An overview of the replacement of the electrolytic capacitors in my 1977 Peavey 400 BASS amp.

i have the 800 series for guitar with the matching 4x12 scorpion cab @ 4ohms. had no foot switch or reverb, i just started working on it.

any chance you have a list of all the cap values you changed? i was hoping i can just punch them all into mouser or digikey if you happen to have a list or a BOM saved. im having the same issues with bleedover as you described.. thank you!

Maybe, I might have some notes. I know I used a lot of caps that I already had in my spares box, and I ordered some from Mouser. I can check on that for you. If I find it, then I'll post a list of components in the description.

i bought one today with a Basson B15B for $100. I had to drive 80 miles to get it tho.

That's an excellent deal! Good score! A little road trip once in a while to go get a piece of gear can be fun. I once drove 120 miles one way to get a left hand Schecter bass for $100. With the time and gas money spent I probably broke even over finding one locally, but lefty basses don't come up for sale often and I really didn't have anything better to do that day anyways. Rock on, and enjoy your "new" amp!

Putting a capacitor in backwards is not going to fry your board. What will probably happen is your capacitor is going to explode in you're going to have a nice smoke show, that's it.

Yes, the 2.2uf is just fine. Make sure the voltage rating is correct, that's about the only real concern. The amp isn't going to care about the difference between 2 and 2.2 uf.

Enjoyed the video thanks for sharing, I have an old Peavey Century I really want to recap myself. Where did you order your parts from and when I do it can I just go left to right across the board part by part by the number printed on them and replace? I’m a newbie…

I got them from .ouser. but any supplier should have them like Digi-key. Replace the caps one at a time. Take photos and do it methodically.

Oh yeah and mine was 300 bucks with the peavey 2x15 cab.

I just got one of these but mine doesn't have the master volume. Does that make it older than yours? Thanks

Yes the master volume was added to later versions of this range of amps. I have both the Bass 400 & Musician 400 amps with master voliume. You can find PDF manuals online of these both with & without master volume.
