I got the Alchemy Audio modded Xotic SL Drive. The 4 internal dip switches are moved to external mini-toggles on the side of the pedal. Easy access to the sounds. It came with mini Marshall amp knobs, too. Nice touch!

I like to run my SL Drive in Super Lead mode with the tone at noon and the drive at about 10 o’clock. It cuts through the densest mix like you wouldn’t believe. Put a Tube Screamer in front of it with everything set at noon and you have a pretty killer 4-channel amp.

i can say rob is the reason behind many pedals on my board. Waza Tuner -> Joyo Compressor -> Joyo Crunch Distortion -> MXR SuperBadass -> Ibanez TS9DX -> MXR 10 band EQ -> Donner Noise Killer -> Tone City Angel Wing -> Tone City Tape Machine -> MXR reverb. Love my pedal board.

Yep I got the baby blues the boiling point and the only brown sugar I could find in another country. All swirly. Went a bit crazy. Pedal addict. They were overpriced at the time but now selling for way too low used, because they’re one of a kind and great.

I really like that fridge idea. I took a mini fridge to work because I'm isolated from everyone on campus. My wife jazzed it up with some faux wood contact paper stuff, and students think it's an actual wooden fridge. I'd rather they think I own an original JCM800.

I have a Vox Flat-4 clean-ish boost with a 12ax7 in it, a Plumes, a Morning Glory and a Joyo Taichi. So far, the best setup I have is compressor into the Flat 4 into the Plumes into a li'l bitty Vox AC4TV. I was a bit disappointed in the AC4 to be honest, until I hit upon that path. I have the compressor and flat-4 on low gain/medium volume and use the Plumes volume level as an input attenuator with the gain at half. It makes the li'l bitty Vox wet its pants to the point of saturation and it sounds so good. EL84, I think. And the best part is that I can run the amp at 1/4 watt and make the buttery thick tone at legit bedroom levels.
@RichardPhillipsDJ3 жыл бұрын
I have that same amp, modded when the plague broke out to add JJ tubes and a Celebration Greenback G10 speaker. Using an EXH Tone Corset for compression, a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver for cleanish/crunch and a Fuzz Face for immense saturated lovely fuzz.... The amp also sounds lovely with just a little compression and some reverb. Fantastic clean tones.

My fave OD is still the Boss Blues Driver. It's pretty much always on when I'm playing my Les Paul and goes from a great cleanish tone to searing OD with a spin of my volume knob. With my P90 loaded Firebird I like the D&M Drive. Also have a KOT on the board because it just gives you more of what you love. Lol.

Good list, a nice to see a few affordable options in there. I have the SL Drive on my classic rock board, best Marshall in a box pedal I've heard, incredible tones. I use a TS-9 set to very different to what you demo'd, more of a mild push to break up the amp and give it a little hair. Know what you mean about the level, always use mine at 1 or 2 o'clock. It sounds great stacked in front of the SL Drive like that too. I also use a stock RAT2 which sounds incredible, sweet spot for me is distortion at 9.30, filter around 1.30/2.00 and the volume gunned at about 3.30. Perfect for Soundgarden tones, and sounds especially great in dropped D. Amazing pedal. I suffer from PAS (Pedal Acquisition Syndrome) and built a few boards during lockdown, one specifically for grunge tones. Was hugely impressed with how versatile the OCD is, and have a Tumnus in front of that for klon-esque transparent thing (this stacks incredibly well too). But the Big Daddy was the BE-OD which I use to get filthy Eb Jerry Cantrell tone, it's an absolute fire-breather and I had to dial down the gain on the internal trim pot to tame the beast to my liking! I am building another board currently for an Americana inspired band, and am running an Archer in front of a Camel Toe; I need to learn how to use the CT properly, is early days. The amount of tonal options in the tweaked Green Rhino side is a little overwhelming at first; I'm a mere paedwan at the moment! All in all, my top 5 would be: 1. ProCo RAT 2. Ibanez TS-9 3. Xotic SL-Drive 4. Wampler Tumnus 5. BE-OD I've tried a lot of gain pedals in my time, a few for me which failed to float my boat were the Wampler Pinnacle Deluxe v2, the EHX Big Muff Tone Wicker and the Fender Pugilist. One pedal I traded in and should've kept was the EHX Glove OD, another fantastic plexi/Marshall in a box type which is still incredible value for what it does, and easily holds its own with the boutique brands. It is OK not to be OK (great video with Andy Ferris by the way), and it's also OK to buy more pedals 🙂

Unfortunately, your clean tone on the amp is never completely clean. But I would like to hear the difference. You always play with a humbucker. What about a single coil Strat? Most players play either a Strat or a Gibson Les Paul. It's important for me to hear that for a test. Thanks, greetings from Germany

Man…it would be great to just play these pedals through a simple tube amp. Like a Fender Deluxe. They WILL ALWAYS SOUND GOOD through a already distorted amp. But through a clean amp…you really hear what it can do or not. And A LOT of overdrives just kinda snuck in that setting unfortunately.

The TS 9 sounds more Marshall then all the rest. The SL sounds to fuzzy. Surprisingly.
@mattw.67263 жыл бұрын
TBH, I'm fairly simple when it comes to overdrives. Since I use a high-gain amp, I just want something to push the front end a bit and shape the tone. I've found that an Ibanez TS Mini takes care of that perfectly for me: gain at zero, all the level, and tone slightly above half. Also, FRIDGE
