Seriously guys, what is your recording setup? It can't be just overheads, can it? There's too much of clear sounding everything. At any rate, I love your approach to demoing these drums, sound wise. Very natural and lifelike. Keep 'em coming! Also: Absolute props to Patrik. What a drummer!

Thank you! We use only two overhead microphones and two room microphones. No mixing, no postproduction.

eDWICHt... Check out all the channels who use close mic's. Most of them suck big time. Couple of overheads wins every time.

Can you do a Pearl Reference review video? All I see are Reference Pure kits.

Has anyone recorded with these kits? I'm curious if the change in woods wreaks havoc on engineers.

Many thanks for the wonderful sound recordings! Really enjoy your playing! I think this snare drum blends perfectly with this kit. What kind of snare is it?

I have one of these kits in rare sizes and i can say for sure these drums really resonate. The 16 floor tom will decay for minutes actually to long if tuned equal. I tune bottom and top a third apart and put a moon gel on the bottom head and it sounds thunderous. My 24x16 bass drum just plain kills...my masters series drums (Maple) sound great to nut much different than these. The pure series are rich, full, resonant and very classy sounding. My Maples are just plain in your face and loud...the problem is sometimes i WANT BOTH! Looking at the SSS series now...they look very interesting with mahogany inside and outside and birch in the middle...i like that combination a lot, but where are the sound sample other that Nick D from sweetwater.

Hey man, need your help. I'm torn. I've narrowed down my selection for my next kit to a Tama Star Walnut or Pearl Reference pure. I've never played anything but these two companies. My infastructre is Pearl i.e. rack, cymbal stands, etc but I'm contemplating what the change would require to switch to all new tom holders for the Tama kit rather than just sitcking with Pearl. After comparing both side by side courtesy of this channel, I'm actually more excited about the Pearl Reference Pure but concerned that the difference in wood types if I took out pieces from my 7 piece kit down to a 4 to gig wouldn't vibe because of the change in shell types. Any thoughts?

Greg Judd wow infrastructure is always a consideration for sure. The pure series uses very thin shells that resonate forever if that’s what you like. I tune the bottom head tighter to instigate a pitch dive and utilize remo rings on top to tame the resonance. The rams drums would be if a cutting sound versus the pearls I think. The difference in wood choices is critical for recording versus cutting through a mix. I can say that head choice on these pearls is gigantic for the type of sound you get but they all resonate very well. I’m currently using a Evans uv1 on top and they are extremely durable head but do present a darker tone than say a G2 coated. The best head I’ve heard in my drums are easily remo Coates ambassador but the trade off is durability. Seems you have a high quality problem. Bottom line for primarily touring go tama. For recording, home practice and flexibility go pearl.

Go red. I love the purple too but the red being a hair brighter will look better even in the shade where i think the purple might start to look closer to black. Under lights purple would be sick tho.

Pls I need help with toms how do you make your toms sound like that without muffling them
@zhongxina84265 жыл бұрын
my best bet is to match the pitches of the top and bottom head or set the bottom head to a slightly higher pitch than the top. if that still doesnt work, muffling is gonna be your best friend trust me.
