I decided to Anglicise my LGB starter set Stainz loco so it would better match the rolling stock on my 45mm gauge garden railway. The side tanks were extended and the boiler paraphernalia replaced with a brass dome and a slimmer chimney. She is powered with li-ion 18650 batteries, controlled with an RC Trains/Deltang receiver/controller and sound is provided by a Dallee 2k2 soundcard. She needs a little more titivation, but she is more or less ready for service. For more information see riksrailway.bl... - Music "Open Those Bright Eyes" by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com ). Thanks Geoff. I owe the inspiration for the bash to you. Now done a bit more titivating since I made the video (eg removed the valve gear) and I think she looks a bit more UK-ish - see riksrailway.blogspot.com/2017/04/how-i-anglicised-lgb-stainz-loco.html

Looks great! I’m thinking about Americanizing my stainz by replacing the body outright. I just need to find a suitable one.

doing my own take on this idea but with a small tender in place of the small coal bunker for fewer stops to top up coal and water, what do you recommend using to remove the original details sorry to put a message on a older video just curious

Sounds like an interesting project. Surface and more substantial details were removed with a combination of razor saw, craft knife, needle files and emery. After which, inevitably, filler needed to be applied to fill various dints and gouges. More info on my blog. For some reason, it won't let me post the link 🙁

By the way, chiselling blades in the craft knife are good for this job, but make sure your fingers are behind the blade - guess how I learned that .... 😕

The thing that's bad about the Dallee sound boards is that they're's no waranty. Mine went bad after only using a short time and they wouldn't replace it. I'll never buy anythiing from them again! $130 down the drain. 😤

Must admit that I bought my card secondhand for less than half its normal price. So far (touch wood), I've not had any problems with it. I also picked up a Dallee Galloping Goose card for the same price, but I've not yet used it. Most of my diesel locos are much too small to justify the sound emitted by the card.

Wonderful modelling, but personally, I'm no fan of sound in a model steam locomotive, different in a diesel though, that I can live with!

The Stainz is hardly recognizable again. Their new appearance is conclusive of the shape. It fits well to your train, as if it had always been there ... Best regards Henry
