They controlled his diet, his physical activity, everything. You see in flashbacks that this guy was chubby even as a toddler. Not once did they step in to help this kid manage his weight. One thing that's been found out in recent years is that obesity almost always starts with a poor diet in childhood. Your diet as a kid determines your metabolism as an adult. These adults *made* him fat. Poor guy did literally nothing wrong, and he gets shit on for the condition his caregivers left him with. And it's even worse, because, later in the series, when the other kids notice him trying to go on a diet to lose weight, they make fun of him *then* too, and tell him not to change anything, even though they are the ones who've been mocking his weight his entire life. That one scene where the short kid dogs on him for not finishing all his food makes me so damn mad, fr. And all of that is before we even talk about what a hoe Kokoro is. She for the streets.

After the switch he came crying to her asking why? Her response. "You need to lose some weight" then walked away. These kids are made in a lab and put in camps until they reach an age where each of them gets a partner of the opposite genre, they have to be compatible with to ride these robots called Franxx to defend the cincentrated cities from some underground beasts called Klaxosaurus. Those kids who can't be compatible are thrown out. The MC was one of them but because he was special, he got to keep living in the base while his partner girl got thrown out until they could find someone he was compatible to ride a Franxx with. The reason why the riders of Franxx are kids is because of their overwhelming emotional behavior and easy to control personality. Most of them won't make it to adulthood while the adults living in concentrated cities are sexless and live a relaxed life being protected by kids. Anyways, from the main cast, there was the fat boy and the cute girl who had a good compatibility. Of course, all kids were convinced that their lives were only for the purpose of fighting in the Franxx so compatibility was all that matters. Fat boy actually liked the girl and made her promise to be always with him. Since she doesn't really get a choice in the matter and again, for them all that matters is ride the damn robot, she accepts to be his partner (in the Franxx) always but she doesn't like him back. The other couple, one of a very obvious closeted lesbian girl and a stoic guy (before a cinammon roll too weak to fight) who hates the protagonists' guts cause he forgot their childhood promise of riding the Franxx together (granted, protagonist was brainwashed to forget about certain person, the female protagonist, and that memory was wiped out too). These two have terrible compatibility so the commander in charge who didn't want to consider throwing them out, suggested the team if they were willing to change partners for one mission. The cute girl immediately raised her hand and asked to be paired with the stoic guy, obviously breaking the heart of fat boy. In that mission, stoic guy's emotional crisis gets them both injured but the girl supports him to overcome whatever he was dealing with. The fat boy hits him for risking his partner in battle but stoic boy takes the hit and promises to protect his new partner from that on. More stuff happens and they get taken to a field that was grown like actual nature the planet no longer has where the kids have their sort of summer vacation arc. Cute girl finds a book about having babies (taboo in that society since children are lab made) and ilusionates with being a mother with a person she loves. She comments this to no-longer-stoic guy and he's confused all about it. The high commands find the book and make it clear to the kids that having babies is primitive, disgusting and not a necessity for them and there will be consequences if that ever brings up again. The girl is heartbroken because she can't have what she now wished for and gave her hope that she didn't really have to just ride the robot to live. Her partner cheers her up saying that he will make everything to make her happy and they do it. The rest of the group thinks they should follow that of something the kids could never do and make a wedding based on more lore from old civilization books. Fat boy decides himself to be the one who acts as the cleric. Oh yeah, and the girl and boy get brainwashed from their wishes to be a couple, unfortunately, the girl actually got pregnant and god it just gets a bit more heartbreaking for both main couple and this couple later on.
