I have this drum! Bought mine in 1992 and used it as my main live snare drum from about 1995-2001, before going back to a 14". I still love this drum, and like yours, my air hole grommet fell out. I've never had any issues with it, and i also have the matching 3x13" piccolo. :)

they are really great drums, apart from that grommet. never played the smaller one though

@@DaveBatemansShed I contacted Pearl and they said the correct replacement grommet is the AH01. All of $3, I've already ordered one.

Great video man. Looked soprano snares up because one of the most famous examples was in heavy music in the Progression through unlearning album by Snapcase, especially the song Caboose. Sounds fantastic with higher tension.

I still have mine. Bought in 1992 along with a Pearl BLX that I still have in Sheer Blue. The only downside is cross sticking, but other than that, it's great.

Anyone owning this drum, should check the original factory fitted snare wires,on my mid 90s one ,the wires were too long and the end plates on the wires touched the shell on both sides,causing a nasty over ring of the wires,and i could never get it to sound right,12" gibralter 16 strand wires were fitted, perfect..( there is now a proper gap between end plated an the shell.And now it plays like it should.

Hi Dave,ive had my one since early 90s and only used it cranked up high for a couple of funky tracks,but any attempt to use it in a med or low tuning caused an after ring of the wires,its like Pearl never allowed for the thickness of the shell,and used wires that were for a thin/ normal shell, (Pearls Quality is never in doubt usually )as the plates hit the shell if pulled tight,the el cheapo gibraltar 16 strands are shorter in length, and sit within the shell like a normal set up,also ive tried,amb x, evans ec2 frosted,aquarian,evans g 2, but Remo powerstroke 3 is my preference on this drum,normally i prefer evans,or aquarian heads.

@@DaveBatemansShed I have the exact drum ! LOVE IT ! Tune the top to 340 and the bottom to 230 on tunebot ....... Great crack with loads of body .......Love that snare !!!
