Hi Dave, yeah good work on the Bullhead track. It's code 75 rail so the same as the Peco Finescale track, but is Bullhead and has correct sleeper spacing. I have code 75 and everything runs on it fine. Old stuff say Triang Hornby with the course flanges or maybe Lima, not tested, which has large deep flanges on the wheels might be a problem. I think it's mainly the wheels with deep large flanges which have problems, as the bottom of the flange ends up running along the top of the sleepers. Anyway I think most of your stuff I have seen on your videos will be fine. All the very best Dave.

Cheers for the comprehensive bullhead test 😅 but based on how you put it together, I’ll stick to code 100, you can keep your finescale snobbery. Great update mate and happy new year

Good. It works the plaster stuff I was never impressed I have been on the foam board and hot wire cutter never looked back. Sculptomold where I live takes weeks and months to dry. The foam cut shape paint scatter static can create a hillside in minutes not hours. Otherwise top tat as always. Bull head make sure you curve it to test as well. My 150th appears next Friday with a surprise addition. Stay safe and good luck with the three dimensional printer.
@doubleodave
@doubleodave Ай бұрын
The foam stuff is decent and quick but if you drop stuff on it I find it damages that bit to easily. Sculptamould does take forever to dry and if you get impatient and paint it too early I find the paint doesn’t adhere good enough. I did the hot wire cutter stuff previously too but I find that a bit restrictive with what I had. Will have to see how it all turns out I guess 👍

@krazytroutcatcher
@krazytroutcatcher Ай бұрын
The stock that wouldn’t run on code 75 was the pre 90’s stuff, the crude Hornby flanges bumped over the chairs. Back then, if you wanted detailed stock, you had to to re wheel with Romford, Gibson, or Sherman wheels, then buy or make your own detailing, cutting and shaving loco bodies of moulded in details, which were also often out of dimensions, Hornby teak coaches were notorious for that. Modellers are now blessed with some very fine stock, being able to take them straight out of the box and run, without any jarring toy like aesthetics. When I put my new Accurascale Deltic alongside my Lima Deltic, I actually wonder how we tolerated it, it’s junk.

Thanks for the show on bullhead. I found that my Peco points MUST be laid perfectly level across to work well, but when that is accomplished, I am happy with both the medium and large radius turnouts. One challenge with both Peco and Legacy bullhead track is the thin sleepers. It is very challenging to me to get ballast off the sleepers without exposing the underlayment. First, let me comment that all but one of my locos, diesel and steam, run fine on bullhead. Older Lima wagons with pizza cutters don't. Also, I had to replace quite a few Hornby coach plastic wheel sets with new ones from Peters Spares, set to proper back-to-back. My Accurascale Royal Scots Grey Cl. 55 hates my bullhead. Out of the box, it would short on every Peco point, but fortunately, the stay-alive carried on through. Heard a LOT of clacking from my Digitrax box, though. Correcting the back-to-backs, using a DCC Connection gauge cured that problem (It was a brutal process as I absolutely cannot get the keeper plates off the bogies.) The next problem was any slight vertical curve, and I do mean slight. The rigid second axle would allow the lead axle to rock up and derail. I did a great deal of track adjusting, filing, re-aligning, and at two locations adding guard rails for 75 mm, so MOST of the problems went away...until...crossing a high bridge with guard rails (inside the track) it jumped off and dove to the floor. The cosmetic damage was significant, but the biggie was that one bogie came disconnected from the power train, so now frozen, just drags. Back to Accurascale for repairs, and that is a big deal from the U.S. Also, it randomly slows, stops, and reverses, where NO other loco does so. I am so frustrated by this Co-Co that I may never buy another Accurascale loco - and I haven't even started on the Siphon G problems and fixes.

'Biggerness' is it a word? It is now. Always a blast watching your videos I just giggle all the way through. Good question about old it's all relative really in the end although a deep flange is a deep flange and that will be the issue no matter how old or new the modelling. Have to say that so far as a bullhead user I have not come across anything that could not run on the layout. Mind you not got that much to run on it to start with lol. 37's are defo delicious seems that you, Hylt and myself covet them and don't know why! As for Scultamod it did go bonkers so I resorted to Finishing Plaster and Sand and it really did the job fine. Sorry to hear about the elf infestation and they are still using double edged Gelets, lol. I added a pocket protector, hard hat, and steel toed boots to my ensemble and I'm ready for the LAB. I have two of those robot arms, but they are getting very old so I might be interested if you will be selling them 3D printed ones and maybe steer me toward a Frank. I had a calculator in my pocket protector and used it to determine you are 46 years old, so you are almost the same age as me only 26 years apart, lol. My birthday is in January also, so nothing changes. I find if you are having problems with car flanges just change the wheels and hope you only have one of those cars. Two notes.If you have old stock.Turn loco upside down.on power and hold flat file across wheels on 100 to much for 075 .if rolling stock .you have to change wheels.Also bullhead is not pro tipical.It comes in flexy track which is used on curves.Sleepers are closer together on curves.601 mm in real life.Also closer on fish plates.To be pro typical they should have made flexy track smaller spacing.And a set track for the straights.Also all main lines bullhead had been removed in sixties and replaced with concrete.If you want to be a little more typical.Buy code 75 stream line.Use flexy on curves.And make alumium jig to set sleepers holding them together with small strips of masking tape.when set remove tape.I also cannot believe the price they want for a bit of plastic and metal.
