@NURSEJAR
@NURSEJAR 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Linda! Because you will verbalize "washing hands" after completing each skill, it is not necessary for you to do so before performing this skill, unless the NAE directs you to do so. I train my students to perform the opening procedures before each skill because it will be easier for them to transition from doing it this way to only doing it once. Good luck on your exam! Let me know how you do.

Good morning Ms. Julie, I have a question. I live in AZ and I read that we have to use a towel instead of a paper towel. I know it's the rule for AZ, but I was wondering what your thoughts are as far as what would be the better choice? Paper towel or towel? I value your opinion. Thank you,-Jera

Hi, Nijera! Sorry for responding so late. In a real life situation, I would most likely use a cloth towel to line the sink,. Because dentures can be easily cracked or broken, the cloth towel will add more cushion and padding if the dentures were to slip out of the person's hands.

Hi Julie. For this skill and for hand hygiene skill, do I have to do the opening procedure for the client or can I go straight to performing the skill? Thank you! My exam is tomorrow and I’m binge watching your videos. They’re all very helpful.

Hi, Yankee! Thank you and good luck on your exam! It really all depends on what the NAE instructs you to do. He or she may have you to address the client and introduce yourself once before the first bedside skill or they may instruct you to do this before each individual bedside skill. So, you really have to go by what the NAE instructs you to do. You may want to watch my videos on transitioning from one skill to the next during testing. Viewing them may be of help to you. Let me know how you do on your exam. What state will you be testing in?

Hi Miss Julie, Is it ok to turn the water off with my gloves still on, or should I turn the water off without my gloves on and a clean paper towel? Thank you
@NURSEJAR
@NURSEJAR 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Angela! You'll want to keep your gloves on until you have disposed of everything. Now, if you want to bring an extra pair of gloves with you to change, you can. But, that's only wasting your time, as it is not necessary to do so, nor required.

Thanks julie but i dont know why my teacher said that to dont watch the skills on KZbin even for Texas and im confuse😔😔 your skills seem very easy for me to understand particularly the 1 skill to wash the hands which is completely different from her, so i don't know 😔

@@emeraudeemeraude3emeraude148 Hi, Emeraude! I can understand where your instructor is coming from, as I use to tell my students the same until I started creating and producing my own videos. A lot of times, videos on KZbin are not exact to a specific state's skills steps. And, a lot of times, the person performing in the video is not performing the skill correctly. So, I do understand why your instructor tells you not to watch videos on KZbin!!! However, I train my students in the exact manner as I am demonstrating in my videos. For the past umpteen years, my students have and continue to receive a FIRST-TIME PASS on their state Nurse Aide Certification Exam.

Thanks again for ur answer julie. I would like to explain myself clearly, the skills suppose to be the same way or it just to be well done depending of the instructor ? For example the skill of the knee and ankle i saw my instructor add some movements like abduction/extinction/flexion at the same moment of skill but you in one of ur video its just the one mouvement by touching the knee and ankle that is it, its why im saying that your skills here are so easy to remember for me, so i dont know if the law state recently have change some skills after ur video, i dont know if u get my point 😔😔😔

@@emeraudeemeraude3emeraude148 Hi, Emeraude! The NNAAP made changes to the CEP in March of 2018. These changes became effective in July of 2018. If you are referring to the Passive Range of Motion Skills (Provides PROM for One Shoulder and Provides PROM for One Knee & One Ankle), both of these skills require the candidate to perform 2 (two) exercises for each skill. For PROM for One Shoulder, you will perform the two exercises, Abduction & Adduction and Flexion & Extension. For PROM for One Knee & One Ankle, you will perform the two exercises, Flexion & Extension and Dorsiflexion & Plantarflexion. In both of my videos where I demonstrate these skills, I performed the 2 (two) exercises for each of these skills. Now, of course, I cannot comment on how or what your instructor is training you, because I am not there to see! You're best bet would be to study your Nurse Aide Candidate Handbook and practice performing the skills as such. If you were not given a candidate handbook by your training site or instructor, you may always download a handbook at www.PearsonVue.com My video demonstrations are based on Pearson Vue's Nurse Aide Candidate Handbook for the state of Texas. Hope I cleared things up for you!

Ms.julie,I failed my skills a week ago. I'm retaking it on January 19th. I hope I pass for the second try. I've been practicing a lot (everyday all 22 skills) i was so nervous and forgot to check the lock of the wheels of the bed. I vebalized it but didn't realize that it wasn't locked. That's a big No No... Hand washing weight measurement Bed bath Donning the gown and gloves Stocking. I guess I'm not prepared yet and got nervous the whole entire test. I'm re reading my booklet and books to get familiar with the steps. Then I watched cna videos over and over. Do you suggest to practice the actual skills over and over?I kind of what to familiarize with the steps first since I know all the supplies that I need for each skills. I work full time and practicing at work on my break time . I made my self a mannequin made of old blankets and protective pads and put them all together with a duck tape lol. I want to pass so badly.😭

Hi, Grace! Sorry to hear about your Skills Exam results. Yes, not checking and/or locking the bed brakes is a huge "SAFETY" issue. You can't simulate anything! You must actually do it! Yes, the more hands-on practice you can accomplish, the better. Just don't stress yourself out. Take a break...a day or two...from practicing and reviewing. You'll do fine the second time around.

See I’m confused bc included in the steps my instructor gave me it says to actually remove the dentures from the residents mouth and then to put them back in the residence mouth when the cleaning is complete @nursejar but your steps are much much easier and less time consuming
@NURSEJAR
@NURSEJAR 2 ай бұрын
Hi, Blake! For testing, the denture will not be in the acting resident's mouth! It sounds like your instructor is teaching you how to perform this task in real life, not for testing.

Hi Nurse Jar I'm going to be testing soon in CA And we do use Pearson Vue my clinical instructor was saying all kind of weird things such as if we don't do this skill it in the exact steps that Pearson Vue wrote it in the manual that we would fail? You made it look so simple! She made me do it twice and said we had to use cold water and had to check the name of the dentures with the patient and to use a paper towels to turn on the faucet But none of that was said in the manual I will be honest during my first practice run, I did forget to rinse the lid. Would that qualify for a fail?
@NURSEJAR
@NURSEJAR 3 жыл бұрын
Ho, Stephanie! Forgetting not to rinse the lid of the denture cup in itself will not fail you. But, you have to remember the 5 Indirect Care Skills. Not rinsing the lid is part of Infection Control. So, if you have more issues with IC, it will heighten your risk for failing due to this Indirect Care Skill.

Do you have to wash your hands before starting this skill or it’s just putting on clean gloves before performing this skill?

Hi, Tiara! You do not need to wash hands before performing the skill, as you verbalize "washing hands" after completing skills.
