If the Yankees had Martinez on their team in the late 1990s they would of won maybe 7 World Series. Martinez is still the greatest pitcher I ever seen as a Yankees fan.

It's interesting indeed. 2002 - 2004 are the best chances for that to happen, he still would have been hurt in 2001 though. Would have been interesting to see how many games he could have won in 2000 with the Yankees, seriously that ERA.

@@iamhungey12345 Don't think so. The Expos wanted Mo and Pettite if i remember correctly.
@iamhungey123455 жыл бұрын
@@KTF0 Still it's something to think about, but yeah it may not be all that worthwhile I guess. Call me crazy but I might do it for Pettitte for Pedro but Mo? Yeah the potential for wasted pitching gems. I know it sounds crazy choose a closer over a starter and all. There always has to be a catch by the end of the day. I have to wonder thinking about this, in 2000 did the Angels really offered Jim Edmonds for Mendoza straight up or was there some others they were asking for? I know Mendoza was brought up in the discussion for Sosa months later but Edmonds straight up? It sounded too good to be true to be honest.
@KTF05 жыл бұрын
@@iamhungey12345 Funny part it was the Expos asking for Pettitte was when the Yanks said no. There was a third dude in the trade, not sure if it was Posada or Ricky Ledee. I remember reading it in the Daily News and hearing it in Mike and the Mad Dog back in the day. The Yanks, I believe, wanted Edmonds or a CF for a sec cuz they thought Bernie was going to sign with Arizona. Don't remember that clearly.
@iamhungey123455 жыл бұрын
@@KTF0 I recall the Yankees going for Albert Belle when it looked as if Bernie was going to leave. Really dodged a huge bullet there considering what happened to him after 2000, even then his numbers were dropping off before his hip dies on him. 1999 wouldn't be an issue but 2000 definitely would have killed them and that's without factoring his reputation in the club house of the teams he played for. With that said, regarding Pedro, still better than the time when the Indians turned down the offer where the Expos asked for Jaret Wright. I didn't know this until recently.

I was an Expo Fan. I remember hearing that the Expos traded Delino Deshields to the Dodgers for Pedro, and thinking NOOOO!!! I had really liked Deshields. I was then proven wrong. I still remember the almost perfect game he had. 9 innings, but it was tied 0-0. The expos scored a run in the top of 10th, they let him start the bottom of the 10th but unfortunately gave up a hit. They still won at least.

Pedro Martinez, David Cone, David Wells, Orlando Hernandez and Andy Pettitte would've been the 5th starter! What a starting rotation! You're essentially using Pedro Martinez to take Hideki's spot and then some lol. Never mind Atlanta's 3-headed monster, that would've been a 4 headed monster (considering Wells finished 3rd in Cy Young voting the year Pedro would've been traded to the Yankees if it had happened) and the scariest starting 5 in all of baseball that year.

Many players don't get drafted by their favourite team. As Pedro indicated though once you're a player you stop being a fan. That's your competition. You go out to be the other guys. Maybe if you still have an interest in the city, the management and the team that they have at the time you express some interest in being traded or signing with the club later as a free agent. David Wells was an example of that. He really wanted to be a Yankee. He played with several teams before he got the chance then they traded him away.
