In this week's episode, we're going to look at the absolutely, positively, most underrated Electro Harmonix pedals ever made. I'm a huge fan of this company -- they have continually pushed innovation and circuitry since they first launched in the sixties -- so I'm pretty jazzed.

EHX get a bad rap in the current era of "boutique" (i.e. incredibly expensive) pedals but they, alongside EQD, are my favourite pedal brand who still make interesting, different, weird, experimental, useful stuff. EHX and EQD are the only pedal brands I own more than one product from. I love them and, frankly, I'm kind of glad they aren't as appreciated or their prices will go up. Love EHX, great episode.

honestly, i’d love to make a pedalboard that’s exclusively EQD and EHX, because you’d be able to make a pretty insane board. I think the only thing i couldn’t get from either company is my favourite overdrive because it’s such a specific overdrive pedal that i don’t think anyone else would want lollol.

EHX does so many interesting pedals that go unappreciated. It's so cool that they keep pushing the envelope with releases that are probably very risky from a business standpoint. For example, EHX has a pedal where you can program expression on an 8-step sequencer that follows MIDI clock or tap-tempo, with beat subdivisions. It's called 8-Step Program. It's niche, I know, but c'mon: an expression sequencer on a pedal. They could just keep re-packaging the same fuzz circuits over and over again but they've out there making sequencer pedals. Another example: the Tri-Parallel Mixer. If people gave 2 minutes of their time to understand what this pedal does, they would realize that the Tri-Parallel Mixer can open up so many possibilities on their pedal boards. And there's plenty more. I don't see any other brand pushing this much the limits of what can go on a guitar pedal.

They do still sell the same fuzz circuit a lot. The Big Muff and all its variants (and some of their other less obvious but still popular works like the Memory Man) are likely what make all their niche pedals financially viable.

Tri-Parallel Mixer was 100% my idea. Which is fine -- I LOVE EHX and Mike Matthews is a hero! EHX posted on their social media once asking what kind of unique new pedal you would want made if it were entirely up to you. And literally like 2-3 weeks later or something out came the Tri-Parallel Mixer, which was 90% of the feature-set I posted in the comments, lol. Again, totally don't care though, and if I hadn't suggested it I'm sure they would've come up with it anyway. EHX is magic and Matthews is a grand wizard!

Love this pedal. Lots of sounds in there....low to High gain. Good useful tone control as well. Love the internal voltage switch as well as the mids switch on the top. I hear it's a clone of the OCD. @@emmemmemm2360 Boss are legendary now maybe, but considering EHX's longer history, wider array of pedals they make, and frankly more iconic stuff I think EHX is in a whole 'nother level. Boss is legendary because its probably the first pedal everyone bought, and for all the standard fare, there's a Boss pedal and it'll get the job done. But there's really no Boss equivalent to the Big Muff or Memory Man. Don't get me wrong, I'm not shitting on boss. I have 7 boss pedals on my board, and two are DS-1's. Cool video! I added the Attack Decay pedal to my wish list. As a one man musician I have to point out how awesome the EHX 9 pedals are! The Mel9, Bass9, Key9, Synth9 etc. So many creative possibilities especially when used together! I also love the Grand Canyon delay/looper pedal. 🎸✌

The Ring Thing is criminally underrated. Can do phasing, tremolo, pitch shifting and more. I have a crappy demo on my channel lol that shows the sonic capabilities, but I'm dumb and didn't film the actual settings on the pedal. If you're curious it's there tho

Hey, what about doing a show on great pedal build fails? In particular, I'm interested when things short out, blow out, circuits fry, etc. But I think you could extend it to bad designs, poor manufacturing processes, etc. I think it's neat to know these stories.

@Joshua Williams the reissue just because it was at my local guitar store but it is a dream, my only complaint would be the vibe setting doesn't have the most volume to it but manipulating the foot pedal on the phaser and trem settings are so versatile.

I love the EXH Cock Fight. It’s a cocked wah that can do both cry and talk, plus a fuzz that has a bias control to get that sputtery dying battery sound. The fuzz can be set before or after the wah, or off. Also has an out for an expression pedal. It’s got tons of sounds and is a great way to help fuzz pull through a mix. Just a cool strange pedal.

The Muff and Slapback pedals sounded great together, it really had that vintage vibe and sound, and took me back to the sounds of my early days of going to the local Buxton Pop Festival here in Derbyshire England; where I saw such bands and artists as Canned Heat, Chuck Berry, Nazareth, Budgie, Uriah Heap, and many more bands of the day. What memories, what sound from those huge Marshall stacks and the throbbing pa bass bins, and probably early Electro Harmonix pedals.
