Make a simple John innes mix if stuck it’s only loam base (suppose cheap bagged soil for example) mixed with sand and a ample amount of horn and hoof(fish blood and bone will do instead if horn and hoof not available ) super phosphate and potassium sulphate and you have a great mix just google ratio for better info.. stay away from green waste compost think about it everyone put grass food waste and pet waste and I don’t want dog cat or whatever poop in my soil ✌️😎

Certainly seems the best of the one's you've reviewed so far! Looking forward to the seed test when it's time for that

Levington was always considered to be one of the best commercial composts.

Just bought some at Tesco. £5 for 1 or £8 for 2. 40L bags so pretty good value.

a moisture test in the summer will tell a completely different story, ross. the compost doesn't retain enough moisture. a problem i've found is some companies don;t state the use of green waste................brian

I can’t get on with this peat free compost. It dries out so quickly. Sometimes having to water pots twice a day as the ‘compost’ does not retain the water and runs straight out the bottom. Even putting a saucer underneath the pot does nothing as the compost does not soak it up where peat compost would. How this is more environmentally friendly to use peat free compost, I do not know as I am having to use more water. Water, which is a scarce commodity.

I'm all for the peatfree movement but I must agree with you, currently it's not working. Sadly.

Yeah I definitely wouldn’t be growing in any of them. And that’s not mound on the soil that’s mycelium and it’s actually a good thing

Bought Levington yesterday. Woodcuttings and woodchips. Very little soil.

I agree. Trying to grow some seeds from scratch and feel I am just pushing little seeds in amongst a load of tiny twigs. I then opened a bag of compost with peat in it and the difference between the two is astonishing.

That might not be plastic, i bought yesterday, found some little pipes seems, thought of plastic. But when i cut with knife it was very plain wood with black color on it.. Not sure, but it might possibly the same case with you.

Can we directly grow seeds/plants in the compost, as i am beginner I just ordered seeds/compost/pots only yesterday . Am i missing something like soil/dirt/mud/sand ? I just want to grow carrots/tomatoes. Thanks.

Soil is Earth. (Dirt) the gritty minerals in the Top Soil. Compost is organic matter that's been composted. Seeds will grow in both. But it's easier to start them in compost, in my opinion. Put an inch of compost on top of your earth/soil. Sprinkle your carrot seeds. See how you get on. 👍

It’s almost impossible to find good compost in the UK and it’s about to become impossible once they ban peat 😒

How much did you pay for the levington? I'm sure I saw it at £5 a bag in Tesco the other day.

@@markjefferson7492yep it’s hard to find good compost as it is but once they ban peat we’re well and truly buggered, particularly organic growers
