This is god level. Imagine being at this as a fan, getting the shock of your life that a) Matt Cameron couldn’t play that night, and b) Josh K was the replacement AND this accomplished a drummer (or a drummer at all). I mean, I get that lotsa musicians are multi-instrumentalists and can turn their hand to keys, guitar etc, but for someone to be THIS good a drummer while “undercover” and not really known for it is humbling to watch. Unbelievable and awe inspiring. You have to wonder if something is in the works with Josh.

I've always thought that Abruzzese was the best drummer they ever got. Cameron is a better fit for Soundgarden in my humble opinion. Josh here killed it. He could step in full time if needed. The Peppers did him dirty; I am sure that if something happened to Frusciante (God forbids) Flea would be on the phone like "hey Josh uh, how you doing bro? Lol"

I absolutely love Matt Cameron on Soundgarden! But indeed when playing some Pearl Jam songs, especially the older ones (originally recorded by other drummers), he often tends to "straighten out" their beats which in my opinion makes them less groovy and less nice. (Yes I'm an Abbruzzese widow)

Agree that Dave A is probably technically 'better', but definitely subjective as to who is better for PJ. Both look cool while they are playing (Josh not so much). I like Dave's playing better on the stuff that he played on originally and even the first album stuff, but Matt has brought his own style to the band and has written numerous tracks. 'You Are' is one of them and rhythmically one of the most dynamic tracks that PJ plays live. Hard for Dave A to put Matt Cam to shame since he hasn't played in a significant band in 27 years and Matt C has been in Pearl Jam for like 8 times longer than he was! I think Matt wins hands down on the career credibility contest, he's played with the best and continues to, and has netted $70 million along the way. By all accounts he is more likeable as well, which means a lot when you are hoping to stay in a band.

@@802asher Dave A fits in way better with the earlier stuff. Everything after is just different music. Jack Irons albums are also distinctive as well. Matt is an awesome drummer and its tough to come into a band that is already very established (good luck if the foo fighters want to go on) but I think Matts mark was made on Soundgarden. To me his fit in PJ has always been sort of forced. I'm sure his likeability and Northwest roots make him a perfect fit. As a guy that plays the drums, I just don't get the "feel" I get when listening back to the shows I heard and saw as kid in high school. The Who is different after Keith Moon. Rush is not Rush without Peart. Toto not the same after Jeff Porcaro. Bonzo and Led Zepplin. Watts and the Stones. Sadly Hawkins and the foo fighters. There are many other examples. I'm not saying Dave A is any of those guys because they are legends but he was with them in their salad days and helped propel the band into a massive force during probably the last great rock revival. Matt was there too and made his mark, just with another band with a different sound. The videos are on here. Check out the shows before 95. They are hungry but the force behind the kit is undeniable. Just my two cents.
