Fantastic. It's is so enlightening finally understanding this and why I have a relatively shit bench press. I always knew it was genetics and the fact that I am ectomorphic and have a smaller torso but I always just thought it was do to a lack of width in the pecs not this vertical component and it is really cool actually understanding how the muscles work like this. It also explains why the arch works so well and a good tip on not exhaling during the push. Awesome

These videos are utterly amazing and useful. Are you going to be doing a series on deadlifts any time soon?

Maybe a little late, but... Does a higher (raised) rib cage also matter with regard to hypertrophy on a flat bench or is a decline bench better. And is an incline bench optimal for the upper pecs or is a flat or decline bench sufficient?

Do you have a metal bench scale, for demonstration, that can model benching with different arm-leverages & grip placements etc.? (much like the contraption used in your Squat Video - Fold Ability)

Yes, we'll have a video in the future showing that - different model though... )One that will be easy for anyone to make for themselves) Thanks for watching!

Is this harmfull to keep shoulders and scapula bone in retrected position for the time of hole banch press movement .?
@Mr_SamuelAdam10 жыл бұрын
Tom.. Bench press keep shoulder retracted the whole time.. What about flyes or pec dec or crossovers? Keep shoulders retracted the whole time. Or should the scapula move like it does in rows or anything else? Or keep it retraced? Or let it retract and protract?

Tom doesn't reply, but we may occasionally. Maintaining scapular retraction while performing those exercises may be an option, however, like everything else, it has potential consequences. -admin

Tom question.. When doing bench I know scapula should stay retracted whole time.. Just like you explained... When doing flyes or pec dec/crossovers do you need to keep the scapula retracted the whole time or should you retract and protract when doing a fly motion? Hope that makes sense.....
