Love learning from you, I can no longer do my own toe nails anymore after having 4 back surgeries I have a hard time bending over. My sister does my nails, but she just clips them down and polishes them. I just sent here this video so she can learn and do my nails the right way. As soon as I can financially afford to purchase what I need from you to maintain my nails I will definitely shop from your store. Thank you for everything you do for us, by showing what and how to do your nails correctly, blessings to you and your family always my friend and Happy Holidays 💖💖

I always learn something new watching your tutorials. Two questions for you: 1, Do you buff the nail plate if they have a lot of ridges? 2, What is the reason for applying two coats of base coat? I've always used just one. Thanks!
@meticulousmanicurist
@meticulousmanicurist 7 жыл бұрын
+Lezlie Motl applying to very thin coats of base coat makes the polish last so much longer than using one coat. Yes, I would buff the nail to blend the ridges. Not aggressively but lightly. Do not try to file them flush with the rest of the nail plate. The nail is higher in those places so it isn't thinning the nail. "If" they have a tendency to split vertically down the nail you should be careful because they will split easier after you have buffed them.

The Meticulous Manicurist Nail Tutorials - I'm in school to be a nail tech and you're right, they teach the basics and we had about 5 theory hours on nail disease/disorder and that's all. I was watching KZbin videos months before I started school and I tell my classmates about the helpful channels. Otherwise I wish I had an idea on how you could get your channel to us that doesn't involve you cold calling beauty schools. If I'm asked back to substitute (we've talked about me doing that) I'll definitely share your channel with students. They're crazy if in this day and age they aren't watching videos. I do have a question. You mentioned in this video about sterilizing your hands. Behind soap and water and hand santitizer, what do you use? I'm the only one comfortable enough that I'm don't wear gloves but if there is something I can do behind soap and water I would like to. Thanks!

@meticulousmanicurist
@meticulousmanicurist 7 жыл бұрын
Well, that's great! I was so worried about the sound of my voice when I started my channel! It's not weird, you just trust I know what I am talking about, and I do;) I always apply callous eliminator to the bottoms of feet so it can dissolve the skin while I work on the toenails. Then I rub the bottom of the feet with a towel which gets off a lot of the dead skin before I file the bottom of the feet with my foot file.

Hi Lori, hope I spelled that right. I'm a cosmetologist in Farmington hills but I actually do more nails than hair and I love it!! Just a question though, what can we do as manicurists or advise our guests to do about the dehydration spots? My guests only seem to get them on their toes but they sometimes get self conscious. I just reassure them it's nothing to be worried about but is it possible to treat them so they go away or do they just have to grow out with the nail plate? Also, what are the best treatments for it? Buffing oil into the nail plates, drinking more water etc? Thanks again and I look forward to all the knowledge I'll gain from your videos!!

I am diabetic, plus have difficulty reaching my own feet, so have to go to a podiatrist for toenail trims. What would be the most appropriate & tactful way to request rounded corners & smoothed edges? How should I speak to them about the sharp, dried cuticle at the sides of several nail plates?

I notice the nails were shaped rounder. I've been told that it is always best to cut straight across to avoid ingrown nails. Is this true always?
@meticulousmanicurist
@meticulousmanicurist 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Luna, no it is not true that the nails need to be cut straight across. Some people believe that this prevents ingrown toenails but people actually have to have several factors to be prone to ingrown toenails. I have a great video on an impacted toenail versus an ingrown toenail that has lots of information for you, kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3rFnpmFptmdg8k You also need to be aware of the shape people's toes. When toenails are cuts straight across and a toe curves into another toe, the edge of the nail can cut the toe next to it.

One other question (sorry about bombarding you but you just are so knowledgable) but fungus can grow in tainted bottles of polish, correct? As in, if a polish was used on somebody with possible yet unknown fungal infection it could grow and multiple in the polish bottle?. I don't have any guests that this is a problem for currently but there were two questionable times this happened to me and I got so worried and scared about the polishes being tainted so I threw out all the base coats, color polish and top coat I used on them. Can fungus survive in the harsh environment of polish or are there so many chemicals in the polish itself that it's not much of a concern? I use All OPI products if that maters! Thanks again so much!!!!
@meticulousmanicurist
@meticulousmanicurist 7 жыл бұрын
+Arianna P It can not grow in polish so don't worry. I have spoken to several scientists and even asked if they would test a bottle of my base coat. They said it would be a waste of money to test it. There is no way it can survive :)

I have been going to a salon for a pedicure and a couple of the older ladies that are probably not had school training and are not licensed have been removing live skin in between my big toe nail and the skin and it hurts when doing this. and sometimes I bleed. I told them to stop doing that and they make fun of me in their language. so that tells me by watching your videos they do not know what they're doing. What is your feedback on this?.
@meticulousmanicurist
@meticulousmanicurist Жыл бұрын
If you are certain they aren’t licensed you need to file a complaint with the state board of cosmetology in your state. No one is allowed to work on the public unless you have a manicurist license or a cosmetology license. I also don’t know why they would remove skin unless it was peeling, which might indicate you have athletes feet.

