Dig it!! I currently own a few different drum kits and one of them happens to be a Tama star classic B/B with 24,8,10,13,14,16,18 and Being that I own this drum kit also 24,8,10,13,16,18 I must say these drums are much fatter, warmer and beefier then my Tama B/B. Out of all the drum companies that mix Birch with a darker wood such as walnut or bubinga, Pearl seems to have nailed it with mahogany. They compliment each other very well and the drums still have that cut that birch is known for but they are much fatter, warmer, and buttery. Where as the Mapex Saturn birch/walnut or my Tama's still have a lot of cut but not as much warmth and don't have that buttery feel and fatness. Then you throw in the 60゚ bearing edge and it almost starts behaving like a gretsch kit as far tunability. Pearl definitely hit it out of the park on these.

Nathan Walsh thanks for this comment! You helped me narrow down my search for a new kit. I'm trying to decide between this or a DW Design.

Thanks for sharing your review between the pearl sessions and the Tama BB kits.There is a misconception that the Tama sound better and are built better.I think in this price range the pearl are pretty hard to beat.I own a 6 piece pearl reference kit.The floor toms,and bass drum with the mix of maple and mahogany are unbelievable. Been thinking about getting a 3 piece session kit with the 14x24,9x13 and 16x16. I think it would be a great addition to my collection.

@@davidsuprenant893 Those older maple/mahogany (luan?) Sessions are also fantastic. I played one of those on some gig and it's one of the best sounding kits I played.

Hi there. this shell pack sounds really good. if ill go for it it would be the 5/6 piece kit and add a snare...but i got a question, how would you compare it with the TAMA hyper drive 5 piece (not duo ) or the PDP concept maple 7 piece kit sound wise.....????

My session studio select drums came stock with Remo pinstripe batter and thin, clear (Chinese made) Remo resonant heads. What's the reason for the Evans's heads? Did the drums for this video come with Evans's heads?
@dogmart5 жыл бұрын
I think DrumCenter Cz often uses Remo or Evans single ply coated heads so that we all can hear the drums with better-quality heads on the drums. The Chinese-made Remo heads are fairly awful in comparison to livelier single-ply pro-heads.

But can that kick sound as big as the concept maple classics?
@ceccolandi47595 жыл бұрын
how did you record the drums? i can see no mics..only overheads?
@bgnPrinceton3 жыл бұрын
They've mentioned in other videos that all they use are two overhead mics and two room mics. Seems to me the room is really 'dead' for the drums to sound so clear.

Nice playing but it sounds like there's a drum missing between mounted and floor toms.

That's always case if you have 16" floor tom after 10" and 12"
@aarthoor4 жыл бұрын
@@ivanbajovic3476 That's why we used to have a 13" But they stopped selling them like that for some reason....
@ivanbajovic34764 жыл бұрын
@@aarthoor Maybe because is too heavy for tom holders. My favorite sizes are 10" 12" 14" 16" . You have everything in those 4. For all styles of music
@aarthoor4 жыл бұрын
@@ivanbajovic3476 Those are good sizes for sure. My point is that they always give a 10,12,16 configuration which is too much of a drop. Are 13 too heavy? I doubt it, I think it might simply be a cosmetic thing with the smaller drums looking cooler on the bass drum that what we had back in the 80's!

The recent discontinued THICKER shells sound BETTER. Especially the kick, but the toms are even better IMO. Listen right here : kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2bZo2qcopWFlck

You may be right...Maybe it's the tuning as well, but I do find the overall sound of the toms more pleasing in the other video...They might even be a bit louder too...Thanks for sharing 😃
