electro-harmonix says: "An expressive modulated filter" - i say: "An extreme feedback exploder" - in a tightly controlled feedback loop (you have to push just enough through, any more and it collapses into a square wave), this thing is an instant ticket to gruesome, unrelenting, screeching textures.
patching tip: as well as sending the Blurst! back out to itself, send your synth (or any instrument) to it at the same time. periods of silence between notes will be replaced with unruly, guttural howling and any upper harmonics of your tone will develop a serrated, rocky edge. i use this effect constantly in my work under the alias "rq laji-2"
a series of unscripted videos i've wanted to do for a while in which i dive into a single pedal's capabilities regarding feedback, as pedal overviews/reviews/etc aren't ever really concerned about showing that off (understandably so). pedal feedback is a big part of a lot of my sound design process, so i figure it would be a useful resource.
for more information on how i use feedback and pedals as an instrument see here: • 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬: pedal ri...

Just harsh enough to scratch the itch in my brain and just random enough to keep me focused on my work. I love it. :3

I love your sounds. I love your voice. I don't often comment in KZbin, but once I found out you're most of the artists I loved in the past, after googling your aliases, all of the voices I hear in those songs have always been so awesome. I wasn't sure if you were paying for vocal artists, or synthing random voices, but you always had so many creative lines that I didn't think it was one person. I should have sent a poet.

Miss Emma. The two songs that helped me through the most of my adult life as of now are Eggs and Disinfect the Dead. I have no clue how to just ask you how you made those, I want to understand how and the process.

Starting @ around 3:51 it sounds like a lost tape recording of an alien-torture Black Site...

Dam that filter is dirty just on its own. Not something I would use to it's fullest extent though. Maybe just a tad mod here and there.

And not only that. It's not jaring on the ears. Nice work on capturing the sound.

Do you have example of songs you've made using this thing?

lots of my rq laji-2 stuff uses this in a feedback loop with the microbrute, often on basslines to add unpredictable grit to them - halleylabs.com/track/palpitations halleylabs.com/track/almost-me etc. you can also hear it (combined with a couple distortion pedals) all over nerve's ending (especially with a delay in the chain) - halleylabs.com/track/burning-brain halleylabs.com/track/proselytism etc. and naturally when i'm doing noise stuff it's pretty front and center when it comes to mangling the feedback loop. worth noting i'm usually pairing it with more pedals so it's a little more expressive - there's a link in the description showing the whole rig and how it gets used as an instrument (but sounds can be piped through it all the same)

@@emmaessex You should probably include example in the description otherwise you might see me ask that same question a lot :P

Emma Essex love those tracks. I create non music with feedback loops and cassette collage/hacked radios and pedals some off the peg some kit and some of my own. I've just bought this filter and was looking for inspiration. I've just discovered your vids, we need more non guitar pedal abuse reviews, showing the knob's being twiddled live. Thanks.
