The fact that you think cellphones have to do with the slag we let pass for music in this generation is fascinating to me. Not in a way where I think you're educational or worth even having a conversation with, but in the same way that a genetically altered rat might be fascinating to study from behind a glass window.

This show was amazing and I was lucky enough to see it live. When Eddie falls off the wall into the crowd I'm in the middle of that group. My sister is the one person who turns around and looks right at the camera. This concert and band was an incredible experience that I've often described as a "Revival". They opened the show with "Release" and everyone had their hands in the air like he was singing the gospel. As many have said the 90's was an amazing time for music....Pearl jam, AIC, Soundgarden, etc.

This brings back memories. I was in my early 20's when this song and this group broke out. It was an amazing time for music. The songs and singers were just so full of passion and you could feel it when they performed. Another group from this time was 'Stone Temple Pilots'. The lead singer Scott Weiland was fantastic. Their songs and music great. No cell phones anywhere to be seen. A simpler time.

As a college student during that time, i reflect on how free we felt at concerts. It was just the band, instruments, amps, and some lightning that had all the energy we needed. Now, it’s kinda sad to see some artists who rely on backup dancers, auto-tune, hired touring bands, and people who don’t even pay attention during shows because they are constantly on their phones. Some people I’ve seen didn’t even know who the band is. It’s sad.

Pearl Jam came to Australia for the first time when I was 24, with their second album. I rushed to get tickets, literally running to a ticketshop for 20 mins when I heard they were available. I bought my tickets, paying my money to the cashier and then the announcement that they were sold out blared out from one of the staff. I froze thinking I had missed out then the machine started printing them and I had gotten the very last tickets. I was so happy, I had been a fan for years. Loved seeing them so much and got a new job that day after a lengthy period of being unemployed. Happy days.

“No cell phones.” Yep. We are so concerned today with recording what happens we forget to experience it in the now as it is happening. When we replay it later in an effort to experience it the replay at best feels like a cheap copy, and yet we wonder why our lives feel so empty even though we record and “miss” nothing. I think the reason the 90's were so good when it comes to music is that it is the last decade where music was not effected by computers. People still had to play their instruments and we got our feelings out through our music and not on Twitter. We also saw and fought against the materialism that was taking over our country but unfortunately with the generation after us, the Kardashians won. The combination of the internet and reality TV took over and music and culture will never be as good as it used to be.

The reason why Grunge is so important to the music today is because when it came on the 'scene', that was the pivotal moment when rock was instantly changed from the "pretty" almost effeminate big arena soft male vocal hair band era to the gritty sung lyrics that were shouted out and sung with passion. Grunge addressed real issues like death (Say Hello To Heaven, Temple of the Dog), school shootings (Jeremy, Pearl Jam), Homelessness (Spoon Man, Temple of the Dog), War Vets (Rooster, Alice In Chains)...etc. Real things that effect and help shape peoples lives, lyrics that were sung with a genuine convenience by voices filled with passion, hard truths, and rage at the hard situations of life. Above all else is was genuine and something that everyone could easily easily relate to. The songs of reality that was Grunge spread like a wave across all genres of music at that time, from pop to rap, making artists realize that it was okay to be gritty, have controversial lyrics, and to sing truthfully about the hardships of life and how it shapes us. That's when rap really started to get it's own grittiness, conveying street issues with that realism and reality of the hardships of life. For rock it cut out that fru-fru BS of, like I stated above, the "pretty" almost effeminate big arena soft male vocal hair ban era. The result was that rock got harder, gritter, and more genuinely truthful.

There definitely was heavier music back in the day like Sabbath but the 90s music was totally its own style! 90s grunge was unique and you don’t hear too many current bands with that sound. Each generation and each decade especially since the electric guitar was invented has some really incredible music and the best musicians always take some influence from older style music.

Born in Seattle and still live just north of it. I know it sounds bias but I've been all over this country and there definitely is a unique essence of spirituality in this area that manifests in the music.......well at least up until not too recently. Pat Simmons (Doobie Brothers), Jimi Hendrix, Heart, of course Nirvana, Screaming Trees Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden , Kenny Loggins, Queenryche, Candlebox, Foo Fighters, Temple of the Dog, Presidents of the United States of America, Duff McKagan (Guns&Roses, Modest Mouse, Death Cab for Cutie, Mad Season, hell even White Lion from the 80's and many many more. Even artists that I don't find too savoury such as Macklemore, Kenny G (who at least plays music for real as opposed to the aforementioned), Cypress Hill (Whitey Ford), etc.. Also many that choose to live here because of the environment Dave Mathews, Steve Miller (Whom I believe has since moved to Idaho) and many others. I guess all I'm saying is it makes you feel pretty cool vicariously to hail from the same region. The main thing is keep rocking no matter where you're from and pass the good shit on to the young ones. The corporate conglomerate is just fine with endorsing empty, talentless so called music for the sake of saled. Its up to us to right this ship and inform our youth of these wrongs and help build a better future not just in the music industry but all aspects of life. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now.

The "Seattle Sound" era '91-'95 was my favorite era. It was just as 80's glam metal was fading out. Virtually all rock music was based out of L.A. for decades until Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and others all came out of Seattle area at around the same time and it exploded. It was sometimes referred to as "Grunge". It was all about flannel shirts and doc Martin boots. Nothing flashy. The era died quickly because once mall's and stores like Macys started selling "grunge" wear, it had become mainstream. Most of those bands were not about commercialism. Pearl jam still puts out great albums even without much airplay.

Pearl Jam started out in Tempe, Arizona and they were named after their Grandma Pearls jam.

No dancers, no elaborate stage, no costume changes. The music is all that matters. I've always like the line "Thoughts arrived like butterflies" from this song.

Growing up still young in the 70's I loved that genre of music, then came the early 80's when I hit my teens and all the generic hairband shit was hot. I spent most of my teenage years listening to older musicians without all the makeup and hairspray, then one day on MTV they played a never heard of band called Pearl Jam and I knew rock and roll was saved.

All live footage is great. Eddie’s a beast. All kinds of surprises. Rules be damned.

Another amazing reaction , thank you Jamel! It’s funny to be “ older now” and see the nineties grunge look come back in . I see all these bands on tshirts that the kids are wearing as a fashion statement . I’m like I was your age back then and lived it . So cool! Flannel, ripped jeans and Doc Martins

Eddie Vedder is one of my all time favorite singers and Pearl Jam was perfection.
