Song was originally for Vanessa L. Williams, but when she got pregnant, LA Reid gave the song to Pebbles. Vanessa’s been giving LA the side eye ever since (though she’s cool with ‘Face).

this song is a banger and is written by L.A. Reid and Babyface. these 2 guys had a very distinct sound and wrote several hits for several different artists including Pebbles, karyn white, whitney, toni Braxton, TLC, Johnny Gill and on and on. Huge hits. I miss their sound for sure. so many bangers. Also Pebbles has some really good songs. check out love/hate and givin you the benefit and the ballad always.

Pebbles is absolutely stunning. I liked the image she projected--classy, elegant woman. She was "Da Woman'' back in the day with "Mercedes Boy", "Girlfriend", "Backyard", "Giving You the Benefit", and "Love Makes Things Happen". Too bad she didn't go further with her career; I recall, she stepped out of the spotlight, got her own record label, and produced TLC.

This is one of the songs that made my "record off of the radio" mix cassettes when I was a kid. Now, thanks to the way radio stations worked back then by having their call letters/numbers be placed in the songs by the singer singing them in the song as a remix, I'll never be able to sing this song with hearing the radio station's letters/numbers ever again because that's the only version of the song that they would play after that.

This was Pebbles first big hit! The Deale is the group that featured Babyface, the icon, and he is in the middle stall! 😂 I love Pebbles too and I think she gets a bad rap for her TLC management! That was the record company’s fault, in my opinion! Record companies a notorious for suspect deals with new artists! Berry Gordy cheated all his artists at Motown but he never got the backlash she did! ❤❤

There is a very interesting backstory to that of which Vanessa Williams' ex husband explains it very well. He did an interview not too long ago where he tells EVERYTHING! It's so good. Of course he was Vanessa's husband and manager at the time.
