If you haven't yet, I highly recommend checking out the afternoon tea at the Wolseley next to the Ritz! Amazing feel, mid price range, insanely good vegetarian/ vegan selection and they offer free refills of everything (yes, we ate so many scones and had sandwich and mini battenberg refills...)

It depends where you come from in the UK as to how you pronounce it. Where I grew up everyone said Skoan, scon just sounds pretentious to me.

I find that afternoon tea has become a total luxury in the latest years. Fortnum and Mason have doubled the price in 10 years or so (£80 now!). I found years ago that The Orangery at Kensington Palace had a great value, but now it is £55. You can still find budget options, like Pastiserie Valerie for around £40 for two people. So 20 each, and it was yummy. Maybe not so posh or fancy, but very nice. Also the café at the crypt in Saint Martin in the Fields have lovely cream tea for around £7 and it was delicious.

My daughter and I splurged and had tea at the Rosewood Hotel, as per your recommendation and it was beautiful. Every item was artistically created and presented.

I've been waiting for this video to get some recommendations and like the look of the Mad Hatter afternoon tea. When I visit London I usually have coffee and cake at The Parlour at Fortnum and Mason its usually fairly quiet and relaxed in the afternoon. They do savouries, cakes, ice cream and an afternoon tea for £23, not bad for that part of London.

Dear Jess; I,m staying at Meliá White House and when I asked them a nice play for having afternoon tea, they suggested the very same hotel. Nonetheless I do not want to spend my leisure time in my hotel and, since I,m at London, I decided to attend another establishment. I think it's excellent that you took in consideration different price points. I'm Colombian, in our culture we do "elevens" and afternoon tea/coffee. I've been to many high teas and I love them. But, for me, your latter option of just the scones and tea was lovely and just the right amount of food I want in an afternoon snack. This is a recommendation I've never seen before. Could you tell me, do bakeries in London also offer tea and a place to sit? Or is it more like most French or Italian bakeries/bars where you take your coffee standing?

Agree about cream tea, usually the full afternoon tea is too much food for the afternoon. Highly recommend the Ivy (they have restaurants in many locations) great surroundings, great service and great quality. You can even get cream tea at one of London’s top hotels, The Lanesborough and it’s a lot less expensive than the full option.

Our tea at Grosvenor House was fantastic but that Mad Hatter tea is adorable! There is a tea place in St Louis, MO called The London Tea Room ( owned by British expats) that has a great afternoon tea for the price. They have authentic clotted cream. We go every few years when visiting family.

Cream then jam. Nice. 😁 I am sure this is going to sound super touristy, but we did get the afternoon tea in the cafe in the Westminster Abbey during our tour there. It was a lovely break and I recall it being very tasty. It was about the lower end of the midpoint per person on your list. Granted, it was largely a convenience thing, but we still enjoyed it.

For my money considering price, quality and ambiance I recommend the Palm Court at the Firtzroy in Bloomsbury. Love your videos! (But sorry, I am Cornwall all the way when it comes to scones and clotted cream. And … “white” and “chocolate” should never be used next to each other. 😅)

I've read that some places allow you to order more of something if you like it, without an extra charge. Is this only at the more expensive places? We plan to have afternoon tea at Claridge's on our trip to the UK, but Ting's looks AMAZING!

I went to Claridges about 7 years ago and yes they allow us to order more of the savory sandwiches. And just had tea last week at the dorchester and they allowed more sandwhiches. When you are paying $100 per person they allow it lol

And to think I was in London last Saturday….and then again last Monday/Tuesday and I didn’t have afternoon tea once ??!! ….what was I doing !!! ps the answer was on Tuesday afternoon I was at a show at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane which I was very pleasantly surprised by the interior and ambience…. They do afternoon tea…. Very convenient for tired legs near Covent Garden.

At the famous Betty's Tearoom in York, they charge about £35 or so, and it's usually full of foreign tourists queuing up outside, thinking they are getting an authentic British experience. You can find much cheaper ones around the city for a third of the price and it's just as tasty

Hey Jess, how are you? I came across your youtube video whilst trying to search for something on the net. Initially saw your Afternoon Tea videos which were great. Loved the review. Haven't got round to the Fortnum & Mason Afternoon tea as yet. Just as a recommendation have you been to the Indian Afternoon Tea at The Taj St James Court. Great food and service. The Taj has been voted World's strongest brands last year. They treat you like royalty, it's a whole different level of Afternoon Tea, lots of sweet and savoury treats, also perfect for vegetarians. It has Indian and western fusion going on.

The Ivy does afternoon tea with the savouries and sweets too (not just scones) and all of their restaurants are lovely and individually decorated so no two are the same. its very affordable in comparison with the 5 star hotels which are now nudging at £70-100 + which I do think is a bit ridiculous for a sandwich and some cakes!
