, not trying to be an apologist for him)

Fascinating or not, he was a POS. Anyone who wants life to be difficult for other people, and wants to stand on other people, is a scumbag. He was a self-proclaimed fascist, which implies he was definitely a racist; or can someone name a fascist who wasn't also a racist?