This isn't related to anything in your video, but what is the cause of dark knuckles? I noticed the knuckle on my big toe and sometimes one of the smaller ones, gets dark, almost like a bruise. It somewhat goes away with extra moisturizing, but for the most part it doesn't go away. What is causing that, and is there anything I can do to prevent and remove it?
@meticulousmanicurist
@meticulousmanicurist 7 жыл бұрын
When knuckles rub against things like your shoes on a regular basis you can get hyperpigmentation in that area the skin. You can lighten it by bleaching the skin. And when I say bleach I mean use lemon juice. When you get out of the shower, make sure you rub off all of the dead skin on top of the dark area really well. Then take a wedge of lemon and rub it into the skin. It will take several times before you see a difference but it does work.

My two big toenails are yellow but the others aren’t and they’re been like that for quite a while. What could be the cause of it ? I don’t smoke or any of the following that you mentioned. I do always have my toes painted but why just my two big toenails ? what can I do to get rid of it ?
@meticulousmanicurist
@meticulousmanicurist 6 жыл бұрын
It may just be from nail polish staining the nail, the other toenails grow and get replaced by new nail way faster than the big toe so the stain has time to set it. Take some cuticle oil and a buffer file or block and buff the top of your toenail and see if yellow comes off on the block. You could buff the color right out of it if it does :)

What causes the nail to turn yellow?
@meticulousmanicurist
@meticulousmanicurist 7 жыл бұрын
Toenails and fingernails are very porous they will absorb tints and dyes from products applied to the nail. The base coat that I use has a green tint to it. It keeps a polish on for months and months but it also causes a slight stain on the nail. There are also many other causes of yellowing toenails. Another harmless instance is frequent perspiration in tight shoes, the nail will absorb the color of the perspiration. Other conditions include psoriasis, diabetes, jaundice, paronychia, lymphedema, bronchiectasis, tuberculosis and sinusitis.

What about the "Han extra toenail"? How is that removed? I didn't realize I had one until I had my first pedicure. I went with a friend and did not really watch the technician work but once they were done I noticed how they had removed the excess dry, cracked and yucky skin that mimics an extra toenail and I hadn't felt a thing! What is that process like?

I absolutely love this video and the way you handle your clients feet. So gentle. My feet are super sensitive so I don't even like getting them done but I tuff it out. But now I have another problem that makes me not want to get them done. My left big toe had an ingrown. Well I didn't notice it till it got so bad it cut my toe and caused an infection not that the infection is gone from the cut it is still under my toenail and it's basically a fungus (you can cringe now) it's so activating because now the nail is so bad I can do anything with it. It's just basically falling apart. So my question for you is. Is there any way I can repair my nail without having to lose the hole nail?? I love painting my nails and doing nail art on myself but I can't even paint that nail now and it's driving my insane!!

Don't worry about the typos I make mistakes all the time and it's not in the middle of the night ha ha ;) we are all human. There is something you can do about it. There is a product called decolorized iodine, and you can find it on Amazon. It is 10 times stronger than tea tree oil which is a natural antibacterial agent. If you still have the infection, it might sting a little, but it will heal your problem and help your toenail grow out normally. First, cut the length of your toenail as short as you can. Keep something in the shower that you can clean underneath the toenail. You need to make sure there isn't any impacted material blocking the liquid from getting to the root of the problem. People will often apply topical treatments for the fungus to their toe but they don't remove the build up of material under the nail. If you keep the underside of the nail free of debris you will have better progress it won't be two steps forward one step back. Apply the decolorized iodine every morning and every night until the nail has reattached. Also apply a small amount of A and D ointment which is an antibacterial petroleum-based ointment, to keep the skin around your nail moisturized. Let me know if you have any other questions and keep me updated to how your toenail is growing out. Thanks for watching and please share my video so other people can find them have a great day ;)

I was told if the toe nail is yellow its toenail fungus .
@meticulousmanicurist
@meticulousmanicurist 7 жыл бұрын
+Kayla Luna Nails turn yellow for all kinds of reasons. If a toenail is separated from the nail bed AND yellow then you know it is fungus. Diabetics have very yellow toenails and so do smokers. But just leaving nail polish on the nails can stain them.

You let them know that the amount of callus they have will need to be cared for in more than one pedicure. Tell them you will do the best you can do with the amount of time you have scheduled to remove as much as you can but you need to see them again in 4 weeks so you can get their feet in a maintainable shape :)
