Great review, I saw both films. Seeing Pearl's backstory, she could have left the farm, but she had nowhere else to go sadly. Pearl did said she's glad she got a miscarriage showing she was so selfish and didn't want to be a mother. As for the audition, she was talented, but got rejected unfairly. Those judges that rejected her were very shallow. 'They wanted young, blonde and all American girl.' Those where their words. She could have left her home anyway and find another audition where judges can accept her for her talent. Howard played the part of Pearl's breaking point and murderous rage. He came from a wealthy family, but chose to want to live a simple life. When he came home from the war, he saw what his wife has become. He went along with his wife maybe out of guilt for leaving her when he went out to the war and for choosing to live a simple life instead of a wealthy life that Pearl wanted to have. At the end of the movie Pearl, she was smiling but we see her tears coming out of her eyes. They spent decades murdering people. Seeing the movie X, Pearl now a very old woman shown that she hasn't let go of her past and still wanted to be a star. She continued going on a killing spree. Pearl became a cautionary tale.

Not wanting to be a mother doesnt mean she was selfish. She says in the monologue she disliked her pregnancy because life itself was terryfying to her, not because she hated children or anything like that. She was a young woman who wanted a life on her own first and foremost.

*imo* , because x only gets "better" after watching pearl, shows that if X without pearl never existing, kinda solidifies that x as a standalone film isn't very great

I respectfully disagree. Pearl making X better doesn't imply X went from bad or mediocre to good. Both films are good in their own right but its the way they compliment each other that makes them stand out

@@robby7499Have you noticed that there are no modern interviews with director Ron Howard on the Grinch. He’s not even credited as the director of the Grinch in his Masterclass trailer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5TWoWylbtKcd9k He said that the Chuck Jones version is such a phenomenal classic that they didn’t even attempt to copy it because they can’t compete. That gives me the impression that he didn’t want his version to be popular and that he wishes that the Chuck Jones version was still a household name. The problem was that Jim Carrey was not about to let his career go downhill so embraced his costume 🩱 in order to be as memorable as possible. That’s why people keep watching it but I believe that Ron Howard is ashamed of what he’s done ✔️ to Seuss’ legacy. I wish that people would stop 🛑 talking about that Grinch and just stick 🦯 to Carrey and Howard’s great 👍 work, for example Ron Howard: Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind 🤩 (to name a few) Jim Carrey: The Mask 😷, Liar Liar 🤥, The Truman Show (again to name a few)
