I love how the XXX essentially does the same thing as the Dual Rectifier with it being a scooped amp with a lot of low end, and even then you don't even need a boost to make it sound tight enough for heavy riffing.

The articulation clarity is best xxx. The Mesa farts tiny bit on bottom. Both sound excellent. I have a xxx and it rocks .... omy... it rocks. Works great for any style too. Set gain at 9 o'clock play ac dc all day long too. Love the 3 rd channel.for solo.

Love my XXX. But to be honest the JSX sounds very similar and has a built in Noise Gate which is an incredible feature !!

Great video and playing. Having both amps I dont see how they are the same other than aesthetics.Under my fingers they are sonically unique but extremly complimentary in a mix.

Owned a Triple Rectifier with matching 4 12 slant! Orange Channel Boosted. Best high gain tone I’ve ever achieved. Sold over 20 years ago and feeling nostalgic, not able to afford the Mesa but the triple xxx was great scooped! Very close I was surprised, not as tight and articulate (what most people say these amps are not for!) bullshhh they are the best. I was Looking at this xxx and the Bugera Trirec, B52 AtX, genz benz diablo, Randall Rg503.You are Up there with the very best Content Creators and demonstrating Artist! Thank You!

Oof, that’s a tough one. XXX has the signature Peavey high gain fizz but is generally chunkier, Rectifier has the Mesa presence and raw grind but a little more loose. If the recto had a tiny more mids and a boost it would be perfect! XXX is very underrated and a better value.

Great job as always with great playing that does a great job of showcasing a wide frequency range and not just "chugga chugga." As a user of both of these amps (I don't have the Peavey anymore) I'm seriously beginning to suspect that something about KZbin audio reproduction puts Mesa Rectifiers at a disadvantage. When compared to other more upper midrange focused amps. We all know midrange cuts through. Even the midrange of cheap quality and sounding amps. There's a video somewhere of a bugera sounding better than a Mesa Rectifier. I don't need to tell to you that a boosted Recto live, is a powerful force to be experienced. So much of it's personality and ball shaking power, just doesn't seem to shine through KZbin videos.

Got them both to dude... The xXx is truly an underrated amp IMHO... Not that i dont love my Duel Rec but the xXx man! Just brutal... Mine ist' stock thou. When one of the tubes died i asked my local shop to retube it with EL34s... It changed the sound so redically... The mids are a bit lower. Best anallegy - its more like a warhammer vs a sharp sword... One is like thumping, where the other is a sharper sounding, dont know if that makes sence? Bottom line - love my xXx...

Both great... love the mids from the XXX, but it's hard to beat a Dual Rec for more aggressive styles.

Hello. I like this comparison. Many thanks for doing this! And I would also like to see a comparison between these two amps in clean and crunch. For metal tones, i liked the XXX a little better than the rectifier. The rectifier sound reminded me of Metallica's "And Justice for all", what is a superb reference, anyway I liked the more rounded and slightly fatter sound of the XX a tad more. It is sad the XXX or JSX is not offered anymore.

Great vid. I appreciate your test method "in the mix". To me the Dual Rec really shines with the lower tuning of the 2 set. To my ears it was more articulate and sat in the mix cleaner and more defined. The 1st set in E standard was pretty close and not really that different.

Dual rectifier wins. Has more of a agressive tone just a tad more low end grunt. The mids seem to jump out on the mesa with some bass but not to muddy. Sounds much fuller. But for the price diff I'll take the xxx. Oh shit and by way killer demo. Love the lead playing

I let my friend who’s in a band use my peavey 3120 along with my other boost pedals for shows here and there. He always gets a few people on how he got a fat tone that has punch and crunch yet is still has note clarity he always says ask this guy (me). I spent a lot of time working on my tone which has tight chunky bottom end with crunchy mids and screaming high end without getting too thin or ice picky. I still say the xxx/3120 is one of the best high gain budget amps out today and recommended anyone to get one just tweak the active eq to your liking and your set

Based on the audio available to me via a KZbin video I've now watched twice I have to say the XXX wins in a mix or with my stupidly loud air conditioner running. As frightfully cool as the Dual Rec will always be the XXX "cuts" better with anything else going on around it. That's good news for my wallet but sad for my 'tallica loving heart. Good video,and content in general. Keep doing as you do.

The Dual Rec is a very 90s soundings really compressed and fuzzy, the triple x is more classic metal. I'd take a Marshall, EVH or 6505 over both.
