I finally got the 183 in the mail a couple weeks back. As soon as I plugged it in I knew I made a great choice. It does exactly what I wanted to. Really great sounding pedal. Thank you for affirming my decision lol.

went down this rabbit hole about a year ago. landed on the BC183 myself. much more affordable but even in the one to one with the NKT in practical contexts (recording/gigging) I found the stability of the silicon to be much more worth it. as nice as the nkt can sound they change wildly in tone depending on environment, pick ups, amps, temperature, and type of battery as well as how much life the battery has. mike makes amazing pedals but the BC183 is definitely the go to for the cork sniffers out there and players alike.

I would guess the 175 given the level of gain but there’s a 50% chance I am wrong.

​@blee3621 If you include the Hitachi 2SB77, which is low gain like the Matsushita 2SB171, you could be down as low as 33%. Given the gain and the characteristic darkness of the Matsushitas I would guess it is built with 2SB175 transistors.

Yes to Better than Zero I grabbed one if those recently The CV was used in the Fuzz Phrase from Jam pedals as well as some older Analogman and original FF circuits I really like that transistor it seems to clean up very well I don't care for blown out spitting fuzz tones Enjoy

Even as the owner of an NKT275, the 2SB might be the pick of the bunch for me. I wonder about the bias setting on each one though - the 275 has the external knob but the rest are internal? That could be the tweak to get the gains/tones closer? Shout out to the 183 too, that might be the Silicon FF I need!

This was my thought too. The 275 has external sun dial bias knob, it'd be useful if you could perhaps revisit and see if you can tweak the bias and internal trim pots to bring them much more similar, especially on the red dot as that could account for the large difference

I don’t own a SunFace, but I do own a Pedal Pawn Fuzz (👍🏻), Dunlops, Fulltones (69), friend-built germanium fuzz, and others. It was cool to hear the different transistors (and circuits?). I’ll have to watch again. On first listen, the NKT was my favorite. The clean up on the others seemed spiky or a bit too sizzly.

You need to have the fuzz knobs turned up to full (especially the germanium units)....the silicon ones have more gain and with them you could roll back the fuzz a little ...But the germanium ones need to be at full fuzz

Why didn't you run them with the gain maxed out? Then use guitar volume to get the desired amount of cleanup. Edit: Oh, you wanted the cleanup on the Silicon transistors so less gain.

Amazing topic for a video. I love the NKT red dot but Pedal Pawn has made me re-think using silicon transistors since the transistors you guys use in your Fuzz abs Twang sound so good and are amazingly consistent. The Fuzz and the Twang together are my favorite as I love a good treble booster mixed with a glassy fuzz tone. Great to see you guys growing and putting out more content. Whenever anyone asked me what fuzz I should buy, I suggest yours. I love Analogman, they are made 40 min from my home and I’ve spent a lot of money buying them especially on the KOT and I loved all of them BUT you can buy some Pedal Pawn pedals and spend a lot less and get the same exact quality and tone. The Twang/Fuzz stack is one of the best in the game. Add the Vibe and you have the complete SRV/Hendrix tone stack minus the Octavia which I’m hoping will be coming out in the near future! ✌🏼 🎸
