I think Brendan Fraiser has gotten the closest to any actor at recapturing the Harrison Ford Han Solo/India Jones character's vibe. Competent when he needs to be hilariously unlucky when he's not. Also, The Mummy is the perfect mix of action, adventure and humor.

A bit of trivia: In the scene in the prison when Rick was being hanged. The apparatus holding onto Brendan Fraser failed and the rope was actually choking him. Fraser passed out and had to be revived. He came very close to actually dying on that set. But being the trooper he is, he got back up and finished the scene. One issue Brendan had in the aftermath of filming this trilogy, was having done his own stunts he ended up with bad back issues and had to undergo several surgeries to fix the issues. That left him unable to work for a goodly portion of the 2000s. Also he was sexually assaulted by a member of the voting board of the Golden Globes and blacklisted as he did call out the guy. After the Golden Globes were called on the carpet for their own conduct, Brendan Fraser was vindicated after he made his "Me Too" allegation public. In the aftermath of that, he was offered the role in Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale" and it was for that film he won the Best Actor in a Motion Picture Oscar. He is now very sought after and has stated he'd be willing to come back as Rick O'Connell.

@@passionsquietrage I would argue writing and acting are two single most important things in the movie so that's your answer right there but they are simply boring movies. I saw them both once or twice in life on TV and I don't feel any desire to see them again. The only funny thing I remember from mummy 3 is literally the last sentence. Jonathan said he will go somewhere else to never see mummies again. Like Peru. Soon after, there were mummies in Peru. The mummy 1 and 2 on the other hand are timeless classics that I rewatch every time I see another KZbin reaction and I am still entertained by them. I admit that's subjective but I am willing to bet the majority of the fan base would agree with me.

Fun fact: During the opening shootout introducing Rick, he loads his rifle after each shot to keep "rapid-fire" topped off for dire situations. Because the Lebel 1886 features a magazine cutoff that allows soldiers to hold rounds "in reserve." Also, in regards to Rick's hanging.... yes. Brendan Fraser legit did the stunt. But something went wrong, and he was nearly killed but managed to be given CPR in time and made a full recovery. ALSO also, when Carly said that (9:20 - 9:24), I found it pretty ironic, when you find out: 1. The director of this movie did the live action 1994 Jungle Book movie, which heavily inspired Disney's 1999 animated Tarzan, ironically release the same year as this movie. 2. Fraser was actually offer the role to voice the Disney animated version of Tarzan, but got turned down for Tony Goldwyn (Ghost). And Rachel Weisz had got some inspiration from the character Jane to play Evelyn. And I can totally see the similarities in both movies.

This was such an amazing adventure when it came out in 99. This is hands down one of my favorite adventure movies. I can quote this thing front to back. And honestly, The Mummy Returns is a ton of fun, too. There are so many call backs to the first movie in the second one, and Evey and Rock have so much chemistry in that one too. I highly recommend that one as well.

It almost felt out of place in 1999. Like it wasn't really the type of movie they made that often in those years.

The Mummy is one of my favorite movies. I love Rachel Weisz as the brainy, beautiful leading lady, Brendan Fraser as the adventurous man of action, and Arnold Vosloo as the chief villain. Also, they did get the mummification practices correct when Evy described how ancient Egyptians removed people's brains (minus a slight omission): They used the hook to also punch a hole in the person's skull so the brain drained out when they were rolled over. And I always get jumpscared when Jonathan is toying around in that damned sarcophagus, no matter how many times I've seen the movie. Also, regarding the debate of camels VS horses: Horses are faster, but camels have higher levels of stamina and are adapted for life in the desert. Even though they DO eventually need to eat and drink, they can survive for 15 days without water and can use the fat in their humps to nourish themselves, they also have long eyelashes to keeps sand and dust out of their eyes and their feet are big and wide to evenly distribute their bodyweight (A dromedary, or one-humped camel weighs between 880-1,320 pounds, while a Bactrian, or two-humped camel weighs between 990-1,100 pounds) so they don't sink in the sand.

So glad ya’ll finally got to this! It came out on my 10th birthday and my dad took me to see it in theaters, I was hooked!! Got it on VHS and watched it with friends over and over and was ecstatic for The Mummy Returns, which in my opinion was just as fun, adventurous and funny! I really hope you both come back for Returns! You guys would love it.

If you think about it, Imhotep wasn't a villain. He was in love with a woman whom the pharaoh forced to be his mistress for his own pleasure, and she loved Imhotep. The two of them wanted to be together, but the pharaoh, in all of his entitled attitude, was butthurt, so before Imhotep could revive her so they could be together, they caught him and sentenced him to the worst death imaginable for love. If I was brought back, I'd be pissed too. In his eyes, these guys are no better than the pharaoh and his body guards whom stopped him from his love the first time, but now he's got an upperhand.

Brenden is a Canadian/American. He is quite good in this one and its sequel you should also catch him in "Bedazzled" where he makes a series of wishes with the devil, Elizabeth Hurley. He does an excellent job. I am surprised you haven't seen this one. Good reaction.

It's definitely worth checking out The Mummy Returns for more of both, plus the same flavor of adventure and comedy with light spooks! Evie gets even more to do in the sequel, and I love when films keep romances just as spicy and fun when (spoilers) the characters have been married for years.

Comeback king Brendan Fraser was the cool swashbuckling adventurer most of us grew up with, his chemistry with Rachel Weisz is off the charts and this is a perfect companion piece to Indiana Jones. Do watch the sequel The Mummy Returns as it's even better and has more Rick and Evie again. Other Brendan movies to check out are Blast from the Past with Alicia Silverstone (you both will LOVE that one), School Ties, With Honors, Gods and Monsters, Bedazzled and of course The Whale which he just won his Oscar for. It's an emotional watch so have tissues prepared for that one. Watched him a lot growing up and I'm very happy to see his well deserved resurgence.
