I remember eating NYC public school lunches in the 1950s. It was the time of food surpluses so each meal had to pack a lot so as to pay the farmers. It seemed that every meal had a peanut butter sandwich and a half fresh orange, a waxed container (fold open crease type) of whole milk, some form of soup (in blue, yellow and pink melamine dishes)- including the notorious succotash soup-and a cookie or small cake like thing for desert. Chipped beef in a cream sauce was occasionally offered (I liked it).

I am a notoriously picky eater. I watched a burger vid earlier this year that featured a Goober Burger? Basically a bacon cheeseburger with peanut butter. I was visually disgusted by this. These were foods that I love separately, but together should be an abomination. For who knows what reason, it stuck in my head so bad that I had to try it to see just how terrible it looked. Yeah, you can guess the result: Bacon cheeseburgers with peanut butter are DELICIOUS. I was floored. But it makes total sense why this particular sandwich works. You should definitely put a glob of PB on the next burger you have, you'll be surprised how well it works with that beef profile.

To me it worked well. What was standard peanut butter in 1957, I wonder? The sugary kind of Jif or Skippy they sell now? Or was it unsweetened and natural back then? I would guess the former. Now, if this were from a 1912 cookbook or something, I might strongly assume they intended natural PB.

That did NOT sound promising! Your brother-channel "Does it Peanut Butter" might have passed this by. I suspect this was concocted as a "most bang for the buck" protein bomb that the US Ag commish got sent as a way to use up surplus beef and the endless supply of peanut butter this country did and can still produce unto the end of time. (Not complaining! I probably have PB six times a week!). I of course would plus up in the heat direction... Tabasco perhaps. But then again.
