People asked me: Is Peckham dangerous? See for yourselves :) Some people my associate Peckham with certain crimes, or will have heard that it is a rough London area. I saw none of that. It's a London borough with character and I can't wait to go back and explore. More videos about London locals? Let me know in the comments.

It's weird to see how much Peckham had changed. I still remember when Woolworths occupied where Iceland & Sports Direct currently are and from 2005-2011 when Peckham was a no-go area when it was dark.

I remember when the department store Jones and Higgins was there my dad brought me a chopper bicycle from there35.00 pounds the good ol' days.

Only showing the newer, gentrified shops in Peckham, and calling it 'the real Peckham' felt a bit silly. It's a shame you didn't talk about it's history (only dismissively saying it used to be 'rough') or visit any long standing businesses/restaurants such as Manze, which has been in the area about a hundred years. It would have been much more authentic and interesting to see a real mix!

I call it the real Peckham because people think it’s dangerous. The real Peckham isn’t. All I’m trying to do is show people a side to Peckham that would make them want to move there :) There are many more sides to it than the one I showed, but this is a good start :) Plus I don’t really think the Laundrette for instance represents gentrification but each to their own ahha

Although Only Fools and Horses was "set" in Peckham, all the location (outside) shoots was filmed in Bristol where 'Nelson Mandela House' can be found. The only show which was set and filmed in Peckham was Desmond's which they used the outside of a real barber shop called Lloyd's which was found on Bellenden road nr Avondale road. Sadly almost like everything else in Peckham, it's been turned into flats. Such shows which have filmed in Peckham are The Sweeney, London's Burning, The Bill, Nike's ad campaign #LDNR and as of recently Killing Eve and the film Blue Story. Both the BBC and ITN use Peckham Levels for news interviews.

@@SandyMakesSense Hi Sandy, haha, I wish! Just grew up in Peckham all my life and recognise the locations. I was very much stonewalled trying to get into the media industry when I was younger as you either needed to be in university or undergraduate and it wasn't a field that took you on otherwise. I love operating a camera but black and ethnic minorities when't looked upon in the late 90's for photographic talent, just on-screen. Currently I just work to live, not live to work & still yearn to work in media. But they still seem to only want young people when you look at entry level vacancies. Sorry for the waffle..

Hi Sandy, so true about Peckham being underrated and so great that you are exploring the outer Borough's of London. I think there are 32 Boroughs so you must have visited quite a few by now on your travels. Only Fools and Horses is a classic series and you might still find it on the UK Gold channel or maybe clips on KZbin. Your video's never disappoint. Take care..

Nicely produced video Sandy - and I know you wanted to keep it short - but you missed out so much of what Peckham has to offer - and charming as your host was - his was a very personal choice of personal haunts that failed to take in - Peckham Rye Park - one of the most underrated but beautiful London parks / Rye Lane with all it's many multi-cultural shops and markets / Queens Road district which has developed a vibe of it's own / our award winning design Library and the many great pubs including 'Prince of Peckham'. Peckham was recently described by 'Time Out' magazine as 'the coolest place in London' - and the fact that it has managed to keep it's black & ethnic communities intact despite the march of 'gentryfication' has contributed to this. I think you need to do a volume 2 for Peckham - to really do it justice. PS - You must be the only person in the Country who hasn't seen 'Only fools and horses' which is really funny - but gives a rather negative view of Peckham which is totally out of date now - and the fact is that hardly any of it was filmed in Peckham - but mostly in Bristol.
