Nice demonstration and video. As a Reference owner, I still prefer the original Reference series but the Pure series sounds wonderful too. The birch in the smaller toms does add a beautiful cut, especially when you hit off the rim. The natural wood finish on the demo kit looks great. I prefer the original Reference lugs but I know that many love the Pure lugs. The hardware overall on these kits is phenomenal. I've also thought that Pearl makes the best hardware.

Nick, I always look forward to your video reviews! And I've been curious, how are you typically miking these kits for the reviews? Is it just a simple overhead setup, or maybe something in the front? Thanks!

probably a clear emperor of some sort, I use vintage emperors on my snare since they are a little thicker

Great playing, great hardware, amazing cymbals. I for whatever reason cannot like these drums. I just don't like the sound. I can see why Joey triggers these.

The kick and the snare are fine. But the toms sound papery and thin. A lot of Pearl kits sound like this

I usually hate Pearl. But this is one of their only acceptable kits. Nothing can beat Gretsch though.

I would NEVER EVER pay what Pearl's msrp. Or even a $800 discount for this kit. Nick is as solid a player as they come. But for the money Gretsch's Catalins club 5 piece properly tune with the proper heads sounds much better and with the extra money you save you can buy the symbols that you've always wanted. This is just my opinion. And no but not a die-hard Gretsch fan.
@pescalante26 жыл бұрын
Jetty1502 going to ignore your comment and you as a drummer since you call them symbols and not cymbals. I hate Pearl drums but still a Catalina Club can’t come close to any high end drum kit

With all due respect what are you even talking about these drums sound fabulous and this gentleman playing the demo is a great drummer and if I understand correctly he sets up all these drums turns them up just a variety of different heads depending on what kit he is doing a demo for and again I have to say these toms sound awesome

Im a huge Pearl fan but the reference like DW drums are highly overrated. Tuey dont sounds as good as they should and they don't look that nice based on this natural finish in this video.

Just listened to a video of pearl exports. Sound almost the same. Save yourself 5 grand maybe?
@becomingaware89917 жыл бұрын
Every video you guys make, you never put the right skins on to accent the drums, and never tune the snare high enough, for for instance, look at the difference between your review of the dw mini pro and memphis drum shop. kits sound completly different in both vids. I think you would sell more with the right skins and tuning. Snare and kick sound okay in this one, but the toms are a bit ringy and tuned maybe a tiny bit too high.
