Peavey needs to go back to its roots with their aesthetics and amp designs. They made some of the best solid state amps in the business with an iconic aesthetic, and they need to get back to doing that. They also need to go back to Meridian, Mississippi, too. The guitar industry needs a Peavey resurgence.

I hated my decade and thought it made me look poor. I spent a lot of time in the southern U.S. playing through Peavy equipment, and with Peavy equipment in the early 80's. I'm happy they built bullet proof equipment I could afford and the stuff lasted well past my final payment to the local music store where I purchased it on credit. I do think I have permanent back issues from that T-60 bass that might have weighed more than the amp I played it through. What's funny is, you can find a similar era Peavey amp with serious power and full sized speakers, footswitchable Saturation and reverb, for peanuts - because it's not the exact amp from the video they saw. Peavey SS stuff is like legos in this era - Greg Ginn ran a PA head because it was running basically a simplified Mace preamp, or rather, four of them. Fun circuit, good for all kinds of rootsy and classic tones. "Saturation" is like stacking a fuzz on a dirty/crunchy amp, so if you like that, you'll like this. Not surprising that Josh likes it. If you're expecting metal, teal stripe or newer. $299 isn't bad, considering dorks were paying twice that to some guy who paid $50 for it and flipped it to some dude who's younger than the capacitors in the amp. The upgrades basically make it a mini Encore sans reverb, and the speaker out would allow big cabs, where it would shine brighter. Neat.
@DogSlobberGardens-i7f2 күн бұрын

The funny part is the "Josh Homme" peavey Decade...when in fact it was mostly use by Nick Olivieri on Bass part(well, 2 SVT's with 410in front of each others-u47 in the middle i think- for the "sub"+ the decade for the main tones/grit. At the end, the decade was the most important part of the tones). Josh use it for a few guitars part here and there(on recent record aswell), sure, but it was Nick bass tone on song for the deaf. And the best part is "we will start with clean tone because...." when actually, QOTSA is mostly Clean tones lol. I remember a video Troy did on Reverb channel where the guy try to replicate the tones on their popular songs: Troy: "too much gain..too much gain...pretty close, but too much gain. Believe it or not, but it was mostly clean when we record it!!!". Guess the saturation come for the broken HP's, Vintage crappy mics they use to reord it. living room gd did a video on the decade...and get pretty close to Nick and Josh tones. Troy use old solid state Peavey too. His own company build amp blending the power amp section of Bassman and AC30 with solid state preamp to get the best of his former rigs(handwiring AC30+Peavey musician head). And on Villains, they dind't use amp for the most part...guitars to JHS color box(neve channel in a pedal) direct to Console(no IR or amp sim at all, like old David Bowie and some Stones/ ZEP stuff)...but stiil use the decade on a couple songs. The ideas was: there's 3 guitarists, 2 go DI, the 3rth use a amp, someting like that

Voice it for a celestion neodym speaker, make the cabinet ultralight but with that classic 80's styling and an FX loop you have a winner. This is catered straight at us guys that grew up with bandits growing up, those amps are the unsung Heroes of countless American garage bands, we deserve a grown up version.
