Oh, I don’t have problems with lacquer but flat painted necks. Get sticky.

I listened to your whole argument, and you made some good points but the Gibsons BLEW the Epiphone out of the water totally, completely tonewise, it just did not have ANY of the growl of the Gibsons.
@Crypticmaskguitar14 сағат бұрын
The point isn’t the sound, though. It’s the feature set. I agree with you whole heartedly. I own zero Epiphone, 9 Gibson USA Les Paul’s, and 6 Gibson Custom Les Paul’s. you won’t get an argument from me on that point. But the whole point of the video is to show that the Epiphone’s are indeed Les Paul’s. Cheers -Ryan

If it could be. I would like to see the 2 different guitars switch the pickups that gibson install the pickups of epiphone and the epiphone install the pickups of gibson . It might be good for consideration of someone who want to upgrade the cheap epiphone .And to loosen a doubt what make guitar sound nice between woods and pickups . Thank you and keep hearing from you.

That is an incredibly large amount of work for a video. I don't think that people understand the amount of work that a Comparison video like this takes. It's generally around 6 hours of work per comparison. To start including sections that involve soldering to swap out pickups along with string changes and ensuring that all of the pole pieces are at the same height after the pickup changes... I'm sure you can see how ridiculous that would be (Espcially since the Epiphone was a rental). At the end of the day, swapping out the pickups wouldn't change the overall feel of the guitars. I've been playing for almost 30 years... I have owned well over 100 guitars in that time (probably around 200 or so). I have owned $200 guitars that I have sunk $600 in upgrades into, I have have paid $2,000 for guitars... I have paid $10,000 for Guitars. The $200 guitars with all of the upgrades still feel like $200 guitars, but they sound better. Feel is much more important in the scheme of things than sound. Cheers -Ryan

If you change half the guitar, it's not the same guitar anymore innit?!
@CrypticmaskguitarКүн бұрын
Fundamental changes like finish type and species of wood for the neck… yes. Satin Nitro tends to let more resonance through (acoustically) and you lose some of the top end… the tribute series usually used Maple for the neck to offset the loss, as maple adds a snappy feel. Do I have to end my comment here by saying “Innit”? I’m not sure of the social convention… innit. Cheers -Ryan

I've had this one for 4 years now. It needed a setup. I took it to the best locally. It was buzzing and rattling when fretted mid neck. Keeping it tuned was horrible. I was thinking truss rod issue and locking tuners. Nope. Neck was too flat. And nut grooves needed filing. Had string bind. It stays in tune now. Factory tuners are good. No buzz etc either. They advertise CTS pots. Mine weren't. And pots were small. Had those swapped out and it really let more frequency through. Neck pickup no longer muddy.

To be honest, I've watched a lot of your videos and I really want to know which one you prefer, playing metal or breakdown, when choosing between sg std, sg custom, 64 sg, and les paul custom?Of course, their original pickups are different.
@Crypticmaskguitar2 күн бұрын
To me the Custom Shop stuff feels better, I can feel a lot more of the guitar from picking to fretting. Les Pauls really work well for me (Much more than SGs). Mostly because I prefer the thickness and weight. They feel a lot more balanced than SGs (Feel wise as SGs tend to have much more upper mid range with less low and low mid range in the playing). SGs are awesome, though. For Metal I tend to play a little on the sludgy side with SGs as they have a little more grit and top end to them that translates well to that type of playing. But Les Pauls have a more solid feel to them so I tend to play a little different with them. It's all preference though. We all like different things. I focus more on how a guitar feels and makes me feel, whereas a lot of other players focus on how the guitar looks or sounds. You can get awesome sounds out of a $200 Jackson or Epiphone. But when it comes to how they feel in comparison (and what you might be looking for) there is a Major difference to me. Cheers -Ryan

@@Crypticmaskguitar Thank you for your reply. It has helped me a lot.😑 Between the more expensive 1968 Les Paul Custom and the normal Les Paul Custom, would you also choose 1968 for playing with metal? Although it is a low-power pickup with only half the resistance of 498t, wood and details, craftsmanship seem to be better.
@Crypticmaskguitar2 күн бұрын
Craftsmanship is far and above on the '68 than the Modern Custom. I have no idea why the Modern Custom is priced so high... it's basically a USA lineup made in the Custom Shop. The '68 is probably the next guitar that I am going to buy, followed up by a '54 Les Paul and a '57 Les Paul Custom. The Reissue Guitars are unbelievable. Cheers -Ryan

Oof, that’s a tough one. XXX has the signature Peavey high gain fizz but is generally chunkier, Rectifier has the Mesa presence and raw grind but a little more loose. If the recto had a tiny more mids and a boost it would be perfect! XXX is very underrated and a better value.
@zerosoma334 күн бұрын
I think the Valve King has more harmonic overtones. It’s also gutsier than the Mesa. The Mesa has more of a Marshallized top end that helps it cut while the Valve King, staying true to its sludge, tames the top end in comparison.

I have a 2013 Gibson “LPJ”. Nobody knows what “LPJ” means but it is a les Paul in every way possible. The only difference is that it has a maple neck but I prefer that as it is stronger and less likely to break. I replaced the blacked out pickups (they were 490 R and 498 T and sounded ok but I hated the look so put in some low output hand wound paf knock offs). The nitro finish has aged nicely and is naturally relic’d which I love. Had the frets crowned and polished after a couple years of playing. I pick up and try lots of new Gibsons and have yet to find a standard that I prefer (don’t like plastic nibs for one thing) and the LPJ was well under $1000. Maybe that’s why they only made it one year (yes they made a 2014 LPJ but it wasn’t as close to a standard spec as the 2013 was. It’s like buying a Porsche that has the same engine, specs and performance of other Porsches but a less shiny paint job for a third of the price. It’s a win to me.

So the 800 blows the Windsor out of the water. However, they did get a lot closer when you switched to the Explorer and had higher mids, so that may be part of it.
