Well the pear preserves are completed. This is how much preserves we got with 2 and a half 5 gallon buckets of pears. Okay with a neighbor lady's help she got 13 pint jars of pear preserves and we got 16 pint jars and 4 jars of pear syrup... the pear preserves are absolutely beautiful. Cant wait to put some on a hot buttered biscuit.🤗🥰 Thanks so much for the recipe. Even though my honey and I are Sr Citizens we are Newbies at canning!😉

I always like to get all my pears out of the tree the 1st weekend in August, around the 8th. There still a little hard, so when they hit the ground it will not hurt them. I also do not mow under the tree for a month before I shake them out, makes a nice soft pad for them to hit on. Then I sort them out to the ones ready to cann, and the ones in a few days, and so on till there all canned. Pears do not all ripen at same time so you got to wait. Usually by the 2nd weekend there repining fast, and the sugar level hits its peak in 6b area. Apples are usually ripping at the same time here, and you can shake them out a week early same as pears. If they ripen to much they will break or splatter when they fall and you lose a lot of pears. So shake them out early and put them in a cool place till ripen up. It wont take long and you do not haft to hurry and cann them.

Recipe and directions: Wash, peel, and then cut pears with an apple cutter. Place pears in a large pot. Add one quart (or one cup per quart for less sweet) of sugar for every two quarts of pears, to the top of the pot. Pour 1/2 cup lemon juice per 2.5 of gallon pears over top. Put the pot in the fridge overnight. Cook pears, stirring constantly until they turn amber and syrup slightly thickens (don't overcook). Heat up jars in 180 degree oven for 10 minutes. Add a cinnamon stick in each jar if you want. Pack pears in jars, then top with juice. Wipe rims, put on lids. Follow hot bath canning procedures and boil for 10 minutes

My mama says Frigidaire also. That’s what they learned to call every refrigerator... no matter the brand. Pear preserves are my favorite. I tried to make some one time and I over cooked and had a jar of concrete. 😂 Thanks for sharing. Also...the juice looks thin...does it thicken up some as it cools...like a thickened jelly? Now to go see if my pear tree is gonna produce. Where do y’all live?

Hello CCB with Marshall! We haven't made pear preserves in a loooong time so we looked at all the vids on YT. This is the *one* we chose to go by. The preserves are in the jar and we're waiting for the pot to boil to make pear jelly with the leftover juice. (The pint jar of preserves had to be topped off again as the resultant product was sampled by me with a spoon. Monstro delicious!) One 5 gal bucket made 4 and a half quarts.... Looking at 8 pints of jelly with a little left over for pear honey. GREAT and needed advice! Super thanks! Note for your fans: The slicker way to peel the hide off those nuclear bomb proof pears is to heat 'em up. Drop a half dozen or so into boiling water, wait a couple of minutes and then dunk 'em in a bowl of ice water. While you are peeling, have the next half dozen bubbling. You still have to peel, but it's easy. Doing it the old way is hard. Real hard. Use a round, cheap apple corer with the side handles on the peeled pears. Makes it crazy fast to chunk 'em out. Side note. My father died before home video, but I did manage to audio tape his recollections aboard ship in the Pacific theater in WWII. This served as the nucleus for a whopping website I made dedicated to him and his shipmates. I wouldn't take ANYTHING for those recordings. Ya done good by making this video. You'll see that more in times to come. Your bestest fan from Alabam, Norm

@OvGraphics

Never knew the name of our pears. Country Boy says Bradford, so I'll go with that. No need for pectin for pear preserves....but you'll need it if you decide to do pear jelly with the leftover liquid, of which there will be lots. We dumped a 10LB sack of sugar in the stock pot which was about 4/5ths full after all was said and done. One 5 gallon bucket of pears made 4 and a half quarts.
