Sounded pretty good to me compared to the amp. Heck of a lot cheaper too. I assume the Bassman was run clean with the pedal into it. Not perfect obviously but close enough to where your average person probably won't notice that big of a difference.

The last segment with three guitar volumes was really great, so many demos don't show different guitar volumes / picking variation, though that is often what varies the most among different gear

Xotic is more compressed. I like them both.

I love your vids, and this pedal. Was this done with a 9V or 18V supply, and thought it sounds like the dip switches were in their default position (regular super lead), can you confirm this? Thanks!

What did you use for the bass sound on the intro song? The bass was ripping

It's a lil' bit weird to me. The SL sounds more compressed but yet has wider headroom on it.

The SL sounds far les compressed and has the higher threshold when run with the voltage doubler or at 18volts

@Grimm Dixie It says “made by Linnemann to Marshall specs”. It’s a Plexi clone, not that it matters much for the purpose of this demo. I can only assume the logo is covered to avoid viewers getting confused

@@grimmdixie7162 Hey Grimm ! Because Bonedo don't "run" for the Marshall brand in this vid, it's dedicated to the Xotic SL Drive... They are selling the pedal ;) For the amp it could be a Marshall Super Lead Plexi but i can't said what model, there is so many different... maybe a JTM45 or it could be a Tornades MS reissue or something else ! Cheers !

Hey Folks, thanks for your comments! In a fact i just covered because this was just a Plexihead by Linnemann that was built after the exact specs of a Super Lead MkI but wasn´t a real Marshall. I thought some might not get the purpose of the video if it shows another brand name but i can assure you, the amp really sounds quite like an old SL (that didn´t all sound the same anyway). I hope it gives you a good impression of how the pedal and the amp react in a comparison - that was really interesting for me too:)!

Actually what this shows quite acutely is that the actual amp sounds much better than the pedal. I am yet to find any pedal that would get me into proper Super Lead territory. I am not giving up though, hopefully some day I'll find something that really sounds as good as the amp!

@Vlad Zubac Thanks for the suggestion. I used to own one actually. It’s not really emulating a Super Lead, it’s more into JCM800 territory. Same as the Xotic SL it sounds nice by itself but does not compete with the real thing.

@Etienne Cosnefroy The point of a pedal is that you can't have a real Marshall SLP stack cranked up in your apartment or any club playing live to get "that" sound, so you resort to other (more practical) ways to achieve this, like this pedal through a backline clean amp or a modeller. As long as it is 90% there is quite good!

Is a plexi a blues breaker?
@c.turner4588
@c.turner4588 4 жыл бұрын
Warning, once you've played a handwired Marshall Plexi you can never go back. I think prestige, the look and the smell might play a part in this but mainly the tone and feel. Volume down on guitar gives the best cleans and volume up on the guitar gives the best dirties. Hire one for a night, you'll see. Rock on! reverb.com/news/a-history-of-marshall-amps-the-early-years

Short answer: A Bluesbreaker is a Plexi, but not all Plexis are Bluesbreakers. Long answer, with a Marshall history lesson: “Plexi” is generally used to refer to any Marshall amp from 1964 until the JCM800 came out in 1981. Specifically, “Plexi” amps include the 100W JMP 1959 Super Lead and its Bass/PA variants, the 50W JMP 1987 (mini Super Lead), the 35W to 50W JTM45 and JTM50 variants, the 100W JTM45/100, the rare KT88-powered 200W JMP 1967 (aka the “Major”), and sometimes the late-‘70s 100W JMP 2203 and 50W JMP 2204 Master Volume amps. l’ve only heard the word “Bluesbreaker” used in reference to the Marshall models 1961 and 1962 combos, which were pretty much JTM45 amps stuffed into combo cabs (model 1961 was the 4x10 “Lead” version, while the 1962 was the 2x12 “Bass” version). Technically, Marshall ditched the Plexiglass panels in 1969, but the 1970s JMP models are still called “Plexis.” Keep in mind, Marshall’s model numbers do not reflect the year in which they were introduced; for example, the 1959 came out in 1965 and the 1987 came out in 1967. The easiest way to keep track of the eras throughout Marshall’s history is by looking at the model prefixes; JTM came first, then they switched to JMP in 1967, then in 1981 the 100W JMP 2203 and 50W JMP 2204 Master Volume models were repackaged and renamed to the JCM800 2203 and JCM800 2204. In my mind, anything with JTM or JMP in the name is a Plexi.
