Pear & Freesia is my first sniff of the brand of Jo Malone which is very popular in the fragrance community. I came unimpressed with this one, hope to find one from the brand that will perhaps impress me in the future.

Definitely try Wood Sage and Sea Salt. Im so blown away i dont care about the subpar performance.

Ive found that the English Oak and Hazlenut and the English Pear and Freesia are some of my favorite scents. Aside from the muskier scents(masculine), I feel like the two I meantioned above are the only summer/Spring scents that I feel a man can wear. Every other one of their fragrances are far too feminine for me. A unisex line of fragrances but most of them smell more like a perfume. I love Pear and Freesia and the English Oak. I really liked the Mhyrr and Tonka but it smells identical to my Whispers in the Library by Replica. Thanks for the vid!

I’ve never even really tried a Jo Malone because I too have heard it’s meant for layering, and when I hear that I really hear “twice the price for half the fragrance.” Thanks for your take. I’m drawn to freesia and peony because I fell in love with Philosophy’s “Amazing Grace” and that is what really launched my (cringe) “fragrance journey.” I found my perfect note list: Ralph Lauren Midnight Romance, but, tragically, within ten minutes it dried down to generic table pepper like so many frags do.

I hate that one with all my heart. I had to wash my arm twice when I tried it. The lady at JoMalone told me it’s loved in the UK but hated where I live (in Spain). I thought it was funny!

Velvet Rose & Oud is a great one to try. Pear & Freesia is far more suitable for women I think. My mother wears this and it smells nice on her

This scent was the very first one I bought from their store in London - I got a candle and the house smelled amazing. Every single person complimented how great it was! - definitely not for guys. I’ve bought it for my mum and sisters and they all loved it.

For men I really recommend Wood Sage & Sea Salt as well as Lime Basil & Mandarin. My personal fave is Nectarine Blossom & Honey but it’s leaning on the fresh floral side so it’s a bit feminine for some guys. I guess you just have to try it out. I can REALLY tell you that the Nectarine one has nice longevity compared to the other offerings of the brand. From the intense line I recommend Myrrh & Tonka (nice as a mixer for fragrance layering) and my fave from the intense line is Velvet Rose & Oud. Kinda like a fresher version of Tom Ford’s Oud Fleur. Very realistic rose and nice Oud accord. It smells very round, yet interesting

Recommend to stay away from the brand. I knew I shouldn’t be expecting anything dark or complex from the brand, but even for single note freshies they are poorly made. Quality is bad. Their notes don’t smell authentic. Guerlain Aqua Allegoria and even Atelier Cologne can do much better scents.

I personally am a fan of this house and feel there are many great scents to be had here, even as a man, I particularly like both of their English Oak scents just to name a couple but there are quite a few more that I enjoy very much. I know traditionally this house has mainly marketed to the women but I feel that has changed over the last five years. The part of this video that I didn’t like though was you saying this fragrance pushes you away from this house. You, as a reviewer, especially being in the game as long as you have, cannot let one fragrance dictate your views of a whole house and also with your experience in the game and as a man could have picked a much better scent as your introduction to this house. Even the most basic of research could tell you that this would likely not be one that you would enjoy. Maybe try one of their offerings that is more unisex? Doesn’t even have to be a masculine one (they have those as well) but English Pear and Freesia? Clearly leaning heavily feminine and although it’s generally regarded as a good scent is clearly not one of their more celebrated offerings. I just feel you sold yourself short on this topic/brand. Unless there were other reasons behind the scenes or that aren’t obvious as to why you picked this one to start with? Maybe this review was biased? Who knows? All I know is, with your knowledge and experience in this game, is that your approach to your introduction to this house was a fail. If you genuinely wanted to like and explore this house and actually did your own research, this is not the scent you would have chose to roll with as your introduction. Which leads me to believe you are being well compensated and this review is not unbiased

it was a free sample from a big purchase as I stated in the video... compensated for a bad review well they didn't get their money worth did they? No ads? No mention of a coupon code or website? This is as authentic as a video can be part of my journey, not planned, not doing research just review what I get in the mail. Of course this is not the end of my journey with Jo Malone, but it's not a good start.

Hopefully you are able to explore this house more, they really do have some solid offerings. I’m by no means a fanboy. I just think it’s a shame this house tends to get overlooked.

jo malone is very flat and simple. that was the attraction to me. I think it's a fairly good brand if you are just getting into fragrances and don't want to get something that's overwhelming. the trade off is that it can be boring.

They are mostly pleasant but not interesting , longevity is often weak. For me overpriced at full retail - a brand for people who don’t like fragrance or as a safe middle class buy as a present. I have English oak and hazelnut it’s ok, like the entire line just ok

This brand is ridiciously overpriced. The scents don't last at all. Pear and Freesia lasted less then 3 hours on me. The only one I own from them is Wild Bluebell which is ok. If you are after nice pear I recommend Laskarina from Frapin. Much much better scent, both projection and lasting power.

Update: just got Oud and Bergamot. AMAZING. Performance is lacking, tho... but I reapplied a few times throughout the day, and it was WORTH IT. Man, it’s so good.
