Pearl Jam is one of my favourite bands of all time and the fact that they are still together and playing 2/3 hour concerts to this day says it all. Eddie Vedder just turned 60 and still got a great voice and energy.

Hey guys, I must admit a small piece of my heart died when you both seemed to have no idea who Pearl Jam were. Haha. Such a great, great band and that voice you were both loving is Eddie Vedder, one of the best rock voices of all time. Love the chill vibes though and I hope you guys have a great New Year! 🙌

Great reaction ❤️ The line towards the end “I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life, I know you’ll be a star, in somebody else’s sky, but why oh why can’t it be mine!?” Always makes me tear up cause of the passion in his voice when he sings it. Awesome song. Next please start the Nightwish journey if you haven’t heard them before they’re well worth it.

I'll echo what other people have said and suggest that you should def give the lyrics a look on this one bc they're gorgeous and devastating and take the song to another level (especially the middle bit about being "a star in somebody else's sky"). But here's what the singer, Eddie Vedder, has said the song is about: "It's about first relationships. The song is about letting go. It's very rare for a relationship to withstand the Earth's gravitational pull and where it's going to take people and how they're going to grow. I've heard it said that you can't really have a true love unless it was a love unrequited. It's a harsh one, because then your truest one is the one you can't have forever." He wrote the song based on a real person and a real experience he had and it's so personal and painful that the band actually refused the record company's request to release it as a single, fearing that turning it into a music video would diminish the emotional weight of it. Vedder stated that "fragile songs get crushed by the business. I don't want to be a part of it. I don't think the band wants to be part of it." He even personally called radio station managers to make sure Epic had not released the song as a single against his wishes. In spite of this, the song charted at number three on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and number 20 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in 1993. Most bands would be stoked if ANY song of theirs gained traction and got airplay but, with this song, Pearl Jam was like, "Nah. This is some real ish. Leave this one alone." Can you imagine how surreal it must be then to get up on a stage night after night and relive the feelings that inspired the song while giant crowds of people cheer your pain? Life is so strange sometimes. But, that being said, this is one of those songs that really is just a beautiful little piece of art and this performance is so passionate and real, you can see why it's resonated with so many people. Also, Eddie had bronchitis that night, so the fact that he pulled this off while sick also somehow elevates how great it is.

This song (and band) takes me back 30+ yrs every single time … This, my friends, was the grunge rock era.. Pearl Jam had so many hits! Jeremy, Evenflow, Alive and sooooo many others. Because a lot of people have trouble deciphering Eddie’s lyrics, consider opening up a separate window with the lyrics. Grunge was more able the visceral feeling and emotion they put into their music. If you like Pearl Jam, I think you’ll also love Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Temple of the Dog and Soundgarden.❤

While I don't want to risk sounding like one of those "old heads", I was in my twenties during the 90's and it truly was an amazing time for music. Alternative, Grunge and Hip-hop were breaking so much new ground. It just felt like it MEANT more. That's why I've been so excited to see new artists like Ren and Chinchilla. So much talent, style and the substance to match. I've enjoyed watching you both experience new music as well as some old. I must admit that I envy your position of hearing some of my favorite music for the first time. If I could make a suggestion, you might want to try a song called Crank by the band Catherine Wheel. I think you guys would dig it.

Oooh! You should check out all the MTV Unplugged series from Pearl jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots in the grunge era of the early - mid ‘90s. What a time it was to be alive! I think Pearl Jam could be defined with passion. Eddie is an amazing vocalist and really puts alot of himself into his songs. This song is basically a break up song. Pretty much alot of people's break up song in the 90s. Checkout Alive, Even Flow, Release, or Given to Fly. Honestly almost any song is a good choice

They came out the same time as Nirvana and led the Grunge movement that killed the Glam Bands. I had the honor of seeing them live a few times. While some from Gen X consider Kurt the voice of our generation, I've always felt that Eddie was the true voice of my generation. Please check out Pearl Jam's catalog as well as Eddie singing with Chris Cornell on Hunger Strike (amazing).

@DoubleTakeJC THIS 💯 The album "TEN" by Pearl Jam also albums by Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains killed the hair metal groups from the 80's! (Even though there is TONS of great music there too!) So so so so want you guys to start getting into some 90's alternative music! ❤ #DoubleTakers (Hopefully it starts with "Zombie" by The Cranberries in this week's music tournament! No looking back after that!) ❤ #DoubleTakers

It's about a breakup. Specifically that first love when you just grow apart and have to let go. She broke him, and it turned his world black. "Tattoed black" as in - permanently ruined. Update, they did end up getting married.. and divorced again after 6 years
