A film of an online lecture tracking the extensive use of mother of pearl, ivory and horn in making handles tor Sheffield cutlery in the 19th and 20th centuries. The variety of products and the skills to make them is explored but the decline and disappearance of the companies involved is also sadly tracked . The lecture was originally given by Nick Duggan on 13 April 2022.
The impact of the huge quantities of pearl, ivory and horn used in the processes is also acknowledged
The film was developed as part of the Name on the Knife Blade Project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
